We need to collectively admit that putting a touch screen and Wi-Fi into absolutely everything is a massive downgrade

I genuinely miss physical buttons.

I used to be able to get in my car, turn up the AC, and adjust the radio purely by muscle memory without ever taking my eyes off the road. Now, I have to navigate through three laggy sub-menus on a blinding, giant iPad just to turn down the fan speed. It feels incredibly counter-intuitive and honestly dangerous.

The same goes for home appliances. I don't need my fridge to send me a push notification. I don't need to download an app to start my washing machine. I definitely do not need my toaster to require a software update before I can make breakfast.

"Poor" technology was just better because it did exactly what it was supposed to do, immediately, every single time. It feels like we are innovating just for the sake of it, and it's making everyday life infinitely more annoying.

Cartirt Santos BVF verification

Just wanted to know if you guys thought this was a BVF Cartier Santos and your thoughts in general?

What is your go-to "harmless lie" that you tell purely to avoid a 5-minute conversation?

For me, it’s whenever someone asks if I’ve seen a specific, insanely popular movie or TV show (like The Office, Game of Thrones, or Breaking Bad).

If I haven't seen it, I have learned the hard way that saying "No" results in a 5-minute lecture of: "WHAT?! How have you not seen it?! You have to watch it! What kind of shows do you even watch then?!"

So now, I just smile and nod and say, "Oh yeah, I watched it a few years ago. So good." It instantly satisfies them, the conversation moves on naturally, and no one gets hurt.

Another classic is telling the haircut, "I'm just taking it easy and doing some jobs this weekend," when in reality, I might be going to a massive festival, simply because I don't have the social energy to explain my actual plans.

Is it just me or do you do anything to avoid a further conversation when passing someone you kind of know in public??

DJ41 Dial Dilemma: Blue vs. Mint Green vs. White for Warm Skin Tone? (Clean vs. ARF)

Hey guys,

Looking for some feedback on which dial color compliments my skin tone best, and which factory currently takes the crown for each. I've got a warmer, slight olive skin tone and I'm finalizing a 41mm Datejust build.

I'm looking at three specific options: a stock Clean Factory Blue dial, an ARF Mint Green dial, and an ARF White dial.

I've attached a couple of wrist shots for reference showing a blue dial setup and a green dial setup.
Which color profile do you think offers the best visually and contrast against a warmer wrist?

For those who have seen them in person, how do the ARF Mint and White dials compare to Clean's stock options?

Which factory actually makes the best version for each of these three colors?

Also, quick question on crystals:

For anyone who has swapped a stock Clean crystal for a Deep Sea crystal (DeepXtal) on a DJ41, how much of a difference does it make on these specific dials? Is the clarity upgrade worth the hassle to get rid of the stock reflection?

Let me know your thoughts. Cheers!

Is this Cartier Santos Large actually a BVF? Seller asking £150

Hey everyone,

I’m looking at picking up this pre-owned Cartier Santos Large from a local seller who is asking £150 for it. They are claiming it's a high-tier BVF (BV Factory) build, but I wanted to run it by the experts here before handing over any cash.

The watch has some clear daily wear and desk-diving scratches on the bezel and bracelet, which I don’t mind, but I’m questioning the actual factory tier.

A few specific things caught my eye:

  1. The Cabochon: The blue gem on the crown looks a bit more rounded and protruding than what I usually see on high-tier BVF batches.

  2. The Hands: They look fairly matte black in these photos. Do BVF hands usually look this dark, or should they have a more distinct heat-blued metallic shine?

  3. The Bracelet/Screws: Looking closely at the link screws, the finish seems a bit rough around the edges.

Based on these photos, does this look like a genuine BVF batch that’s just seen some heavy use, or is this a lower-tier budget rep (DHgate tier) being marked up? Is it worth the £150 asking price?

Appreciate any flaws or tells you guys can point out!

Picked up a pre-owned Clean 116520 (SA4130). Quoted £240 for a full service just for a noisy rotor—is this overkill?

Hey everyone,

I recently picked up a pre-owned Clean Factory Daytona 116520 (white dial) from a member-to-member sale. It’s got the SA4130 movement inside.

The watch was a daily wearer for over a year, so it has some usual desk diving scratches on the bracelet. However, the movement itself seems rock solid. It winds perfectly, all the chronograph functions snap back nicely, and it keeps time very well.

The only issue is that the rotor is pretty noisy when I move my wrist.

I reached out about getting it looked at to quiet it down, and I was quoted £240 for a full teardown and service of the 4130 movement.

My questions for the experts here:

  1. Is dropping £240 on a full service massive overkill if the watch is already running and keeping time perfectly fine?
  2. Can I just request a simple rotor silencing (applying HP1300 oil to the bearings) without doing a full £240 teardown, or do watchsmiths usually insist on doing the whole service once the case is open?

Also, if there are any UK-based watchmakers in this sub who can help out with a quick rotor silencing, please drop me a message!

Appreciate any advice!

Next Pickup Advice: BVF vs. GF Santos (Med or Large) OR skip both and go VSF Daytona Panda? Focus on longevity/tactile feel. Also wanting to know how to sauce mods and if there is a way I can just buy modded versions.

Im thinking about my next pickup, and I’m torn between a couple of very different directions. I'd love to get some input from anyone who has held these in hand, specifically regarding longevity, tactile feel, and out-of-the-box quality.

Right now, I'm weighing up two main options:

Option 1: Cartier Santos (BVF vs. GF V2)

I’m heavily leaning toward the Santos, but I’m stuck on the factory and sizing.

  • The Size Dilemma: I have larger wrists and bigger hands (usually prefer a bit more wrist presence). I know the sub loves the Medium 35mm for the classic proportions, but I'm worried it might look a bit delicate on a larger frame. Does the Large 40mm wear cleanly, or does the square shape make it look like a brick?
  • The Factory Battle: BVF vs. GF V2. I know BVF has the upper hand on bracelet quality and crystal clarity right now, but that floating 'R' gives me pause. On the other hand, GF nails the printing and the flat screws but I’ve heard mixed things about their crystal frosting.

Option 2: VSF Daytona 126500 Panda (A4131/4801)

The other side of my brain is telling me to just skip the square case entirely and grab the new VSF 126500 Panda.

  • The $500 price point for VSF is incredibly tempting, and I know their crystals are unparalleled out of the box.
  • I also have a black submariner so that plays into it
  • My main hesitation here is the "Youth Edition" movement (the 4801 mod). For those who own it, how does it actually feel to wind and wear? Is the unidirectional rotor noise a dealbreaker, or is the build quality high enough to overlook it?
