First ever Danmei Haul! (question in desc)

well more of a mini-haul but so excited when i got this! i LOVE hauls so muchhhhhh
they actually came in different batches so i had to wait extra

haul list:
Sa Ye Vol. 1 (Special Edition)
Disabled Tyrant's Beloved Fish Vol. 1 & 2
Case File Compendium Vol. 1 & 2
Escape from the Library Vol. 4
Catch One's Eyes Vol. 1
The Whole World Is Waiting for Us to Break Up Vol. 2
Jing Feng Vol. 1
What is Truth? Vol. 1 (from last post)

i got everything new except disabled tyrant's beloved fish & bing an ben which is still in excellent condition

you do not know the urge of unwrapping them and keeping them wrapped at the same time 😭 like i want them to stay in shrink wrapping cuz it'll last longer and still be new but UGH I JUST WANNA UNBOX.

i also like how the freebies in danmei(or maybe any cnovel) come packed inside the book like it's very smart but i feel sometimes it affects the book's condition as well ⏰ god... the freebies is the best part of buying. like Jing Feng comes with 2 manhua pages??? and catch one's eye literally had an extra mini book for extra story 😭 is this how you get physical-special extras

side note: i got an extra profile of pingce X3 (def by mistake lol), lucky me...
also i think i got a signed copy of escape from the library?? i dont know if this is normal lol but it's quite cool.
also the japanese reseller of bing an ben was kind enough to wrap the cover in plastic... i'm keeping that... it came wrapped in another plastic but ofc i had to open that one lol

question: how are resellers selling for way cheaper? like each bing an ben volume costs 108rmb as stated on cover but i've seen both vols with goodies for like 60rmb on taobao?! same applies for other books too
also, excuse me if any of these are not danmei or any info is wrong cuz i've done the max research on my side... >_<

whole thing costed me ~200$ but i could've easily avoided that sadly. the english books + 2 vols of bing an ben was 66$ with ANOTHER 60$ for shipping since i got them japan... i know, my mistake, because i underestimated the shipping prices and thought it's the same as last year's 😭
the other chinese books were surprisingly cheap(~10$) and i mainly got them cuz they had a LOT of goodiess!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAA (i love freebies)

i did my calculations and ultimately decided that translations are always more costly, probably since the money has to be distributed to translator, author, both licensors (ch & en) so i'm just gonna stick with the chinese ones for now 😭
(i don't have a big budget as a highschooler)

anyways, since i'm not allowed to get/keep yaoi, i put everything in a little corner of my closet and hide it from humans. i would've easily expanded my collection long ago when i actually had the money but i can't order online without my package being inspected... but of course i'm desperate enough to sneak some. i also store my freebies in a giant file.

and i wish i could go to the store and buy but yaoi is illegal where i live LOL.

ty for reading my yaps lol :3

Doorzo minihaul + long time user review

hii, so i actually didn't know there's a whole subreddit for doorzo and just found out now lol.

i bought 5 books and some goodies that came with it a few days ago and thought i'd make a review since a lot has change.

as you can see in the pics that i've been shopping on doorzo for over a year now. i made my first purchase as a test to check if doorzo is reliable and i was genuinely surprised. there was so much extra packaging for protection which i haven't even bought. i was really happy with my order and excited to order more with doorzo!

so i made another huge purchase, this one was actually really big and the shipping cost around 300$ (super unexpected), which is also why i had to discard some items :( and since i couldn't afford it fully at the time, i has to separate my package so the shipping became 200$ and i think 50$. i used fedex to try it out for my smaller package and it was good cuz it delivered to my door but charged an extra 20$ upon receiving, so i didn't really prefer it again. my other order came tho and it was in a bigger box than i expected 😭 which is my fault lol.

my main problem when buying is that, when it comes to the post office, i have to pay customs and collection fee since i dont have a P.O. box registered (100$/yr). so i try to consolidate my orders when buying, to pay less collection fee.

fast forward to my recent order, i actually had a few more items in mind, like manga, but due to the inconveniences i saw, i sadly had to give them up.

the shipping fee. i don't know why this became a problem, because it was perfectly fine priced the last time i ordered but now it just doesn't make sense. my consolidated order items where 6000yen but shipping was 7500yen. my other package was 4200yen and shipping was 3800yen.

and also, post shipping. i really wish doorzo had a door delivery service since it would've been much easier for me to get.

i'm in high school so i can't really pay for so much more extras cuz i wasn't prepared :(

i do like their coupon services and it's really good, but most of them are for really big orders so i usually only use the proxy service fee 0yen.

so?

i feel like i yapped way too much lol.

would i recomend using doorzo to other people? absolutely.
will i continue using doorzo? of course, just maybe not as frequently as i would've.

final verdict: thank you so much doorzoo~~

extra:
I REALLY reccommend you try out the shipping calculator before buying because it is reallyyyy important. even if it is not accurate, it will at least give you an idea of how much the shipping would be. i also reccommend you use the AI weight guesser(i think that's the name), it's kinda inaccurate but still very helpful on getting a rough idea.
some tips: when using the above tools, please add at least another 10$ extra on shipping or 100g on weight! it's just safety measures.
make sure to use coupons when you can!! do not worry about coupons expiring since doorzo is generous enough to keep giving you more and more later on.

(mobile only) very important: POINTS. USE YOUR POINTS. since you're gonna be browsing on doorzo for a few days to find your stuff, make sure to sign in and get your points! and when waiting for warehouse arrival, sign in and collect your points!!! there's plently of ways to earn points. and if you start early, you can save more. of course, this would only save about a few hundred yen and like 10$ at max, but it's worth if you're desperate >_< LOL

a recent problem: side topic, but recently when i tried to counteroffer the items to purchase, there was only prepaid counteroffer available. i don't know if this is a mercari thing or a problem on doorzo's end. i really wish they bring back the regular one! because i wanna buy multiple items at once to use coupons.

summary:
pros: smooth buying service. packaged handled with care. app feature. smooth UI.
cons: high shipping fee. proxy service fee would add up on large orders if not using coupons.

My first danmei and i'm OBSESSED 😩

(Sorry for the bad photo quality, I took these on my iPod lol)

I just got What is the Truth? Vol. 1 by Xi Pi and oh boy

This is my first cnovel... I'm already obsessed!!!! 😭 I genuinely wasn't expecting it to be this pretty. There are so many full-color pages and illustrations, and the paper quality is exactly the kind I like too, so the whole book feels really nice.
The only sad part is that I can't actually read Chinese yet, so for now I'm just admiring it. (○` 3′○)
I couldn't find much info abt the book so i'm not even sure if this is danmei- if someone could tell me the synopsis lol, i'll consider extracting text and tl'ing it.

I also only paid 58 RMB, which honestly surprised me since I've seen a lot of imported Chinese books resold for double or triple the og price. It arrived brand new, still shrink-wrapped, and even came with the goodies, so I'm hoping it's an official copy. Since I'm new to buying Chinese novels, though, I can't help wondering if I just got lucky or if there's anything I should look out for. (question for those of you who also own this book)
Also, are Chinese novels usually this colorful, or is this one an exception? If they're normally like this, I think I might've found a new thing to collect!!

I actually got it thinking it was a one-shot type, not knowing there's so much more to the series >_<.

Direct Profit as a translator?

Hello, (still not sure if this is the right place to ask, sorry 😭)

So, a few days ago, i came across the ko-fi page of a popular translator who had even finished some novels already. I noticed they had shop listings so i went ahead and looked.

Apparently, They were selling offline copies of their translations where it was 1$ per chapter but in bulk. Usually, novels are ~100 chapters, so one of their books with 100 chapters would've cost 100 dollars. but some of their novels were VIP on jjwxc.

Just to clear up, they are posting their translations for free with copy protection and ads (thus why they have a separate offline version), but it's also like advance/early access.

And this made me think, as a translator, is this ok? Like, is it ethical?

I've never earned as a translator since i set up my own ad-free website but i've seen other ones on CG or Foxaholic earning from ad revenue and that's fine. But, selling your translations?

i do understand that the case could be different when the translators are buying the original chapters and then distributing.

No hate to that translator, but i'm just genuinely a bit concerned since i'm not so much of an expert. Hope i can understand from y'all's explanations.

(I'm not sure if they have permission or not from the original author, so let's assume that one doesn't for instance.)

Edit: Thx for reassuring me everyone,,, I was kinda pissed & genuinely shocked when i saw that 💀 and knew it definitely wasn't ok, but just wanted to make sure since it's a pretty popular translator and yknow what happens when you speak ill of popular ppl... I also found out they recently became a licensed translator too so i was even more shocked. As an author myself, i cannot imagine letting someone sell my modified works for a whopping 100 bucks when they could just mtl it for way cheaper or even free 😭🙏

Which red flag character would you still defend? 🤭

Honestly, I'm a pretty soft watcher/reader, so i haven't seen many dark stories but i'm broadening my range recently.

For this, I gotta say, Fan Xiao from To My Shore/FFB. He does start off as a total asshole at the start but his devotion and redemption arc at the end totally pays off 😩

>!(even better with the proposal scene at the beach ✋🥺)!<

Let me know what YOU think and I'd like to see more character I haven't heard of till now!
