Dr Rival - Toronto.

I had a primary rhinoplasty with Dr Rival 5 years ago to correct a deviated septum, shave down a dorsal bump, and slightly lift the tip as it was drooping on one side due to the deviation. I was very adamant that I loved my front profile and did not want it changed.

The minute I got my cast off I knew something was wrong. My nose was sooo deprojected and flat looking. My nostrils were overly exposed because my tip was so shortened. My top lip was numb and immobile for 5 months and covered my teeth when I smiled. My dorsal hump was bigger than it was prior to surgery. My entire bridge is bumpy and irregular. I tried to convince myself this was all swelling but things did not improve. My nostrils appear extremely visible, wide, and retracted due to him thinning out my tip which I never asked for. My nose looks so flat and wide with an abnormally skinny tip.

The changes to my nose have caused me to be depressed for so long. I think about it constantly and it’s affected me so much that I feel like a shell of who I used to be. During my follow-ups he would brush off my concerns and say I was swollen or that my nose looked good. I feel I wasn’t vocal enough in regards to my unhappiness because I wanted to maintain a good relationship with him in case I decided to do a revision with him. I actually think Dr Rival is a somewhat nice person and I think he can deliver some great results, but only on extremely large noses that have a lot of cartilage to work with. He must do the same technique for every nose, and that doesn’t work on someone like me who didn’t have a massive nose. I decided not to pursue a revision because in eachfollow up he was just not seeing the issues I was seeing and I felt like it was very rushed. He didn’t ask to see my old photos to see what I was talking about. He also never even took before and after photos of me (except for table photos).

I have consulted other doctors who confirm that I have a pinched tip, overly exposed nostrils due to lack of support, a dorsal bump, and an underprojected nose. My lip also remains affected and does not move the same way when I talk.

I’m now seeking a revision but I am traumatized and have no idea who to trust. My biggest concern is that my front view looks entirely different when I was reassured that it would not look any different at all. Had I known this I would have never done this surgery. I know there are a lot of happy Rival patients out there, but after studying his work for so many years I can see that the happy patients are those who had large noses, non visible nostrils to begin with, and a lot of cartilage to work with and reduce. It is much easier to fix a really big nose than to fix a normal sized nose with aesthetic issues.

I should have listened to my gut and not gone through with this surgery, however I was young, dumb, and naive and only saw amazing IG before and afters and had no idea how serious this could be.

It’s extremely hard to find a revision doctor in the Toronto area so now I will be looking out of country.
I believe there should be more screening involved before pursuing any sort of facial surgery. I hope I can at least help one person by writing this.

For any surgeons reading this out there…..

For the love of god WHY do you all deproject noses so damn much?

Why is it so hard to do a revision and make a long lean nose?

Why do surgeons compromise the front view to have a nice side profile?

The first surgeon who consistently shows long term revisions to bring back long lean slender noses and restoring birth noses etc I will literally sell my left fuckin kidney. Seriously, the amount of people who want this would make them rich.

Rant over

Why don’t TikTok creators ever share who their surgeon is?

It’s so frustrating when I see a beautiful revision rhino result and the creator will ignore everyone who asks who the surgeon is. Like why? There’s so many people desperate to have their noses fixed. I’d really love to know who did Valeria Lipovetsky’s revision but she doesn’t answer anyone.

Revision Rhinoplasty

I have been researching for almost SIX years for a revision specialist that can do the following:

  1. Project and lengthen the nose
  2. Add SUBTLE softness and fullness to the tip to correct minor pinching
  3. Maintain a slender front profile. I don’t care if my side profile is too big. As long as the front is balanced and close to my original nose.

Every revision nose I see is wide at the base and overly grafted. I am truly so depressed for the past 6 years because of this. Every single day is a god damn struggle. All I asked for in my initial rhinoplasty was to have the bump on my nose reduced and he did so much more than I asked.

I am located in Canada but willing to travel.

Do all hoarders know they’re hoarders?

Genuine question. Do all hoarders know they’re hoarders? My in laws are hoarders but they don’t seem to care or even be embarrassed by it. They don’t throw anything out. Their house is a mess. Garbage everywhere, just random shit everywhere. It’s crazy. I have a 2 year old and I don’t bring him there and they make comments that they don’t see him. But I truly feel like it’s unsafe and I don’t want my son in that environment.

Are some people just not aware? They’ve never asked why we don’t come over. The odd time we’ve gone there they don’t seem phased that people are there with their house in that condition. It genuinely confuses me.
