Bolinas - safe for surf? contamination?

Hi,

SF resident here - was planning to try surfing for the 1st time at bolinas tomorrow (Tue June 2) but I see some alert about increased chances of sneaker waves ending at 5am Tuesday. Can anyone with more experience and knowledge tell me if its a bad idea to go out tomorrow around 11am?

Also, i read there may be some contamination in the water as well out there? But I can't tell if this is current or from a few months ago?

Butt Joint 4x4

Hi all,

I bought a ground anchored slack line from Bijou Build that needs 4x4 posts for the span. I want a 10-12 foot span, but for transport I want to be able to use 2-3 shorter sections. About 4-5 feet each and then join them end to end. What can I use for the butt joints that is strong and stable enough, but also can be taken apart for portability?

From a quick search Simpson tie plates seem like they can work, but not sure they are intended to be removed and reinstalled?

Thanks for any advice. (see photo for example)

Investing Reserves

Hi, I'm the board treasurer of a small school (non-profit). We have some reserves we are looking to invest somewhere to receive good interest rate. Our bank - Wells Fargo - doesn't offer a high yield savings account, though they do offer CDs.

Any advice on where is easy to setup and manage?

I'm looking for specific and general feedback on award travel these days and going forward.

Generally does it seem like award travel is much less valuable than say 5-10 or even 3 years ago?

I had accumulated about 700k miles mostly on chase and used some on j class to India in 2024 at ard 90-100k per each way of redemption.

In general these were.02-.06 cents per mile redemption.

The specific situation now looking for award travel from California to South East Asia (more specifically sfo-kti or sai end of June) and I'm seeing economy flights for 75k-100k (using chase partners). Premium economy in the 170-200k range. And many of these aren't great itineraries. These redemptions are closer to .012-.015 or worse

I was able to find 1 premium ec seat with good itinerary for 110k not to my destination but to the general area (Singapore) and then I'll catch a short flight to sai.

But is it best to not expect to get to.02 cents or better anymore for the most part? Or maybe that's still out there in some cases and better to spend cash now and save the miles?

Thanks for any insight
