Getting the "You're in the UK" page when outside the UK.

Based in the UK, have seen the"you're in the UK" page when trying to use Venice, currently in a different EU country, haven't logged in, tried a different browser on the phone on a private window and the "Attention UK Users" still appears.

Sometimes claude makes you wonder whether it's more than just a token predicter - an example.

Am learning Polish, sonnet gave this reply:

"... — that was almost perfect. The only tiny thing: a comma before żeby is standard in Polish (Lecę do Polski*,** żeby odwiedzić...*) but that's polish, not Polish. Moving on!"

I know llms are fancy token predictors, however what black box algorithm made it decide to go out of it's way in replying to my query and following instructions, and make a joke?

The instructions are very dry for the purpose of language learning- nothing in there about making jokes or any personality traits, and this is a new account, so no previous chats about anything interesting except some Claude setup, linux questions, nothing about jokes, I haven't given it any information abut me, memories are turned off, the current conversation is short and nothing about humour.

I'm no llm expert at all, though finding it hard how I'd explain to someone why this machine predicted the next tokens in the sentence should be a joke, and in line with having just made a small joke, writing "Moving on!" - I imagine Basil Fawlty reading the line.

Odd... and really cool.

Anyone know the allowance limits for the 5.5 Pro model with the $100 plan?

Signed up around 3 days ago and hit the limit yesterday with the message:

"Temporarily limited. Contact support@openai.com for help".

I emailed and received an AI support bot whose conclusion was that I was using a VPN simultaneously with a local connection (which was true - was troubleshooting various LAN computer issues and one of the PCs is on a VPN), though I was also using the Pro model a lot (it's so good).

There was a banner (no longer showing) that appeared a couple of times at the bottom of the screen yesterday stating something like "You've hit the Pro limit, your use will reinstate on the 13th" ie 3 days later.

I tend to think this is a Pro use rather than VPN issue (which probably has it's own issues), and though I understand and accept that there must be limits with the pro model as it's so token intensive, it's a shame that:

  • There is no "counter" to inform you where you are with the Pro model allowance as there is with Codex, so if you can't decide how to choose which model for a particular use case and especially, if you can see you have a few Pro uses left until 2 days time, you can choose queries that really need it, rather than suddenly coming to a stop as you're stopped from using it for 3 days.

Also, would Pro-extended queries use more allowance than Pro-Standard queries (I assume so), and do longer thinking times and outputs use more allowance or is it based on query numbers?

Thanks a lot.
