Advice for when tradespeople are in your house

Hi all,

Something I finding incredibly challenging is having people in my house/ space - I like my routine and things being accessible as I find it calming to jump between things as I work from home the majority of time.

Admittedly, I am in the lucky position to be able to afford to have work completed on our recently purchased house (albeit at the expense of a hefty home owners loan after our roof collapsed earlier this year), so we have trades people in working on different aspects of the house.

I tend to isolate myself in one room with the cats (both indoors), however I really struggle with knowing what to do / say in these scenarios. I find myself pacing around the house, sweaty profusely and trying to figure out how to behave. I often am on the verge of a meltdown throughout the day, being pulled back and forth between work and facilitating things they might need access to. I'm sensitive to the sounds and social interactions primarily.

Does anybody have any advice when you have tradespeople in the house? We are very selective, they are nice people and generally, very respectful - I'm reticent to state 'Hi I'm CaffeineandHatred Mr. Plumber, nice to meet you, by the way, I'm AuDHD' - however any advice on self management would be grand.

Thanks again folks.

My neighbours live too many doors away to hear me tutting about their new swimming pool.

Furious.

I'd love a pool. But as I'm a responsible adult, I've held off buying one because of the hosepipe ban.

And they're too far away to hear me tutting.

My neighbours have started a bonfire, so now I get to feel and smell like I'm being cooked.

Sod off. It's 30 degrees. The other neighbours kids have been screaming since 7am.

I'm done now.

Attending university in 26/27 and receive extra time and/or exam arrangements? Request a copy of your JCQ8 form prior to school/college shutting for the Summer.

Hi everybody,

I work within disability services at a well known University, it is my job to meet students to put in place support during their time at University (such as reasonable adjustments/ exam arrangements) amongst other things. .

This is a small reminder that this information does not transfer over from school. Unless you contact us, we do not know whether you've had previous exam recommendations or support previously.

A lot of you would have received extra time and/or exam recommendations from school without receiving an official diagnosis (regardless of what the college/ school tells you, an exam recommendations assessment is not a diagnosis of something, but is often indicative of it).

Before your school/ college finishes for the Summer, be sure to request a copy of your JCQ8 or JCQ9 form outlining the assessments completed and exam recommendations granted. Most universities should accept this as supporting evidence for an exam recommendations claim.

All the best and good luck with Uni in September!

I ran my first ever 5km event today! C25K was such a useful tool and I owe a lot to the app and the support it offers.

For me, this was more than a 5k. 2.5 years ago, I was 35+st, drastically unwell due to my weight and couldn't even walk 100m without being in significant pain and out of breath.

Here I am, a few years later after losing 13.5st, I (slowly) completed the Southampton 5k!

Keep going with the plan, it works and it's great!
