I (40s F) am a 2nd degree black belt in karate in a dojo that is super old school. That has its benefits and downfalls. True to traditions in many ways, but that also includes a lot of misogyny. I've been dealing with bullying and harassment from an instructor after I quit as his assistant for dragging me by my hair and verbally degrading me in front of the class. (This had nothing to do with the technique we were supposed to be doing, and I had done nothing to be punished for.) There was a pattern of verbal belittling leading up to this that I kept defending myself against prior.

I want to be able to train WITHOUT the possibility of dealing with this person for a bit. I want to round out my fighting skills and have always been interested in learning some Muay Thai. The owner of the dojo knows about this issue, and has done nothing that I know of. A higher ranking BB spoke to him on my behalf. Old instructor recently reached out and I had to block. WIBTAH if I trained somewhere else for a bit without formally receiving a blessing? Of course I'll still pay dues at the dojo.
