Listening to talks

When attending larger conferences, there’s often talks that are technically in the same field or in an adjacent field to your research. How much effort do you guys put into attending those talks and actually listening? I find myself really struggling with both staying focused and just generally following when it’s not related to the topics or methods of my research.

Skrik Värnhem

Det skriks och låter en jävla massa vid Värnhem nu (runt 1 på natten). Jag kan inte riktigt avgöra om det bara är skoj och tjoanden. Nån som har bättre koll?

Hammering eyelets quietly (ish)

So I have one of those tools that you use to punch holes for and attach eyelets with, the kind where you use a hammer on the tool. I live on the second floor so I wanna be respectful to my neighbours. I usually either work on the floor or on the kitchen table. I have a yoga mat I was thinking could be used for some dampening of the sound.

Should I place it under the table or on top of it? Maybe on top and then with my cutting mat on top to give a bit of a stiffer working surface?

How to hang large mirror

So I have this quite heavy, framed, full-length mirror that I want to hang on my plaster walls. Drilling and using anchors is no problem, but just how do I attach the hanging mechanism (wire?) to the back? Or should I be using some kind of ledge to rest the mirror on? Thanks in advance!

Why shouldn’t black the take the rook?

Was analysing a game and trying some different options. In this situation (which didn’t occur in the real game), why shouldn’t black take the rook instead of the bishop? By taking rook he also avoids the trade on e4

Has there been an update or something? I could’ve sworn the daily free game review used to contain more commentary on why certain moves were good or bad. Noticed the change the last week or so.
