I can’t seem to work a better floor plan out
Existing Queenslander.
Needs: second bathroom.
Wants: that bathroom close to bedroom wing
Nice to have: second media room, and a plan that doesn’t change the existing roofline.
Aspect is east to the rear deck. Kitchen is in the best part of the house.
Kitchen is maybe 2.5m wide, “family room” 3m wide for scale.
Whilst the most obvious and cheapest would just be to renovate our WIR to a bathroom, I had hoped to place the second bathroom closer to the bedroom wing.
My thought was to remove the powder room and return it to being a hallway, close off the dining room to make a second media room, and put the bathroom on the deck with access from the hallway. Expand the small kitchen into the laundry and dining would move to the currently useless “family” room.
Once I put some blockout curtains on the rear doors to get an appreciation of how much natural light the bathroom would take from the house, I have lost some enthusiasm for the plan as it quite substantially darkens the house and reduces the view.
