the crowded patch, and some leaves coming cured from individually spaced plants

the crowded patch behind the corn and sorghum is doing better than i thought it would. the major issue isn't so much space or light as it has been earwigs! i had to put out some sluggo plus, they have been chewing on bottom leaves a lot, working their way up.

I've fertilized that patch area really heavily so they aren't fighting too hard for nitrogen i don't think.

the individually, or more spaced out plants are starting to have full sized leaves come cured. I'm pulling a small bundle of big leaves yellowing every few days now.

I've topped a few of those already too. they're about 2 weeks ahead of the crowded patch. photos include one that's currently living next to some fennel, leaves color curing to finish, and some hanging to dry.

the last photo is the crowded patch, next to it the grassy growth is a similarly crowded sorghum patch.

the rustica that's in front of the house spaced out is getting big. no yellow leaves on that one yet though.

July 12 garden table sale

Sunday July 12, 1-8pm. at the corner of N lidgerwood and E crown.

will have summer planting starts- okra, squash, herbs, cukes, beans, and greens.

will have some propagated trees in tree pots you can baby through the summer and plant in the fall.

some potted plants to be outside all summer then go indoors for the winter.

also: strip lighting, irrigation items, grow bags, and other gardening or growing things both used and new.

I'll have things pretty cheap, since we got this Great Depression going on.

will be doing one more this year for fall crops, in late August. if there's things you'd like for then, let me know.

fane is dead and can't be ressed on ship, spoilers

spoilers within

. . .

i did nameless isle and all was well. we all got through it and nobody left. we got to the ship and everyone disbanded. everyone was alive. i talked to malady. i bought stuff from tarquin. then i had the love scene with loehse.

when i came back upstairs fane was dead dead. can't use a scroll on him. i can talk to his ghost which is just excited about being actually dead. i can't bring him back at all.

what happened? what the hell? there was no status on him or healing done to him or anything

he survived the Isle with us! a glitch maybe? what?!?

starts to replace garlic, peas and cabbage with!

emerald okra, bush beans, summer squash, nz spinach, orach, marjoram, and a few small "herb garden in a pot" setups.

I'll have a lot left over to sell if anyone needs any. i always start too many things, starting from seed is my favorite thing.

minor update on patch 2

getting tall, bigger leaves despite the crowding. last photo is of single plant with a bit more space, it's only a little further along than the patch. patch one (the best starts) are also only a little bigger despite more babying and spacing

starts to replace the garlic we're all about to pull

emerald okra, Roberts bush beans, climbing French bean, patty pans, yellow fast crooknecks. just popping, should be ready in a week or so

I'll probably sell some, whatever won't fit in my garlic bed.

some things are early this year

peppers flowering, tomatoes on the vine, crookneck squash with female flowers, scapes almost done. some things are so early!

my cabbage just started heading, which is late. what?!

bonus photo of a mock orange.

doing well, we had some good rain

I'm going to follow patch 2 this year, these are the ones that were less hearty starts. they have caught up completely at this point. took off some dirt leaves, there's a bit of mulch and grass clipping on them here as i was spreading it around.

this patch is next to the sorghum test patch (working on landrace for syrup/grain).

crumb and friend

crumb is a gnome my grandmother brought home in the early 60s

his friend is new to the house and i wish she was taller

patch two: the less strong plants all in this area

my best plants went into the better patch which has better soil and depth, and all the runts or feeble plants are in this patch together. if any do well here in the heat with little water, those will be the seeds i save the most of for next year

my eventual goal is a plant that needs no extra water or care, but will grow neglected at the edge of each mound or bed, while still producing big leaves.

i did fertilize once after they settled in with high N, and don't mind doing that once.

landrace improvements, here we go.

what would you like to buy in summer and fall? starts, rooted plants, and propagations.

I'm propagating a bunch of fig, grape, lilac, gooseberry, currant, basils, black cap raspberry, honeysuckle (native and non native), mock orange, bridal veil, prairie sage (local native variety), Russian sage, lavender, mulberry, and some cooking herbs.

i might do a sale later in summer with these and with fall crop starts like lettuces, brassicas, and such. I'll try to do it when it's time to plant in the baby trees and the starts are big enough to take the cold fall weather.

  1. what would you like to see or be interested in getting a hold of throughout summer into fall?

  2. what are you always looking for and not finding?

  3. what would you like to pick up as starts?

  4. what perennials can you never find for fall plantings?

it'll be affordable. we are all broke! I'm just covering costs. (yes I've got a nursery/plant sales license for this year and next, i got it together finally)

getting them in the ground

there might be a few nights in the low 40F range but we're pretty much past all hard frost here, so out they go. i gave the soil a little high N fertilizer, and watered them in.

some are in a mound bed and others in raised bed, and I've scattered a few throughout other spots in the garden for looks mainly.

this one is a white mammoth. i think i have 6 types planted in this year, but would have to check my notes to be sure.

Craigslist or??

I'm trying to sell a swamp cooler I've never used, it's too big for the place i was going to put it

i don't like using facebook but last time i tried to sell something on Craigslist it was just a lot of people wanting to meet to argue and try to offer less (i was selling a thing worth a grand and people were offering me 20 bucks, that level. i did sell it to a friend of a friend for like 700)

the swamp cooler hasn't even been unboxed i just need it gone. where should i post it? is there another site that's good locally? do i have to use facebook or some other app, really?

talk to me about arp rosemary

every year i kill them.

I've tried indoors, outdoors, protected outdoors. they die mid winter no matter what i do. i know they CAN grow here and people even keep rosemary as a houseplant kind of.

this year a friend sent me 4 little rooted babies in 4 inch pots. HELP ME NOT KILL THEM THIS TIME. one already looks ragged after only a few days in my place.

HELP.

I AM SO SICK OF HARDENING OFF.

I'm planting everything i think i can get away with, some things are sun burnt, it's awful.

only peppers and cucumbers are exempt from my fury.

(photo taken by my partner while i was threatening the plants)
