Chess review needs work.

Apparently hxg4 to force mate in 2 was a mistake, because I should have "moved my pawn to force mate in 3." Huh?

Made a box for my daughter's high school graduation.

I have always called my daughter "Squid" because when she was born she had jaundice and had to be in a glowing bilirubin blanket for the first few days. The inlay is supposed to look like a squid. Anyway, she graduated this year and I made this box. I inly have hand tools, and I've never done inlay before. There are mistakes - but that's part of the charm?

The inner box is Sugar Maple with dovetails. The outer box is reclaimed Wormy Chestnut from an old barn with miters and splines made from Sugar Maple. The band is made from Curly Maple veneer and Bolivian Rosewood. The top is Bolivian Rosewood and Curly Maple veneer inlay. I finished it with three coats of Tung Oil finish and Paste Wax. (Yes, I know it's not 100% Tung Oil - but I also didn't have ten weeks for it to cure before her party.)

Picture 5 is the jig I made to cut the miters.

It's amazing how long it takes to build this stuff with just hand tools, but I'm pretty proud right now. I'm including some in progress photos as well - resawing that 8 quarter Maple block into all those planks was a workout!

Take take take game review is really helpful.

I just downloaded the Take Take Take app, and I really like the way they did the text in the game review. I'm sure it's all AI, but it's actually helpful for me to see what moves were made and why it was a good or bad move. This is way better than Chess.com's useless feedback like: "moving the Knight to e4 would have been better." or "That was the only move and you spotted it!" or a "miss" because a 34 move sequence would have left me a pawn up.

Amazing Egg Bite - Habanero, Thai Chili, Feta, & Lime.

I'm experimenting with different ideas for egg bites for my daughter's graduation party (it will be a brunch.) And one of the versions I made included Habanero, Thai Chili, Lime and feta cheese, and yeah... it is AMAZING.

If you haven't tried that in an egg bite, and you like spicy food, I HIGHLY recommend.

I mixed 12 eggs with 250g cottage cheese, and 3/4tsp salt with an immersion blender. Then added 50g of that base to a muffin tin. (I poured 50g of the base into each tin, and experimented with different fillings in each one.) In one tin, I added 35g feta, 1/4 of a habanero, and 1/2 of a thai chili pepper diced, and squirted the luice of a wedge of lime. Then baked at 350 for 40 minutes or so. Holy smokes - it was amazing.

I am convinced that almost one in three games is me playing against someone using an engine. It's totally ruined the matchmaking game for me. There is no way to check accuracy, and Duolingo is doing absolutely nothing to find and ban cheaters. There is no point in playing humans on Duolingo unless you want to lose 2 out of every 3 games. Half of the games you play against people in your ELO you should be losing or drawing, if you're good. The third game is against an engine and you have no chance. There's simply no point. Go to chess.com or lichess if you want to play against more honest people, and fewer engines.

Those are the only tools I own that I could use for this. The mallet I made from a branch of iron wood, the gauge is made from off cuts and a broken paddle bit. The plane is from the flea market, and the chisel is from Harbor Freight. If you have worked with Sugar Maple, you'll understand why I'm proud.
