Kennedy 89 Frankfurt - great new Unbound option

Just a quick review. I stayed at Kennedy 89 for a one night/day layover in Frankfurt a couple weeks ago to break up my San Francisco to Botswana travels. I got it witha Cat 4 cert and I think the cast rate was about $300. It's a new (Dec 2025) Unbound Collection property. I was very impressed. They gave me an upgrade to an executive corner suite. Staff could not be nicer or more helpful; they were awesome. I was so jet lagged I missed Globalist breakfast, but it's a full breakfast in the restaurant which looks awesome. They also have a 'Globalist corner' in the restaurant/bar for a 5-7pm small bites and drinks reception for Globalist. I don't know Frankfurt well, so it's hard to say if it's a good location. Only took me about 20 minutes of walking through some pleasant neighborhoods to get to some the main sites, so it worked for me. Close to a light rail stop too. All in I highly recommend for nice new design and wonderful treatment of loyal folks.

Mileage earnings on Lufthansa ticket; extra 100%?

I expected 200% miles on this ticket because that is what the A fare class gets. The posting in my account shows I received 300% miles, but the two line items only add to 200%. My best guess is the ‘Premier bonus’ is extra I was not aware of, and the base mikes does not include the 100% extra for A fare class…but it slows up in the total🤷‍♂️. Not complaining obviously, just wondering what to expect in the future

Lufthansa First Class Terminal Frankfurt

checking off a bucket list item right now. I know this is the UA sub not LH, but my occasional flying LH all comes from my UA/*A loyalty so I think this a more likeminded audience. I put in the minimum 1108 EUR upgrade bid for my FRA-JNB flight. I was booked in business so not sure if the bid would have been more from E. I imagine it would. The price to buy was 8000 EUR. So far an A+ experience. Had a nice steak and sides, excellent Tempranillo and now some nice scotch. Looking forward to the Porsche (or BMW) ride to my 747-8 for the flight in a few hours. Looks like 8 seats with 2 FAs in the nose of the plane below the cockpit. Caviar to start the flight and then caviar on my eggs for the arrival breakfast. I would not pay 8000 EUR one way but for an 1100 upgrade this is totally worth it. I nabbed a FC ticket in 2017 for only 90k miles but we were connecting and just experienced the FC lounge in the main terminal, not this separate terminal.

Feedback on Machaba Safaris? specifically Deteema Springs in Hwange and Mana River Camp Mana Pools

I posted here earlier about a last minute solo safari trip in late June and got some great feedback on Zimbabwe. I went to a TA I've worked with before and got a good qoute for 12 nights at these two properties that align with my dates (single supplement waived, 1 night free). the Trip Advisor reviews on both are good. The info I can find online is good in terms of my priorities (guiding and location). I am ok in a tent camp and that these may not be fully luxe but are very comfortable and in good locations with excellent guiding and quiet areas. Looking for feedback from seasoned travellers. This wiil be my 7th safari destination; previously Zambia, Nambia, Tanzania, Botswana, Uganda, and Kenya. TIA!

Last minute late June early July safari options?

I have suddenly found myself with an opening in my schedule for 2.5 weeks late June/early July and would love to fill it with some amazing big game viewing. I know that is high season (or very wet) most places in Africa and it’s very difficult to plan in this little notice; I have always done my safaris in the fall. I reached out to contacts in Uganda and Kenya and they told me it wasn’t possible to put together a quality itinerary at this point. I checked out some package tours (not my thing but desperate times….) and there are a couple “premium” options but they involve game drives in the enclosed pop-op Land Cruisers. I don’t mind getting from place to place in those but I insist on open air land cruisers for the game drives. Also I am solo and l understand that comes with a supplement. Any suggestions for safari locations or agents that are good for last minute summer bookings? I’ve been to Zambia, Namibia, Botswana, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania. Would gladly return to any or add Zimbabwe or RSA, or more “off the beaten path” places to my experiences. Much TIA for ideas. Also appreciate frank feedback that this is not very feasible.

311 and clogged sewer drain line - good outcome

Posting this just for reference and PSA (so please be kind 😂) as I got some conflicting information online about who is responsible when the sewer line from a residential to to the city main is clogged. A lot of sources say it’s entirely the property owner’s responsibility (and to be honest I still think it might be, especially if repairs needed) but if it’s just clogged the city will come clear it. Video showing what I’m talking about. Our vent was overflowing when we took showers etc so I knew it was clogged somewhere before the main. I was going to call a plumber but decided to report it on the 311 app with a photo last Saturday morning. That afternoon a city truck showed up and they blasted/rootered it clear. I went out to thank the guy and said I was a bit surprised the city took care of it. He said it’s the city’s responsibility for clogs.
