Pixboom Spark - First Impressions

I've had the chance to Demo a Pixboom Spark for a shoot recently and I shot these clips seperate from that shoot as a test run for the camera.

I had never shot with a dedicated high speed camera prior to this.

I had heard horror stories about how complicated these cameras usually are.

The Spark seems to fix a lot of these inconveniences?

- Multiple base ISOs with no Dynamic Range penalty(?)
- No recording limit other than what the internal 2.5 SSD allows for.
- Choice of multiple codecs. (cinemaDNG, ProRes, etc)
- Open gate S35.
- Small form factor.
- Easy to navigate menu system.
- On camera screen.
- V mount directly on the camera body.

I shot these test clips above in FPS ranging from 500fps to 1000fps in 4k.

I used Cinema DNG as a codec. (Which I love)

Most of these were shot at iso 1250 or 1600.

Exciting times for High Speed camera work!

1 week with the GFX100RF

I own an X100VI and recently had the chance to demo a GFX100RF.

Here is my take on the camera:

- Not much bigger than the X100VI
- Just as lightweight
- I personally prefer the 28mm FOV FF equivalent over the 35mm equivalent on the X100VI
- Megapixels for DAYS
- Still shot everything in .JPEG Fine like I do on my X100VI
- Dynamic range and skintones seems to be an improvement from the X100VI.
- Having a dedicated dial to change aspec ratio is awesome.
- Worth the extra $$ compared to the X100VI? Debatable.

I'd still prefer to own one over the X100VI in most cases.

First overnighter in years!

Perfect overnighter from Ottawa to Lac Philippe in Gatineau Park (Canada).

Riding a heavier bike was more fun than I remembered. It definitely forces you to ride slower and enjoy your surroundings.

Having everything you need on your bike is also rewarding somehow.

Big Agnes Bikepacking Specific 2 person tents are.l quite small even for 2 shorter than average individuals. We slept... a few hours... I think?

I was invited to a friends wedding and convinced to shoot some pics for them (I am not a wedding photographer). I did enjoy it! Perhaps, not the right tool for the job but, a very versatile camera non the less!

Edit: I am a professional Cinematographer, so I know a thing or two about lighting/composition. But I don't shoot photos profesionally or shoot photos at all other than on vacation (hence why I own an x100vi)

I leave shutter & iso on AUTO most of the time... 😅
