California landlord/tenant advice needed — what are my rights?

Hello everyone. I’m dealing with a landlord situation and looking for advice or someone who can point me in the right direction for legal help.
I rent a room in a house in Temecula with three other occupants. We are all on leases. The landlord does not live on the property, but she keeps personal belongings in the garage.
The landlord has a habit of showing up without any written notice and entering the house with her family. She will come in, sit down, watch TV, do laundry and spend time in the common areas as if she lives here. This has happens often.
Recently, she brought a person into the house who was supposedly going to stay for one week in an empty room before the room was rented to someone else. That week came and went, and the person was still here after the new tenant moved in. He then began sleeping on the couch in the common area for another week.
Our lease specifically states NO GUESTS. We expressed that we were uncomfortable with the situation because someone was essentially living/sleeping in the common area and occupying the shared space.
Then there was another issue with my lease. I asked the landlord for a copy of my lease about a week before rent was due because I needed it for Square to access funds for my small business. I asked multiple times, and she eventually said she would give me a copy the day before rent was due. I kept explaining that a digital copy would be much faster, and it would take 1-3 business days to complete. but she didn’t respond.
Because I couldn’t access the funds I needed, I had to scramble to get the remaining rent together. Fortunately, I had a client who was able to give me some work. I let my landlord know that I would have the rent for her once I completed the job and received the remaining payment.
I finished the project around 1:30 AM on the 2nd. That morning , she was already texting me asking about rent and repeatedly asking what time she would receive it.
I had a doctor’s appointment that morning about an hour away. Once my client gave me the remaining payment. I pick up the payment and go straight to my appointment. After I went to the bank to deposit the rent money.
I come home after all this, my landlord was inside the house with her husband and mother, and she handed me an 3- Day notice as I was in the process of sending her the rent.
I’m really confused about what my rights are here.
Can a landlord who doesn’t live on the property repeatedly enter without notice?
Can she bring someone into the house to stay when our lease specifically says no guests?
And can she serve me an eviction notice over rent when I was actively trying to pay it and had communicated with her about when I would have it?
I’m in Temecula, California (Riverside County). I’m looking for actual tenant-law advice or recommendations for legitimate legal aid/resources—not just opinions.
If anyone knows where I can get help reviewing the eviction notice and my lease, I would really appreciate it.

Update just got a 30 day notice

Does anyone have any tips on where I can apply for jobs that will actually be seen?

Indeed has felt like a complete ghost town for me for over 6 months. 😭 I know I’m definitely not the only one struggling with the job market right now. I’ve seen people applying for positions they’re overqualified for and still not even getting a call back.
At this point, I was hoping maybe there’s a website, job board, local resource, or some other way of applying that actually has some traction and gets your application in front of a real person.
What has actually worked for you guys lately? I’m open to any suggestions because I’m getting pretty discouraged. I’m not even getting rejection emails at this point just ghosted.

I had an interview today

Had an interview today at The Corner Store Bakery in Temecula. I arrived 10 minutes early, waited **45 minutes**, only to be told management isn’t hiring. 🤦‍♀️
Like… I was invited for an interview because you were hiring?
Honestly, if another girl hadn’t also been turned away, I would’ve seriously wondered if it was pregnancy discrimination. Either way, pretty unprofessional and frustrating.

I could use some advice !

Note: ( this story begins early 2026)

I really need some honest perspective and advice right now.

Earlier this month, my mom gave me a 30-day notice to move out. I moved back in with her this past November because I was trying to get back on my feet. The past two years have been really hard—my fiancé has been dealing with health issues and only recently, around February, started feeling well enough to work again. I also just got a job in February after being unemployed since October. I’ve been actively trying to rebuild my life.

Now it’s April 1st, and I have 3 days left before I’m expected to leave—with about $1,500 to my name and nowhere lined up to go.

The situation that caused all of this feels… ridiculous, honestly.

My mom’s ex lives in the house and rents a room. There’s a shared coffee pot (technically his), and I was told not to use it anymore because I was supposedly leaving it dirty. For context, I’ve been a barista for 4 years—I know how to clean a coffee pot. I’ve actually been the one cleaning it regularly, though I’ll admit there may have been a couple of days I forgot after starting my new job.

A few days after being told not to use it, I noticed the coffee pot was dirty again. I pointed it out to my fiancé. He jokingly picked it up and fake-spit near it (not actually in it), making fun of the situation. Then he dumped the coffee back into the pot where the grounds were and stirred it around.

There’s a camera in the kitchen, but his back was to it—so you can’t actually see anything clearly.

Shortly after, my mom’s ex came storming in, screaming in my face that my fiancé spit in his coffee pot. He then threw the coffee pot on the ground as hard as he could and stormed off. This isn’t the first time he’s been aggressive toward me either.

The next day, he told my mom his version of the story. She watched the footage and fully sided with him, even though I was standing right there and know what actually happened. If my fiancé had actually spit in it, I would’ve owned that, replaced it, and apologized. That’s not the kind of person I am.

Now my mom barely speaks to me. My grandpa (the homeowner) served me the notice and told me to “work it out” with her—but she won’t even have a conversation with me.

I’ve spent the last month trying to explain that finding housing in California isn’t instant. Most places require 2–3 months of income, good credit, and savings. I’ve been working so hard to get back on track, and now I feel like I’m being thrown out over something so petty and blown out of proportion.

Am I crazy for thinking this situation is unfair? Am I in the wrong somehow?

I’m not here to be torn apart—I genuinely just need advice. I feel lost, hurt, and honestly scared about what happens in 3 days.

Update: I’ve come to realize that I’m being asked to move out the day before Easter. At this point, we’ve secured an Airbnb and may have found a room, so we are doing what we can to move forward.

I also feel the need to speak for myself. I’m aware that my mom has shared her perspective about me with others, and I would just encourage people to be mindful of what they hear and to understand there is more than one side to every story.

This situation is not new to me. Throughout my life, I’ve experienced patterns of being blamed, controlled, and spoken to in ways that have been difficult to process.

When I was 16, I was visiting my grandparents after my cat had kittens a few days prior. She scream at me over the phone to the point that I was crying uncontrollably in front of my grandmother.

When I was 18, I was blamed for a relationship of hers ending. There have also been moments where I felt disrespected in front of others. For example, when she met my current fiancé for the first time, she screamed in my face in front of him. There was also a time when I was a teenager that she told our entire family I was talking to an older boy, to punish me. M which was deeply embarrassing and hurtful.

I’m not sharing this to create conflict, but to provide context and to stand in my truth. Right now, my focus is on moving forward, creating stability, and surrounding myself with healthier environment and people that actually love and care about me and not someone that will lie to my face about how much they actually care.

Update #2 :

Found out I was pregnant two weeks before our month was up at the Airbnb. Luckily, we were fortunate enough to make enough money and find a room for rent. With both my fiancé and I hustling and working 14-hour days between the two of us while sharing a car, we were making it work.

I’m about six months along now, and my current job has cut my hours down to 8 hours a week to punish me for not making enough sales. They hired two more people and gave away the hours I needed for gas and rent. Mind you, I was already only getting about 20 hours before they decided they were going to try to push me out.

I’ve been applying to other jobs in my area, but I haven’t had much success. I’ve applied to practically every café job in my town, and I’ve only heard back from two for interviews.

Also, my fiancé was let go from his shop about two months ago for being sick. His boss knew he was sick, and it’s not a normal kind of sick, either. He has been getting large welts on his body, mostly on the back of his head. They swell up and eventually burst with pus, to the point where we’ve had to go to the hospital multiple times to have them lanced and get antibiotics. Just a little context on why his boss letting him go was so ridiculous.

So now, we aren’t making as much as we were. He found another shop, but it just doesn’t have the same foot traffic we need to survive like his other one did.

Still figuring things out last minute and living by the skin of my teeth, like always.
