what finally changed my cold email results (law firms case)

sharing this because i wasted way too much time thinking the problem was something else.

i was running cold email outreach to law firms with a pretty simple offer try get them 5–10 qualified calls per month on a retainer. t first it was basically silence.i sent 1,900 emails through a 5-step sequence and got 1 actual reply (unsubscribe), which obviously made me think something was broken.

so i went down the usual rabbit hole:
multiple domains, warmed inboxes, low volume per inbox, cleaned lists, etc.

i also started double-checking everything with tools just to make sure I wasn’t missing obvious deliverability issues. everything came back “fine”, but results were still dead what actually changed things wasn’t setup at all it was tightening the targeting side way more than I thought was necessary. basically removing contacts that looked valid in databases but didn’t really fit the offer properly (wrong type of firm, outdated roles, etc.). nothing fancy, just more strict filtering.

after that:

  • still not crazy volume of replies, but at least it wasn’t total silence anymore
  • unsubscribe rate went down
  • and there was finally some actual signal coming in

biggest takeaway for me was that i overestimated deliverability issues and underestimated how much bad/loose data can kill everything even if it “looks fine”.

still refining it, but at least now it feels like a real system instead of just sending emails into a void

Caught in the middle of a group argument during our Sydney weekend trip lol

Flew into Sydney from Melbourne last Friday with four friends and honestly we spent half the time arguing about what to do. Two of them just wanted to walk around the Botanical Gardens and take photos of the Opera House all day, while the rest of us were losing our minds from boredom and wanted something with actual energy. Saturday morning we just did the historic walk around The Rocks and grabbed food at a pub, which was okay, but by Sunday we desperately needed to shake things up. We agreed to get out on the water but flat out refused to sit on one of those slow, overpriced sightseeing cruises that look like a retirement home outing. We started looking at the fast jet boats at Circular Quay instead, trying to choose between the two main operators down at the wharf. The red boats from Oz Jet are pretty popular but their ride felt a bit too short when we looked at the times. We ended up choosing Thunder Jet Boating because it just made more sense for our budget that day. Everyone was happy, but you will leave the docks absolutely drenched, so don't be stupid like us and bring a spare shirt.

The trip turned out fine after all, but my biggest takeaway is to just book everything online a day or two early because walk-in prices at the harbor are a total rip-off.

Putting together a small bedroom need some direction on furniture choices

So I've been slowly working on my bedroom setup after downsizing to a smaller apartment. The room is about 11x12 feet, and I'm going for something clean and simple neutral tones, maybe warm whites or light oak finishes. Nothing too heavy or bulky.

I did order a bed frame through Bedworks a few weeks back and I'm happy with it so far, so at least that piece is settled. Now I'm trying to figure out everything around it.

My main questions are around scale and layout. With a queen bed in a room this size, is a full dresser even realistic or does it make the space feel cramped? And for nightstands do matching ones look better in a small room, or is mixing styles okay if the finishes are close?

I'm working with a modest budget so I want to get the decisions right before buying anything else.

i dont even get excited for presale anymore, i just check stubhub right away

why would i stress, hope, stand in queues, if i know how it ends. i just open the resale site and see whats there. if the price isnt insane i buy if it is i skip this is not living. its bargaining with yourself

remember in 2018 i bought a festival ticket for 80 bucks. just opened the site, clicked buy, done. now that same ticket costs 300+ and you have to grab it in seconds this year i didnt even try. just accepted it

on some forum about tickets i stumbled on hardware for human verification. eye scanner, local storage. not for our scene obviously

but if stuff like this worked, id agree to anything. scanner, fingerprint, dna. just so bots dont buy everything in a second

until then i just watch from the sidelines. and sometimes buy overpriced tickets. and feel like an idiot

started foraging for skincare ingredients and my skin actually seems happier

been into skincare for years. bought all the expensive serums, creams, active ingredients. my skin was okay but never amazing. started getting into foraging just simple stuff at first. nettles, chamomile, calendula. I started making teas and infusions. and then I thought wait can I put this on my face?

turns out you can. I've been making simple infusions with foraged herbs and using them as toners or adding them to homemade moisturizers. and honestly my skin seems calmer less red I don't know if it's the herbs or just the fact that I'm using less stuff.

curious what foraged things people here use for their skin? I want to try more but I'm also scared of putting the wrong thing on my face lol.

Where to buy a phone in Cairns for my gf's birthday

Hey cairns crew, bit of a noob question here. My gf's birthday is in a couple weeks and her phone is dying, battery lasts maybe 3-4hrs max now and it's super slow. Wanna get her a nice new one as a surprise (thinking samsung or iphone, around the $900-1300 range). Trouble is if i rock into jb or a shop in Cairns she might hear about it or spot me, small town and all. Better to order online so it arrives secret and wrapped? which one has decent prices, fast shipping to Cairns and proper Aussie warranty, good experiences only please.

Or any local spots worth checking that do gift wrapping or quick pickup without the drama? Cheers legends, don't wanna mess up the surprise haha.

Bathroom restoration update plumbing and electrical issues hit at the same time

So I'm midway through a full bathroom restoration in NYC and it's been way more complicated than I expected.

First week, the contractor found the old drain pipes were cracked and partially blocked. Had to rip out the subfloor to replace them. Then right after that, we found the outlet near the vanity wasn't GFCI protected and the wiring behind the wall was outdated. Both had to be sorted before anything else could move forward.

I'm working with a local contractor and they caught these issues early, which saved a lot of headache later. Right now the new tile is going in and plumbing is done.

Two things I'm still figuring out: what's the best way to waterproof around a freestanding tub? And for ventilation, is a humiditysensing fan actually worth the extra cost or is it overkill?

My first 1,000 miles. Need a helmet that can handle anything

So I'm finally doing it. My first real long-distance ride and 1,000 miles over a months. It’s gonna be a mix of highways, backroads, mountains, maybe some coast. I've been planning this for months.

But my current helmet was a budget buy from a few years ago. Works fine for commuting, but I can already tell it's not built for this. Ventilation is mediocre, it gets loud above 60 mph, and I've never tested it in serious rain

What I am looking for is something capable of handling it all. Heat, humidity, torrential rain, prolonged hours spent riding

Have been doing research on this matter non-stop. 6D helmets seem to feature heavily and it looks like the suspension liner technology used is incredible in terms of impact resistance, while ventilation is top-notch. Expensive, but my brain is worth it

Also looking at Icon. They seem to have a solid reputation for real world performance, good airflow, comfortable for long hauls. But I'm not sure how they hold up in heavy rain

Honestly, I keep going back and forth

No point in spending a lot of money on an expensive-looking helmet only to regret later when I get uncomfortable riding for 300 miles in them

Any tips from other long-distance riders who would like to share their experience?

One more thing… do I need to buy a helmet communicator along with the helmet?

Be real with me, can a cinematic AI video actually go viral or do people scroll past once they notice it's AI?

I see these super dramatic AI clips where a photo turns into a whole movie scene. Looks cool. But be honest, when you're doomscrolling reels and you realize it's AI generated, do you stop or keep going? I'm testingan app right now with a $1 trial (125 tokens, no card for signup apparently?) and the results look... fine? But I'm scared topost and get roasted. Has anyone actually gone viral with this kind of thing or does the "AI look" kill engagement? Need real stories not marketing fluff.

anyone else fighting a losing battle against under-bed condensation?

man the learning curve with wood stove heating is brutal. our cabin gets incredibly warm while the fire is going, but the temperature drop at night creates so much moisture inside.

I made the absolute rookie mistake of bringing a standard memory foam mattress up here last fall. Those modern bed-in-a-box things are literally just giant plastic sponges. they trap all your body heat and ambient humidity, and by february I had to drag the whole thing outside because the bottom was starting to grow mildew. Totally disgusting and a huge waste of money

I eventually had to scrap the synthetic stuff and switch over to natural materials, ending up with a heavy mattress from home of wool just because natural fibers actually breathe and dont turn into a toxic mold farm in a damp unheated space. its been way better for the moisture issue

but im still super paranoid about airflow under the bed tbh. do you guys drill big holes in your plywood platforms or run small 12v fans underneath to keep things dry? I feel like im constantly fighting the laws of physics out here just trying to sleep.

Pest control tips for ants and spiders

Found a ton of ants marching through my kitchen last week (probably from the backyard crumbs/buildup) and then spotted some spiders in the basement corners. Tried spraying with store-bought stuff/vinegar mix but it only helped short-term. House is older (1970s build) so maybe gaps in foundation/doors letting them in.

Any tips on DIY prevention or when to call pros? What worked for you guys?
