Discord server admins: what are your biggest problems with verification and protection bots?

I started building a Discord verification and server-protection tool because I couldn’t find an existing solution that really fit what I needed.

I run the Discord server for our game, BadGoons, and the first version was built specifically for that community. We’ve been using it on our own server, and so far it has worked surprisingly well for us.

However, building a product around your own experience is risky. What works for my server may not solve the problems other communities actually have, so I’m trying to learn before developing it further.

One thing I noticed while researching existing bots was how many users dislike advertisements, especially in free plans. Because of that, I decided that GuildWard.com should not show ads, including on the free plan.

Privacy was another common complaint. I’ve put a lot of emphasis on data minimization, avoiding unnecessary tracking, and not building a shared cross-server identity database.

The current version focuses on member verification, access control, custom branding, manual review, activity history, and server-protection rules. Some larger features are still being developed, and I don’t want to prioritize them based only on my own assumptions.

For Discord server owners and moderators:

  • Which verification or security bot do you currently use?
  • What is the most frustrating part of it?
  • Are advertisements in free bots actually a major problem for you?
  • How important is privacy when choosing a Discord security bot?
  • Do legitimate users often get falsely flagged or stuck during verification?
  • What protection feature would genuinely make your job easier?
  • What would make you switch from your current solution?

I’m not looking for compliments or trying to claim that this is the best Discord security bot. Critical feedback, bad experiences, and missing features would be much more useful.

For transparency: I’m the developer of GuildWard.com, and it is currently being tested on our own BadGoons community. I’m happy to explain how it works, but the main purpose of this post is to understand what other server owners actually need.
