Swapping the speakers in my 212 with 112

I have a 1993(ish) Peavey Classic 50 212. I am swapping what I think are the stock speakers as they don’t have a great low end response.

From what I can tell it has 2 8 Ohms in series. Due to money constraints I bought 1 16 Ohm speaker
(Eminence Swamp Thang).

My plan is to wire up the single 16 ohm in place of the 2 8 ohms in series.
From a physics standpoint, this makes sense to me. But how will this change the amplifiers behavior?

Anyone have any experience here?

Also will I have to discharge the caps if I’m using non conductive tools and not touching inside the chassis? Science tells me no, but my will to live tells me to ask anyway.

Thanks!

Is this a real Teisco?

Got this off marketplace for cheap today from a guy who didn’t really know or care about the guitar. He did say that he had owned it since its first purchase in the ‘60s.

As I’m getting into the restoration, I am starting to wonder if it’s a real Teisco.

  1. I cannot figure out which model this is. It looks like there was a sticker on the back with an ID number rubbed off before I was born.

  2. The neck seems genuine since I know they were big on the laminate.

  3. The pickup does not look like other spectrums that I see. Different font and layout.

  4. I can’t find any other Teiscos with the same tail scoop. Since it would have been sold as a beginner guitar, I would think that their other hard tails would have the same divot.

  5. Both knobs say “tone”. Which is pretty funny and I kind of like it.

Hoping someone with more exposure to these guitars has some insight or advice. At the end of the day, it is definitely from the late 60s early 70s and it’s a sweet guitar.

I am mostly curious about the pickup, because it seems a bit janky and I’m close to just tossing a different humbucker in there. But if it’s a real spectrum I want to hear it out first.

Thanks!
