Does your volunteer-run league pay umpires/referees?
Or do you expect them to be volunteers same as the board members and coaches?
If you pay officials, what is the rationale behind paying them but not paying coaches?

I’ve heard some leagues order uniforms before rosters are formed and hope that what they get will fit the players who end up on that team. No printing of names on jerseys so that’s not a concern.
Other leagues wait for the rosters to be formed so they can order the exact sizes that those players indicated during registration.
Which do you do and what do you like or not like about it?
What has worked best for you?
Our players end up too close to each other and that brings the defense (zone) closer together. We’re giving up 3-4 picks a game.
They generally follow their route shape pretty well but I don’t know they keep gravitating towards each other.
That challenge aside, they are doing better in a lot of ways and even one of the better players said he was proud of the team for battling against a very tough team today and we even scored two touchdowns and nearly had a couple more. It was great to see them rally behind each other and recognize their own progress.
Was it out of necessity for the league to keep running? You wanted to make a change? I want to hear your story.
I hear leagues say “it’s less competitive and more developmental” when explaining why they don’t hold a draft in the Fall. Instead, the board forms teams by friend requests, coach requests, and things like that. To me, developmental means focusing on fundamentals and making sure competition is evenly matched so kids can develop their skills. Their version seems to be more of an anything goes philosophy. Please explain?
And if they complete their volunteer hours, they get it back?
Wondering how common this practice is and how you think it impacts the league - pros and cons?
Where do you get the play sheets and wristbands from for your flag football team? First time coaching and my league does not provide them.
Instead of going somewhere else, why do they stay? Is it limited options? Quality of play? Culture? Cost? I’m wondering what is most valuable for retaining players. Thanks!
What are your favorite ways to raise funds? Some leagues do a bunch of things, others hardly any. I’m curious what seems to be most successful and worth the effort. Snack shack, hit-a-thon, bake sale, what else? For youth sports, but open to ideas from anywhere. Thanks!
Has one used and recommend a software or service that will do the practice and game scheduling for a 70 team little league organization. We currently do this by spending basically 48 hours straight using pen and paper and then transfer to our website. Every time the board member that does the scheduling leaves we lose that historical knowledge. Would love to either outsource this or find a software that once set up is much easier to maintain.
