Baby resale items

I don’t know if it’s just my community, but the resale market for baby items is WILD!!

I have a 4 year old and thankfully I got a lot of hand-me downs and baby shower gifts that sustained us for the first year. I kept everything in pristine shape in hopes of using it for my second. We found out it was a girl and were RELIEVED we can reuse everything from our first. Then we go on to find out we’re actually having twins… incredible shocking.

So here I am, looking for a new stroller, one more of everything I already own, etc etc. I don’t want to spend too much so I go on FB marketplace and cannot believe my eyes. People are selling their used, faded, stained, ripped Uppababy strollers from 2018 for $600-$800 dollars. Always price is firm and not open to negotiations. I would be basically subsidizing the stroller that they used for 7 years with both their kids. Who is paying these amounts?

It’s similar with all the baby stuff. Used gliders going for $200-400, baby bouncers for $100.

I’m sick to my stomach, I don’t even know that I’d pay these prices for new baby gear. I felt like the first time around I was able to find reasonable second hand items and prices. It seems like so much has changed in 4 years.

One way friendship shift

I just need an outsider perspective on this situation.

Met a friend 5 years ago. We became super close. We used to go out, do activities together, hang out at each others houses. She was very sweet and thoughtful. She would help me out with my daughter and was really there for me when my mom passed.

I was always there for her too. She went through multiple terrible breakups and I always lend her my listening ear and company.

In the last year, she got engaged and the energy shifted. Everything started being about her. Her new family drama, her wedding planning, etc.

All of a sudden, the friendship went completely only one way. Every time I saw her it had to be under her circumstances (I.e. where we go, who we go with). She stopped asking me any personal questions, it’s like my life no longer mattered in our friendship. She knew I was going through some personal issues and never once asked me about it or checked in. Making plans with her became hard and I just stopped bothering.

One weird caveat is I’m a bridesmaid in her wedding but I feel so weird about it now that our friendship has shifted.

I just feel weird about this whole situation and my husband keeps telling me I need to let go of my expectations of her as a friend, but are those really high expectations to have? Someone who cares enough about you as a person to see how you’re doing? I don’t necessarily agree with him, so wanted to see what Reddit thought.

How do you avoid becoming jaded as you age?

I’ve been through a lot in life recently and am feeling myself becoming so jaded about life. Mainly resentment toward my family, becoming disengaged at work, caring less about friendships, and feeling like every business is out to rip you off.

I guess this becomes more normal as you age. So how do you stay hopefully and optimistic well into adulthood? I can see why people become grumpy and mean the older they get.
