How to help students brainstorm ideas for fiction writing?

I'm teaching middle school ELA for the first time this year and part of our lesson tomorrow is coming up with ideas for their future fiction writing assignment. My plan is to do this with them in their interactive notebooks. I've tried looking up online ideas about this, but I'm not finding anything too helpful.

How do y'all do it with your students? I know this is going to be one of the hardest parts of the writing assignment and I'm totally unsure how to guide them on this first part. Any and all ideas are welcome.

What's the process for getting the ESL supplemental?

I'm already EC-6 certified, but I'm now looking into getting my ESL done. To my knowledge, it's just an extra test I take right? I don't need to be a part of any program to take it and can just register for it when I'm ready?

I already know I'll need to study and prepare for it, but I'm unsure of the other side of it.

A moment of appreciation for the end credits song in the movie!

I LOVED the end credits!!! I love the song, but them showing the comics like that was such a perfect full circle moment 🥺 It's been many years since I've seen a lot of them.

For those who didn't know the song before it played, it's With My Whole Heart by Sufjan Stevens. I'm a long time Sufjan fan, and two of his songs also played in season 3. I was wondering if they were going to put in another one, and then they did! And they chose such a good one, too.

Sufjan released With My Whole Heart in 2019 in celebration of pride month, and a portion of the proceeds of the song and the gay pride shirt he released at the same time went to queer charities. In a blog post that I can no longer find, but was able to find on this reddit comment, this was said about the song:

>“With My Whole Heart” is a completely new song that Sufjan wrote as a personal challenge to “write an upbeat and sincere love song without conflict, anxiety, or self-deprecation.”

A lot of his music is pretty sad, and this was shown in one of the Sufjan songs that were played in season 3. I think it was really beautiful to choose one of his most uplifting love songs as the ending of Heartstopper as a whole. It was the perfect song to close this chapter with.

How many bracelets are y'all making?

I've been having a lot of fun making bracelets for HL, and I'm quickly realizing that I may be making too many 😅 especially considering my show is still two months away and I still want to make more. I'm on a roll! I know it'll be fine no matter how many I bring, but I'm still curious what all y'all are doing, and what you did for previous shows!

For TIT I think I made about 25. I ran out towards the end of the night. I think I have around 40 for this tour right now, but like I said I'll probably end up with more because I'm having fun with it.

Thinking about a bracelet trading interaction I had during the last tour

During the last tour I made a whole bunch of bracelets to pass out. At one point during the evening I was in an elevator with my friend and a group of people. I asked them if they wanted any, they did so I passed some out, and then one of the people in the group said that they also made bracelets to bring, but that they forgot them at home 😭

I was just reminded of this interaction because I'm currently making bracelets for this current tour. So random stranger from the TIT Austin date, I really hope you're able to use those bracelets for this tour if you still have them!!!
