COD Brainwashing has already destroyed this community

I'm starting to see the pattern here. I saw Ratatoskr's video and it really solidified my thesis.

What I see is the community is basically begging for predatory monetization. Things that are put into games to drive profit margins via micro-transactions. People have played predatory games for years they no longer have predatory micro-transactions and they are basically begging to have them back.

Things like heavy customization is usually what drives monetization. Now for games who want to indulge in that I don't fault as its a decision which can drive independent streams for revenue and thus developer & tester time into features.

But for this game they've committed to not do it... to not be COD

People don't realize that the otherside of customization is testing. Each new skin & add-on needs to be tested with everything else which blows out testing which OFC leads to bugs.

The biggest cry's I see are

  • Armour Boost Customization
  • Armour Colour Selection
  • Weapon Customization with Attachments/Mods

These are huge features in COD but also drive people to open their wallets to buy skill. What's wild to me is that there is a game with a good community that doesn't have COD level monetization and people are begging to have it back... I don't get it

Like not every game needs to be COD. I never played COD past COD4MW2 and I saw my buddy play the modern CODs and I didn't get the appeal

But what gets me even more is they aren't trying to make a COD game... its like people can't enjoy a game unless its COD... if they want COD so bad why don't they just go play COD?

Like as someone who is a fan of game design I'm very confused why people just can't let HD2 be it's own thing.

Like don't people understand that COD is a poster child of what has destroyed gaming?

Personally I think AH has done a great job at balancing the game design; it may not make sense as power levels of individual units are being rescaled as new enemies come out... but to me that makes sense because they basically have a fixed number of action figures and gotta figure out how to make them all feel powerful & balanced to produce the same level of (high) tension. So without constantly changing the weapons they need to change the enemies to make things still make sense

In Ratatoskr's video he says that MD2 has a COD problem. I totally agree... I think AH needs to just come out and say "We have no desire to be COD... helldivers will be helldivers"

Personally I think weapon customization we got was a distraction. AH clearly didn't want to offer mods that unbalance the weapon... thus we got really lack-luster customization that makes no one happy. I'm unhappy we wasted time we could be advancing the story... and everyone who wanted weapon customization is disappointed it isn't COD level customization.

I really wish people would stop asking for these features... AH isn't interested... and if they cave we'll just get something that'll make people complain.... I rather AH works on advancing story, fixing bugs and adding new units/content
