Reaction to toughbooks in public places

Anyone else get a cool reaction/someone coming up and talking to you about your toughbook?

I bring mine to the coffee shop and I always think people will think I am the police. But that's probably only because I know that police use them, haha.

Router on a stick configuration

Worked through a router on a stick configuration today with OpenWRT. Pretty intuitive, really.

I did have one small issue that I might not describe well at first because I am tired. But there is a bit of an oddity with the LuCI interface. I could only get one of the sub interfaces to work in my network set-up once it had an IPv4 address with a CIDR. If I had an address and the subnet mask both defined in the UI, the set-up did not work.

I realized when I was pointed at looking at the actual network configuration files. The sub interface for the other VLAN was working just fine.

Apprenticeship paths towards controls technician jobs

Hello, I am planning on starting a program that is supposed to give me a baseline knowledge of electrical and mechatronics in a year's time.

Then I plan on Seeking a mechatronics apprenticeship.

Is this is a typical path in the United States?

I have been searching for an apprenticeship since I decided to take this path earlier this summer, and I haven't had a lot of luck in my search.

I am wondering if apprenticeships are really mainly for internal candidates.

Thank you.

Plotting libraries for GTK4

What are the options for generating charts/graphs/data visualizations in GTK4? I am thinking of heading down the PlPlot route, but I wanted to see what other people do/have done.

Moe Down - Dixie Dregs - 1977

Sorry if this isn't pure bluegrass, but I thought stylistically this was awfully close to Bela Fleck and the Flecktones (it showed up on a jazz fusion mix from spotify, haha) And this is the year 1977.

I also understand John Hartford was at least moving in this direction, or opened the door for this (at least in my mind). And Sam Bush too.

But still, seemed remarkable!

Great day for smoking some pork butt!

Pork that was marinated in spicy brown mustard plus a rub of paprika, cumin, salt, black pepper, chopped onions and garlic.

6.5 lbs of meat in this little kamado that could!

Resources for learning GTK4 development in C

I'm newer to C so this is ambitious but I want the tactical reward of programming something and having the UI to accompany it.

I gained access to the Foundations of GTK Development by Andrew Krause on the Internet Archive. So I've been working through that but it was written for GTK2.0. There have been changes since then, so it's kind of a nice little challenge to help me go seek out the GTK4 approach for everything.

I then found this resource which seems helpful, but I haven't dug in yet so it's hard to say how robust it is yet. Though it seems promising:

https://github.com/ToshioCP/Gtk4-tutorial

Ultimately probably the best way to learn is to have concrete programming goals, but it's also nice to have some level of map outside of just the API documentation.

What resources did you all use to learn GTK?

inattentive adhd unmedicated

I think that must be an ADHD thing but mornings with inattentive ADHD seem really tough. It's not like there is anything drastically wrong but it's like my head isn't ticking at the right clock speed or something.

I was diagnosed as an adult and always questioned whether or not it was accurate, but I feel like this has got to be what the experience is about.

Any tips for getting your head moving and being able to pick a focus?

One thing I've tried recently is only listening to music from CDs in my car. Maybe not that important but I can see how having Spotify available in the morning can lead to impulsively and wanting to choose the exact right song for each moment. I think for me too music is such a strong interest that each song kinda has a specific meaning to me or I will start thinking about that particular artist or era of music. And how it all connects.

Found this great CD at half price books. Immediately had to order the second volume associated with this CD, which is apparently Bill Monroe and Doc Watson!

Hi Y'all,

I am newer to bluegrass. About a year in. I started picking up on a pattern that bands tend to either have a mandolin player or a fiddle player, but not both.

And I also know there are some big time bluegrass players that will switch between mandolin and fiddle in their set. i.e. John Hartford and Sam Bush.

I thought this all made sense, but then I heard this:

https://youtu.be/FMrBCJObQOk?si=1lf6JUxlbz-tu643

And to my understanding Bill Monroe and the Bluegrass Boys is part of the FOUNDATION of modern bluegrass.

What is going on here? Did I try to create a pattern too early and it didn't work out? Probably.

Please set me straight.

Starbursts in the rectangular prism

The starbursts that come in a rectangular prism shape (just bunch of starbursts in a wrapper) tend to taste much better!

They are much softer (but not gooey!)

Not sure folk punk is the right categorization, but this seems closer to that than just pure folk.

Hi All,

I saw this post when doing some research and I was wondering if you all think this is achievable by someone newer to biking.

I at least know I have the fitness to bike 15 miles in a day as I have done that throughout the day when biking to work.

I also just picked up a nicer bike compared to the one I had been riding.

Also to my understanding this direction has a decent amount of downhill?

https://www.reddit.com/r/gaptrail/comments/1fyazmf/cumberland_to_pittsburgh_in_2_days_advice_needed/

Any gauge on feasibility here would be great. If I can do this, that should let me get to where I'd like to be on bus and bike alone (assuming I can take my bike on the bus).

Thank you,
