Did I mess up?

My husband died in 2022 from Lewy body dementia and Covid after a year in a nursing home. I notified credit card companies and student loan servicer, but I never did the thing where I posted the notice to creditors in the newspaper. I am now trying to get my affairs in order, and I’m super worried about this. Is this a problem? Our house is paid in full and all I have, no savings or stocks or stuff like that. I am on North Carolina.

NC to Atlantic City, NJ

We’re considering a quick trip from Greensboro, NC to Atlantic for a concert. We won’t have a lot of time, but is there anything amazing we shouldn’t miss? Thanks!

August Atlantic City show

I’m so confused about these last three shows coming up, specifically the Atlantic City date, which is the one I could possibly attend. I know the tour is over, but surely these shows are similar? Maybe shorter? I would love to hear any insights!

Requested labs to check for hyperparathyroidism

I haven’t talked to the doctor yet, but these were just posted on the portal. What do you think?

Had my surgery on Wednesday

I had laser destruction of a 12 mm stone with stent placement on Wednesday. I had the worst experience of my life with stents 12 years ago, and almost didn’t go through with it because of it. I was truly terrified. The doctor said I should because I had air in my kidney.

I can’t believe how well I’m doing. The pain is very manageable, and I I haven’t had any bladder spasms. There does seem go be a fair amount of blood in my urine. The only negative is that the surgical center wrote my phone number down incorrectly, and the doctor didn’t talk to my daughter afterwards. I called yesterday, but no one has called back. I was afraid they placed the stent, and that I would have to have a second procedure to destroy the stone, but I think I’m okay because I got a MyChart notification of a pathology report. I’m not kidding when I tell you I prayed to God, the Universe, and the God of the Universe, and I’m not even sure if that’s a thing.

I hope for good health and healing for everyone

ABAWD work requirement - update - NC

Hi - just thought I’d post an update. I’m 63 and have been receiving benefits since February of 2025. I was going to lose my benefits at the end of May because of the work requirements. I called and left 4 separate messages for my case worker requesting assistance. They never called me back. Finally, I found the form online that a medical professional could sign off on verifying that a person was physically or mentally unable to meet the requirement. I asked my PCP to sign the form, and he declined. I asked my therapist, and she completed in right then, with no hesitation. I uploaded it, then called and left another message asking they confirm the receipt of the form. No call. I sent a (somewhat tersely worded) certified letter about the whole ordeal. Still no call. But today a received the letter stating my benefits are reinstated. I am so relieved!

Should I have surgery?

Hi - I am new here but unfortunately not new to kidney stones. I am a 63 year old female. I am a very well controlled type II diabetic.

I had several stones that I passed back in 2010. I didn’t know what kind they were. I had to have surgery with two rounds of stents in 2014. This was one of the most painful experiences of my life! I used to drink a lot of Coke, and my doctor told me this was terrible for kidney stones. I haven’t had a Coke since Christmas Eve of 2014. I know this is somewhat unusual suggestion.

I’ve been doing fine until February of this year when I started noticing some bubbles in my urine and a weird sort of “squelching” sound sometimes. Urine cultures in February, March and April showed E. Coli. The most recent was negative.

I’ve had a CT and cystoscopy. The report from the the CT says:

Adrenals/Urinary Tract: The adrenal glands unremarkable. Bilateral renal cysts and subcentimeter hypodense lesions which are too small to characterize. Multiple nonobstructing bilateral renal calculi measuring up to 12 mm in the lower pole of the right kidney. There is no hydronephrosis on either side. Air is noted in the right renal collecting system which may be related to recent instrumentation. An infectious process with gas-forming agent is not excluded. Correlation with history of recent instrumentation recommended. There is symmetric enhancement and excretion of contrast by both kidneys. The visualized ureters and urinary bladder appear unremarkable. Air within the urinary bladder also likely introduced by recent instrumentation.

IMPRESSION:

  1. Nonobstructing bilateral renal calculi measure up to 12 mm in the inferior pole of the right kidney. No hydronephrosis.
  2. Air within the urinary bladder and right renal collecting system likely related to recent instrumentation. Correlation with urinalysis recommended to evaluate for possibility of UTI with gas-forming agent.
  3. Sigmoid diverticulosis. No bowel obstruction. Normal appendix.

The doctor says I should have surgery to remove the stone. I would have a stent after for sure. He said I might have to have a stent placed first, and then the removal a week or two after the stent placement. I really do not want to do this. My last experience with stents was horrific. I feel fine. Should I go ahead with the surgery? Will it be worse if I put it off? Thanks so much!

Lady Bird deed vs. JTROS

I am in NC. I am getting conflicting information about Lady Bird deeds, and if they are recognized in North Carolina. I currently have JTWROS with my daughter (she has 1% and I have 99% ownership). I’m just not sure if this is the right plan. I am trying to protect the house from Medicaid asset recovery. Also, I will qualify for reduced property taxes next year, but I’m not sure if I will since I don’t own the house 100%. I would appreciate any insights. Thank you!

Internet benefit with SNAP

I thought if you receive SNAP benefits, you qualify for a free cell phone or reduced cost internet service. I live in NC and have Spectrum. They said they only had reduced internet during COVID, and that they are not required to provide any kind of discount. Can that be right?
