Sil Nim Tao Meaning and Translation?

Hi. I've never really understood the translation of Sil Num Tao. My understanding is that it translates roughly as little/small idea/notion/thought/impulse. But what does it _mean_?

I feel like it's a "raining cats and dogs" situation. To a non-English speaker, the words can be translated, but the _meaning_ doesn't quite come across.

The closest I've been able to come on my own is kind of, "don't overthink" or "know where you're going and let your body get you there", but I don't assume I'm right at all.

Also, is this a phrase like kung fu, which is used outside of martial arts? If so, how, and under what circumstances is it used?

I did try asking ChatGPT and it almost instantly devolved into a batshit delirium, kind of as I expected, but it was fun to watch it spin out. :)

Any native Contonese speakers here who can help me understand the broader meaning and context?

Sword Identification?

I purchased these swords through my sifu back in the early 2000s in New Jersey. I dont remember anything about where they came from. They're 800 grams each and just shy of 1.5". The handle appears to be solid, forged brass. The insides are flat to allow them to nest, the outsides are rounded.

Also, any tips for cleaning and restoring them? Thanks!

Where To Buy A Pole

Hi all. I'm getting back into Wing Chun and would like to purchase a proper pole. Proper meaning the correct length, weight, material, taper, etc. It's surprisingly difficult. Most are the wrong kind of wood or too light. Does anyone know of anyone who sells proper poles and ships them? The shipping seems to be the hardest part. Absent that, how about craftsmen in the Bay Area of California who can make them?

I know one can use anything for form practice, and I frequently practice with a curtain rod I have handy, but I'd like to treat myself to something nice and traditionally made.

Any suggestions are very appreciated, thanks in advance!

EDIT: Hi again. I appreciate all of the responses and suggestions. Just to clarify, I'm specifically looking for a high quality, well made, pole that I can be proud to have as a display piece as well as for training. Not a makeshift practice pole; I've had lots of those over the years.

Monitor Suggestions?

https://preview.redd.it/cpu5fttqr1ch1.jpg?width=4080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b673f3ab8ab8f51508cb869c4266e0348232c812

Hi all. I'm in the market for a new monitor. I'm looking for a 21:9 ultrawide OLED with real HDR at 35"-45". I purchased an LG 34 Inch UltraGear™ OLED WQHD 1440P 240Hz 0.03ms G-Sync Compatible 800R Curved Gaming Monitor - 34GS95QE-B, which seemed perfect, but as you can see in the picture, it wasn't. I also have a Windows work PC and the result was the same.

So, what do I get? I thought LG was a leading brand and, on paper, this monitor seemed perfect, but you can see the result. And since someone in the factory turned this on, thought it looked just fine, and queued it to be sent to a customer tells me LG should be avoided. It's been a long time since I needed a new monitor and I haven't kept up. Who actually makes competently designed monitors? Thanks, I look forward to your suggestions!

Giving Away My Equipment - Bay Area

Hi, all. I've dropped out of the hobby and am offering my equipment free to a good home. Pickup only, Oakland, CA. I have two companion radios, three repeaters, and a T-Deck. I'd rather them be used than moulder in my garage.

EDIT: I've had a few DMs already, so I guess I should post a complete list if the equipment so people can claim it. I'll update this post with that list sometime tomorrow. I'll have felt motivated to dig it all out of my garage by then :)

EDIT: In case anyone asks, I'm dropping out of mesh due to Discord. I don't get very good reception where I am and relied upon Discord to stay engaged. I already didn't like Discord, and the thought of a decentralized, open project using something radically opposite for it's communication bothered me, but I accepted it. When the age verification announcement happened, I cancelled my account. I'm never going back. Sadly, that also cut me off almost entirely from the mesh community, so I don't feel like maintaining and updating equipment I'm not getting much use out of. I understand why mesh uses Discord and why it's difficult to switch, but as long as Discord is the main hub, mesh isn't for me :(
