Ipad 8 gen home button

Hi all,

I’m struggling to fix the home button on an iPad 8th gen.

I’ve replaced iPad screens a few times before without any major issues, but this home button has beaten me. It is not the original home button, and I now need to get another screen and home button.

I will have the home button bracket firmly attached, and the small silver riser/spacer inside the bracket still there. The problem is that the button either:

  • does not click properly,
  • slides around inside the opening,
  • or when pressed, it shifts/slides instead of staying seated.

Does this sound like a missing gasket/spacer/adhesive ring issue, a bracket alignment issue, or something that should have been transferred from the original screen?

Any advice or photos of how this should sit correctly would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Ipad 8th gen issues

Hi everyone,

I’m repairing an iPad 8th Gen. I know it's old but we are not rich and my daughter uses it for her trips to hospital (IBD)

The original screen/digitizer was smashed, so I replaced the digitizer and at first it seemed fine.

I then had to reopen it and redo the digitizer/Home button area because the Home button bracket/gasket didn’t seem right. After that, the iPad started getting ghost touches, which eventually locked the iPad out.

I replaced the digitizer again with a new one, but now the iPad says it is locked out and needs to be restored.

So far I have tried:

Apple Devices on Windows

Recovery mode restore/update

DFU mode restore, confirmed by black screen

3 different computers

Wi-Fi and Ethernet

2 different USB cables

Turning off NextDNS/router filtering

Both Update and Restore/Restore & Update

The errors I have seen include:

Error 9

Error 1109

Error 75 / 067E.004B

Then 1109 again during restore

I don’t need the data on the iPad, so I’m happy to fully wipe it. I just need to get it restored and working again.

At this point, does this sound like:

a bad replacement digitizer causing issues,

damaged Home button/digitizer flex,

charge port/USB communication issue,

battery/logic board connection issue,

or something else?

The iPad is currently still open/not sealed, so I can inspect or reseat if needed.

Any advice on what to check next would be appreciated.

Used 3u tools and fixed it first time

Arlec/Grid Connect EL450HA smart batten randomly turns off and won’t re-pair — driver failing?

I have an Arlec/Grid Connect EL450HA smart LED batten light that was originally in my bedroom and is now in the laundry.

It has had the same fault in both rooms, so I don’t think it is the room wiring.

Symptoms:

If I turn it on at the wall, sometimes it stays completely off.

If I turn it off at the wall, wait about 10 seconds, then turn it back on, it will come on.

It will stay on for a while, then flash once or twice, stay on briefly, flash again, then turn itself off.

After that, I usually have to turn the wall switch off again, wait about 10 seconds, then turn it back on.

It is offline in the Grid Connect app and I cannot get it to reliably re-pair.

The normal reset method of switching it off/on 3 times does not reliably make it enter pairing mode.

When it does turn on, it can randomly flash off/on.

I opened the cover only to look, and the driver label shows SELV DC output around 25–40V / 1000mA / max 40W, so I’m not planning to bypass anything or wire the LEDs directly.

Does this sound like the internal LED driver/smart controller is failing?

Is there any known manual reset for these EL450HA battens besides the 3x wall-switch reset, or is replacement basically the answer?

I’m in New Zealand, so I’m also interested if anyone has replaced one of these with a basic batten and what they used.

Thank you
