Due to recentFlower Trick slander, here's a Meowscarada compilation

(I don't actually like using clips as "proof" that a moveset or Mon is good or bad since that's wildly inconsistent and not a good metric, but in my last two posts I got some comments that seemed to believe flower trick can't take fights/is worse than night slash/niche soo here.

Also had to delete the first version of the post to fix up the video)

Made a Tier Iist based on what I think of you based on the mon I see you pick in Draft

Don't take this too personally, honestly I just made this because I had to endure a 4 attacker game on my team so I felt like letting out both some negativity and positivity.

Also curious on what you like seeing and what you don't in your drafts.

Also some explanations, the tier is based on 3 things:

  1. If you're on my team, will you be useful?

  2. If you're on the enemy team, will you be a threat?

  3. If you're on my team, what's my perception of the character as a whole/the average player maining it?

  4. If you're on the enemy team, how fun is it to fight against?

So it's a combination of both perception on my team and seeing them on the opposing side I also took into account both movesets for the mons that had it, which tanked or improved the score of some.

Old Radio-Like Incomprehensible Human Voice In The Woods?

Hello, I wanted to begin by saying this is actually something that happened a few years ago now, I could never quite explain it and I did my best not to really look into it too much, at the time I had other things to worry about and frankly speaking I was never sure what to make of it. But with time passing I've told a few friends about this and none of them seemed to doubt me so I was recommended this subreddit along with r/ParanormalEncounters where I'll probably make another post in to gather opinions. Sorry about the length, but also trying to write what I remember in case my memory starts playing tricks on me.

Any explanation is welcome; I wouldn't say that it bothers me nowadays, but the whole experience comes to mind uninvited sometimes, even if it wasn't anything too odd.

-------

There used to be a "Village" ( I am not actually sure if that is the correct term for it) where I would spend the end of my summers. This village was in the mountains and pretty out of the way, but not isolated, in theory you could reach the closest town pretty quickly by car. I'd say in the summer there couldn't be more than maybe 40-80 people living there, mostly on the much older end.

I don't actually know much about the place itself, aside from the fact that it was bombed during World War 2 and way more populated before the 2000s, but either way I was really familiar.

One summer day, I was exceptionally bored as I was left alone at home. I lived pretty much at the very bottom of the village, which was effectively just gravel roads on constant slopes with houses left and right encircled by mountains and woods always on an incline. Unfortunately, the bottom of the village was actually the more "dead" part; the only bar and most of the people who still lived there who weren't past their 50s lived near the top.

I think that day I wasn't really in the mood to deal with climbing up there, especially since it was already in the afternoon... I am not sure where I got the idea, but I decided to explore just outside the village, where most of the farmers' fields were. I wasn't as familiar with that area because there wasn't much there. Some fields, an underpass and an abandoned soccer field that you had to go way too deep into the woods to get to.

I would go a little deeper that day, just to see if I could find anything cool there, so I got on the gravel road and went by myself. I remember I didn't even bring much because it was honestly supposed to be more of a walk, with the "exploring" part being an extra.

After a little while, I took a right turn on the gravel road which to my knowledge was mostly farmland, which was correct, for a bit. It was very peaceful and there was a stretch of road where the trees on each side spaced themselves out and let you see into the fields all around.

I don't remember how far it actually was, but I figure I couldn't have walked for more than 10 minutes, by this point there was no real farmland, tractors or signs of people, just the woods.

The details are kind of foggy of when it happened, but I remember being taken out of my thoughts when I heard some kind of voice just a little way out of the gravel road I was on, into the brush. So I, being the smart person that I am stepped off the path to check it out.

I know it might sound stupid and in hindsight, it was stupid. But for context, remember I had been to this village for my whole life and everyone knew each other, or at least everyone knew the name of your parents' so when I heard a voice my curiosity was higher than my concern.

After just a few steps, I vividly recall just... stopping, mid step. I am not sure if anyone has experienced it before, but before I could even tell why, suddenly I felt on-alert and like something was wrong. I could actually hear the voice more now but, I couldn't make sense of it.

To this day I kind of struggle with actually describing it and I don't think I've ever heard anything like it since. I'm also double checking messages I exchanged with a friend years back where I described it, just to make sure I don't make up something because of time passing.

"it was just off like it was coming from one of those old radios, with that weird filter, it also sounded like it wasn't at the same height as a person but closer to top tree level"

That's how I described it at the time and is close to how I would still describe it.

I could tell it was speech, but it was just wrong. It wasn't any language I had heard before, and it was like someone was playing it from a radio, not actually being spoken, at the same time it definitely wasn't some kind of looping audio, each 'word' was different from the previous one. What was even more confusing is that when I say 'wrong' I mean it seemed to not even have a structure. It sounded like someone was playing a very old recording of a church chant or something like that, but the tape had been messed with and hit by a car. The voice itself was metallic, not just the sound. It's hard to explain.

Whatever it was, it scared the hell out of me. I realised I couldn't hear anything except it. No sounds from other animals, people, or anything at all. Just this creepy chanting that made no sense, playing to my front a dozen feet away, but I couldn't see anything because it was away from the dirt path as well, covered by brush and trees.

I had this urge to be as quiet as possible and get the hell out of there. I wanted to run, but I was genuinely terrified. I've been in scary and sometimes life-threatening situations, but this felt like a different kind of panic, I couldn't control it whatsoever. I remember it vividly to this day and it has never happened before or since.

I backed away slowly, so quiet to the point of holding my breath while keeping my eyes on... bushes and trees in the way. I could still hear this voice going on.

I don't remember if eventually I got far enough away that I started running or if I did this weird back-stepping all the way back to the nearest house, but I got home fine. It bothered me for the rest of the day and especially the night. Usually I would have gone over to the top of the village after sunset since the bar was the spot where people would socialise, but that night I just stayed at home and locked myself in, I don't think I ever got out of whatever panic-mode I entered until I fell asleep.

----------

And that brings us to today. I've never gone back to that area, ever. I live in an entirely different country now and have never experienced anything like it since, every part of it I mean. Nothing I heard since has ever sounded like that voice in the woods, nor has anything invoked such a feeling of terror for no reason. I don't have a history of auditory hallucinations or issues with hearing, and from what I know that area is desert; no one ever really goes past the fields, to the point where there are no lights or really anything. That spot does get animals obviously, but that was definitely speech, just nonsensical.

Does anyone have any idea what that could have been, or have experienced something similar? I know there are plenty of stories of voices in the woods, but I wasn't able to find much about people hearing this kind of metallic/artificial chanty-like voice in the middle of nowhere.

Shaymin Character Concept | Dual Form Supporter that relies on its team for EXP

Some additional parts of the kit that didn't fit in due to the character limit:

While in Land Forme, Shaymin grants a defense boost equal to 10% of its own defense stat to nearby allies after using a move.

Shaymin-Sky is granted a 1% Special attack boost for each ally nearby. When afflicted by a strong hindrance, Shaymin-Sky increases its own tenacity based on the amount of currently held 'Gratitude' stacks

Shaymin-Sky is granted Hindrance resistance while it swoops in for the first part of Air Cutter

Tenacity = how fast a character recovers from being afflicted with a debuff

Once again, random moment of inspiration (also I really love Shaymin sky)

'Support' Mew is still very fun

Even if the XP share changes hurt, playing as a supportive oriented Mew still feels so satisfying when your teammates know what they're doing

u/bowedmaple — 14 days ago

Is there a difference between these two?

Hi hi, I've been eyeing this Mew plush for a while and wanted to get it, however I noticed a very similar looking plush is available at the actual poke center for less than half the price, so I was wondering if Meccha JP was just offering the same plush at a higher price or if I'm missing something

u/bowedmaple — 18 days ago

People seemed to like my Mew clip so I made a 3 min compilation

Grabbed some moments from recent games and put them together, though playing at the end of the season is always a pain

Can we talk about how uninteresting the defender and supporter releases have been?

Aside from the fact I am pretty sick of attacker / all rounder releases 24/7, it seems like the trend lately has been to make defenders and supporters extremely one dimensional or lacking in depth.

Articuno is self explanatory and really just hugs enemies until they freeze, Meganium ends up not too far away in playstyle as more of a spammer and at best a harasser with little to no depth.

I think this kind of design philosophy only exacerbates the problem of the playerbase being 80% attackers. There are few supports that really push for a unique playstyle with mechanical depth, so even the ones who enjoy playing the classes can get tired easily... And that's without going into the fact that the game seems fixated on making sure supporters and defenders are stereotypes in Mon choices too.

I know many are complaining about the starters and legendaries, but honestly more than that I am pretty sick of the emphasis put on attackers and all rounders, and the few releases outside those 2 classes being so restricted or basic. And honestly speaking, the leaks don't have me interested at all, I can already see all 3 being either attackers or all rounders with one at best maybe potentially being a supporter, but I'm not holding my breath.

Thank you, Feraligatr, for believing

Something something, it's not over until it's over. But yes it was satisfying to see the surrender vote get denied knowing your team knows you can still give them a shot at winning

I saw the delta and I understood the assignment, lati ults are so satisfying

Definitely a waste so close to 2:00 but in my defense your honor, the vibes were immaculate.

It always surprises me in a nice way just how much teamwork you can get even in SoloQ just by having your other Lati twin on the team

[Metagame] Spreadsheet for most popular moves by, Elemental Type, Damage Type, BP, STAB + trends (Top 240) (Follow up on the previous Spreadsheet)

This originally was going to be a short job, but turns out compiling the data and using Excel was a Nightmare, so it ended up taking 3 days. Unfortunately I am too stubborn for my own good, so here it is!

Few notes: For the Pixilate / Liquid voice / type changing abilities and moves like weather ball, I instead used the logic of "If this pokemon enters the field can it use this move as STAB without any assistance from others?

So for example, Sylveon enters the field with pixilate, instead of counting Hyper Voice as Normal I will count it as a Fairy move.

Same for Pelipper with Drizzle using weather ball, or Charizard Megaing into Y with Weather ball.

Meanwhile if weather ball is say on Mega Scovillain, I will not count it as STAB, because Scovillain needs another pokemon on the field to set up sun and turn weather ball into a fire type.

- Physical has two average values because Fake out ended up tilting the average quite a bit, plus by that point I had a headache.

- Most status moves are Normal moves

- Every single pokemon in the top 40 had protect in one of their top moves by usage.

- Average BP was done without taking into account the damage reduction for spread moves, with it then Physical may end up with a bigger edge, aside from being tanked by Rock Slide usage

-Aside from Bug, Fighting is the type that is most slotted in as Coverage without STAB (Same type attack bonus)

- BP of fire types was consistently higher than all others, including Dragon, despite it being overinflated by Draco Meteor

----------

Anyway I'm not going to touch sheets for a while, and I'm bad at math, but interested to see if you have any thoughts, I hope this is helpful to someone!

[Metagame] I made some charts showing the representation of each type in-game the top 40 stats

I'm actually pretty bad at math but I got curious and figured I could put some college sheets skills to use (to an extent) plus, I thought it could make for interesting discussions!

For some further explanations, the second chart isn't just showing the % in the top 40 of those mons, but how many mons of a specific type break into the top 40 in comparison to the total number of mons, so for example there are 21 normal types in the game, but only 3 are in the top 40, so its percentage of mons qualifying for the top 40 is 4.2% of all normal types

Some noteworthy observations of my own:

Fighting and electric along with ground and rock seem to be held up by 1-2 pokemon, Grass and normal have some of the higher variance in the sense that 3 are in the top 40, but after reaching top 60-80 there is a stark drop in usage, for psychic and grass they also seem to be more utility-oriented with Whimsicott who often doesn't bring grass STAB and Farigiraf for Psychic who tends to run 1 attacking move

Bug is also non-existent. Any thoughts and/or other things you spotted? Also, apologies in advance for the quality, again, I'm bad at math and I tend to hate sheets, but I wasn't sure how else to bring it up

u/bowedmaple — 2 months ago

They never expect the Magic Bounce (Little comp)

Definitely situational, but always fun to pull off on a switch-in or not, especially with the prevalence of Encore whimsicott and what-not
