Does "olfactory (re)training" (ie. sniffing strong essential oils, etc.) still help if you only suffer from loss of *taste*?

My sense of smell's been just fine/unaffected since my suspected case - it's only my tastebuds that are eradicated. I would primarily assume based on that alone that olfactory training would be pointless (as it intuitively & obviously seems) - but what are your thoughts? Would it still peripherally help with loss of taste/ageusia?

Supplements for repairing numbed tastebuds/damaged tastebud nerves?

I've already been on super omega 3 fish oil, CoQ10, Vitamins C + E + B12, ALA, NAC regularly long before my buds went out (early June). I added Zinc early this month after having it suggested for recovery (started with a leftover bottle w/ 30 MG tabs I had in my cupboard from Dollar Tree - replaced it with 50 MG ones from Walmart last week; due to everybody advising against DT supplements in general due to poor quality control) - and Vitamin A + Tumeric as more recent additions. I also did Niacin (the ones with flushes) on a few days this month - gonna try to do this regularly if it'll help by any chance.

Beyond that - I more recently tried swishing/drinking bits of distilling white vinegar, tried eating frank's hot buffalo sauce, taco bell diablo sauce packets, cholula hot sauce, swishing/gargling hot salt water; all to no avail.

Anything else - if nothing's budging so far? Anything that'll give a speedy/(as close to) instantaneous effect, if possible?

really wished that I had one of those negligent "forgets/barely acknowledges the existence of their own kid in their house" archetype of boomer parent - as opposed to the micromanaging, pearl clutching, devouring faux-prim-&-proper, duggar-stanning stepford fundie-lite one I had.

would much rather just be left to my own devices & stupid journies - with the occasional amusing lashout from their ends once coming back from work & unloading stresses - rather than being perpetually and embarrassingly double binded into chronic stagnancy & other baggages as a result of my upbringing.

Can probiotics kill sense of taste?

I started taking Acidophilus in late May; and noticed that my buds were eradicated in early June (sense of smell is just fine/unaffected) - I suspect COVID as a likely culprit; though I tested negative on one of those home test kits (which is still unreliable to go off of, considering all the high rates of false negatives and all.)

I've had people claim on a previous post that it's impossible-to-very rare/very unlikely for Acidophilus to cause loss of taste; though I guess I'll double check with you guys to know for certain. What are the chances here? You think it's worth perhaps going completely off of it towards the end of June, just to see what happens?

EDIT: would -classic- niacin (w/ the flush effect) be more effective at the exact same goal here, since isn't the biggest point behind both gum & nico pouches is that it helps stimulate your numbed out nerves to the point of brute force? or would this be totally different? i've already gone down the niacin flush route about a couple or so times, to no avail.

got ageusia without anosmia, tested negative on a COVID kit (might have slightly screwed up the procedure though) - so what's going on?

I gained ageusia (loss of taste, but my sense of smell is just fine) out of nowhere at the beginning of this month & it's still persisting.

I've already been on the most of the exact vitamins/supplements people claim can fix ageusia/deficiencies of such are associated with it (b12, vitamin E, C, CoQ10, ALA, and I think NAC was listed as well?) - the only one I haven't been on is zinc, which I finally got right back on like around/after this occurrence. But anyways - I upped the doses on the ones I've already been regularly taking just to further push things.

as for the COVID test kit - it's one of those 7 dollar ones from Walmart. I screwed it up a tiny bit in the fact that I slightly missed one of the 4 drops from the little tube thing (it didn't fully make it into the sample hole on the meter, much of it landed right beside it) - so it may render the result as unreliable + the instructions claimed that it is still recommended to take the test again 48+ hours later if negative; for precision's sake.

does anyone here know what is even up? is this likely COVID? or is it something else? and how do I fix it (aside with relying on time in hopes that my sense of taste returns?) it's driving me nuts tbh.

**I suspected that it was due to taking a probiotic in late May (acidophilus); but people on the probiotic sub claimed that it is impossible/unlikely.

too much vitamin E; how fucked am I?

**update: just took my daily psyllium husk dose an hour/about an hour after taking my vitamin E; Google AI claims that taking both at the same time will cancel absorption of vitamins - especially if not spaced out via 2 hours, maybe 1. Roughly how much of the E will this cancel out? How much of it will actually work out/remain absorbed?

I accidently took more vitamin e than intended today (1260 mg, as opposed to the max recommended 1000 - wanted to "megadose" it due to a health complication that propped up early this month - in hopes it'll do something about it) out of stupidity/miscalculation of softgel amounts. how bad is this?

Many years of unresolved insomnia + waking up ~3 AM with nightsweats, nothing seems to work. Is short tern antibiotic (supplement) usage worth a try?

It's been pushing a decade of sleep issues/accumulated sleeping debt - I'm always so restless at night. Just chronically feeling numb/empty yet always tossing and turning when I am trying to sleep. That, and I gained issues with nightsweats further down the line (2019-2020 or so) that are still ongoing.

One personal theory is that perhaps my body might've gotten infected with something during my absolute rock bottom depressive phase (self-neglect/major lack of self-maintenance) + homelessness of the aforementioned timeframe? And whatever it is - it still persists? And I've tried most every quintessential thing from under the sun so far.

Hence leaving me to the contemplation of giving an antibiotic supplement a shot. Ie. Oregano and the like. Though most everyone claimed that it's a little risque/can potentially fuck up my system even worse than before, and to an impermeable extent, possibly.

What's the verdict here? Has anyone here with similar issues ended up with meaningful remediation via antibiotics?

Considering taking Oregano (for antibiotic effects) - anything needed to know/precautions/final considerations?

I suppose I want to give it a shot - especially factoring in poor sleep for almost a decade + nightsweats from 2019-2020 or so-ongoing that haven't quite been fully resolved, perhaps my body icked out/got infected with something during my rock bottom lowest, poorly self maintained depressive rut + homelessness from the timeframe - all snowballing into an infection that still pervades my body to this day, being one theory of mine.

I've heard that Oregano can be strong (and it can be a double edged sword as a result) - so I've heard (paraphrasing) that it might be best taken for only a few days-a week just for a single time's cleanse, then weening completely off after that, as opposed to taking it for the long term? or something like that? Does that sound like the best/most proper way to consume Oregano? That, and I believe others claimed that it can cancel out/reverse everything else that's already kind of accumulated in your body (ie. other supplements that took weeks-months to finally kick into full gear and all. And I'm on a ton of ongoing stuff/vitamins as we speak.)

Is it worth giving it a shot? Just need some external verdicts/assessments.
