Meet Jimmy: Proof That Love Changes Lives

Jimmy is one of the community cats I care for.

A few months ago, he was terrified of both people and the other cats. Whenever I fed this colony, he would wait off to the side until the other cats had finished eating. He always made sure I was no longer around before he finally approached the food.

But over the past month, Jimmy has transformed into a sweet, gentle boy who loves lounging on the grass and enjoying peaceful naps.

His journey is a reminder that with food, patience, time, and love, even the most fearful feral cat can learn to trust.

Not everyone appreciates community cats like Jimmy, but to us, every cat matters... and every cat is special!

If you're someone who loves and cares about cats, we’d love to have you join our Reddit community, r/StrayCatHeroes. Feel free to share your rescue stories, post photos of your beloved cats, or simply show us how adorable they are. We look forward to meeting you and your feline friends!

The Importance of TNR: Preventing Litters and Saving Lives

TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) is a humane way to help community cats. Cats are safely trapped, spayed or neutered, allowed to recover, and then returned to the area they call home.

TNR prevents unwanted litters, reduces fighting and roaming, and helps community cats live healthier lives. Many TNR cats are ear-tipped, a universal sign that they have already been sterilized.

Without TNR, more kittens are born outdoors, where many face hunger, illness, injury, abandonment, or early death. As the population grows, rescuers, shelters, and caregivers often struggle to keep up with the increasing number of cats in need.

For the cats I TNR, I also ask the veterinarian to ear-tip, administer antibiotics and an anti-rabies vaccine during their procedure. After surgery, I keep them in my care for 2–3 days while they recover, providing flea treatment, deworming, wound care, and vitamins. Once they are fully recovered, they are returned to the place where they were trapped.

Every cat deserves a chance at a healthier and safer life, and TNR is one of the most effective ways to make that possible.

Meet Mike, One of the Sweetest Community Cats in Our Neighborhood

Good day, everyone!

Mike is one of my favorite community cats. He used to be afraid of people, but after I fed him every day for quite some time, he gradually learned to trust me. I was able to have him neutered last year, and ever since then, he has become sweeter and friendlier each day. He is truly one of the gentlest and sweetest community cats in our area.

Last July, I noticed that Mike had lost his appetite. Whenever he tried to eat, he seemed to struggle and appeared to be in pain. Concerned for his well-being, I brought him in for a closer look.

When I checked his mouth, I found at least one tooth that clearly needed to be extracted. I took him to the veterinarian, where he underwent a dental cleaning (prophylaxis) and had a couple of problematic teeth removed.

Thankfully, Mike recovered within just a few days. Once he was feeling better, I returned him to his territory, which is less than a five-minute walk from my apartment.

Mike is living happily as a community cat. Sometimes, people assume that outdoor cats automatically have poor lives, but that is not always the case. Mike has lived outdoors his entire life, and as long as he remains healthy and safe, I do not want to take away the freedom and happiness he enjoys in his familiar environment.

I promise to continue watching over him, just as I do for all the other community cats in my care.

Thank you for taking the time to read Mike’s story.

Meet Elfy, the Cat Diagnosed with Neurological FIP

Hello everyone!

I found Elfy on May 7 in one of the areas where I regularly feed community cats. She was extremely hungry and was having trouble keeping her balance.

I immediately took her home because I was worried she might get hit by a car. She was struggling to walk and could barely run.

At first, I thought she was simply weak from hunger. However, after more than 24 hours, she was still having balance issues.

I was able to bring her to the vet on May 9. She was confined for a few days and was diagnosed with Neuro FIP. Her treatment would need to last at least 84 days.

For the first 60 days, I brought her to the vet every day for GS injections. Thankfully, she was later switched to GS oral capsules, which made things much easier since I only needed to mix the capsule contents into her food.

It has been over a month since Elfy completed her treatment, and I am happy to share that she is now a healthy, happy cat!

Once I have enough funds, she will be spayed, and my aunt's friend has already offered to adopt her.

I believe Elfy may have once had an owner who abandoned or dumped her in our area. I hope more people will understand that pets are not toys to be discarded when they become inconvenient. Pets are family, and they deserve love, care, and commitment for their entire lives.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Elfy's story. Have a wonderful day, everyone!

Meet Gregg: From a Dislocated Thigh Bone to a Happy Life

Hello everyone!

Gregg is one of the community cats I care for. One day, he disappeared for a few days. When I finally saw him again, he was limping badly and refused to eat.

He was clearly in pain and very frightened. Fortunately, it wasn't difficult to catch him because he could barely walk. I brought him to the vet, where he underwent a physical examination, blood tests, and X-rays. He was diagnosed with a dislocated thigh bone.

According to the vet, his injury may have been caused by being hit by a car or by falling from a significant height.

The vet recommended orthopedic surgery. It took me some time to raise the necessary funds because the procedure and the medications cost over $1,000, but thanks to the generosity of kind supporters, Gregg eventually received the surgery, and it was a success!

About a week after the operation, Gregg began to feel more comfortable and even started allowing me to pet him.

He also underwent 10 sessions of laser therapy to help with his recovery. In addition, he received medication for his right eye, which was not producing enough tears to stay properly lubricated. Once he had fully recovered, he was neutered as well.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find an adopter for Gregg, so I released him into the garage of my apartment, just like my other rescued cats. They are free to come and go whenever they want, while still having a safe place to stay and access to food.

Gregg's original colony is located just a few blocks from my apartment. At first, he would visit them from time to time, but eventually he returned to them permanently. I suspect he still stops by my apartment occasionally for a meal.

Today, Gregg is living happily with his colony and enjoying life as a healthy, happy and normal cat.

I hope more people will show kindness and compassion toward animals. No animal deserves to suffer from injuries caused by human carelessness.

Meet Bana, a cat who once suffered from a serious infection. Please click and scroll through the photos to see her incredible transformation.

Good day, everyone!

I’m happy to introduce Bana, a cat I found in my garage last July. I believe she was searching for shelter and food. I’m not sure where she came from or how she ended up at my apartment.

When I first found her, she was in poor condition, so I took her to the veterinarian. After receiving treatment and medication, she has made a great recovery and is now ready for adoption!

Bana is still a little shy around me and the other cats. Even when I leave her cage door open, she often chooses to stay inside. Sometimes I gently encourage her to come out, but she usually prefers to find a quiet hiding spot rather than play with the other cats. With time, patience, and a loving home, I believe she will continue to gain confidence.

Another Colony to Meet: The Corner House Cats

Hello everyone!

Finally, no rain today—it’s a beautiful, sunny day!

I call this colony the Corner House Cats because they stay near the corner house in our neighborhood. I know the homeowner, and he is kind enough to let me feed the cats in front of his house. He also has a few cats and dogs of his own and helps feed these little angels whenever he can.

I truly hope more people in our community will show kindness to community cats—whether by feeding them when possible or simply allowing me to feed infront of their houses.

I believe there are still three male cats in this colony who have not yet been neutered, but rest assured that all of the female cats have already been spayed.

Meet the Chapel Cats!

I am a solo animal rescuer based in Manila, Philippines. At the moment, I care for over 30 rescued cats and more than 40 community cats in our area.

These little angels are part of a colony of cats that live near our community chapel. I feed them in front of the chapel every day, except when there is a Mass being held. On those occasions, I simply feed them nearby instead.

Some people have asked me—and a few have even complained—about why I feed stray animals.

My answer is simple: if some people can turn a blind eye to homeless, hungry animals searching for food in garbage bins, I am sorry I cannot.

Being homeless is already difficult enough. Being homeless and hungry makes it even harder.

While I have never been homeless myself, there were times in my life when I did not have enough money to buy food. I know what it feels like to be hungry. Perhaps that is why I find it impossible to ignore someone—or an animal—that is suffering from hunger.

Rain or shine, I do my best to feed these cats every single day because they depend on me. If I do not feed them, who will?

I sincerely hope that more people will learn to care for homeless animals. I believe the world would be a much kinder place if we showed more compassion to those who cannot speak for themselves.

I am also proud to share that every cat in this colony has already been spayed or neutered. Some days, fewer cats show up for feeding, while on other days there are more. It usually depends on the weather and whether they were able to find food elsewhere, such as scraps left in the garbage.

Meet Chico, the Cat Who Can’t Resist Drinking from the Faucet! 🐾💧

Chico is one of the community cats in our area. Last year, I took him in to be neutered. He stayed in my apartment for a few days while he recovered, and once he was doing well, I released him back to the community. Since then, he has continued coming back to my apartment and now rarely leaves my garage.

Chico weighs approximately 14 lbs and is one of the gentlest cats around. He is incredibly laid-back, sleepy, and loves his peace and quiet. One of his favorite places to spend time is inside a cage, where he can be alone and avoid being distracted by the other cats in my garage. There are even days when he doesn't want to come out at all, or only steps out for a few minutes before heading right back inside. Unfortunately for Chico, some of the other cats enjoy disturbing him while he's peacefully sleeping—and he absolutely hates that! 😂

Please note that I will add more photos of Chico in the comment section.

I'd love to hear about your own cats or the community cats you care for. Feel free to share their stories and photos! I know there are many kind-hearted people around the world who help cats in different ways, whether through feeding, TNR, fostering, rescuing, or simply showing them kindness.

APPRECIATION | A big THANK YOU to everyone! I appreciate every upvote, boost, comment and donation sent for these little angels.

Hello everyone!

A kind member recently sent some in-kind donations, and I also received monetary donations totaling $63, which I used to purchase a new outdoor cat house.

It has been raining heavily over the past few weeks, and one of my existing outdoor cat houses was damaged. I needed to replace it to keep the dry food I leave outside my apartment sheltered from the rain and prevent it from getting soaked.

The new outdoor cat house cost $37, leaving $26 remaining. I will carry this balance forward to my next fundraiser. One of my rescued cats also needs a follow-up veterinary check-up, and I will make a separate post about that soon.

Thank you so much for your continued kindness, help, and support.

HELP NEEDED | Food and Litter Supplies for Over 30 Rescued Cats and More Than 40 Stray Cats - PH

Good day, everyone!

I am a solo animal rescuer based in Manila, Philippines. I currently care for over 70 rescued and stray cats. Whenever possible, I conduct Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts to help control the stray population humanely. I also go to nearby areas for feeding, TNR, and rescue when needed.

It has been quite some time since my last post. We have been experiencing severe weather lately, and I have also been facing some challenges. Despite everything, I continue to do my best to feed and care for the cats every single day. Unfortunately, I am now running low on both food and litter.

I am humbly knocking on your heart's door to help me in providing food and litter for these little angels. Rain or shine, they still need to eat and be cared for. Any amount you can send will be greatly appreciated.

Your donation will be used for:

  • 1 sack of dry food (20 kg) – $56
  • 14 cans of wet food ($1.37 per can) – $20
  • 40 pouches of kitten wet food ($0.73 per pouch) – $29
  • 6 packs of cat litter ($5 per pack) – $30

Total: $135

To donate:

Paypal: paypal.me/catsofmagdalena

Wise: wise.com/pay/me/catsofm

Gcash: 0925-705-5102 (W.J.A.)

For in-kind donations:

Please note that Amazon does not ship to the Philippines. If you would like to send supplies directly, you may visit petwarehouse.ph

They accept both local and international card payments. Kindly send me a message and I will provide the shipping address.

I started working onsite in July as an offshore call center agent for an American healthcare company. The transition has been challenging because all of my rescue work and daily errands now have to be done after I get home from work.

I previously worked from home, which allowed me to feed and clean up after the cats during my breaks. That gave me more time after work to feed stray animals, take rescues to the vet and handle emergencies. Working from home also saved me a couple of hours of commuting time, which meant I could get more rest and better manage my rescue efforts.

I am hopeful that I will be able to find a work-from-home opportunity again in the near future.

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. Thank you as well for your continued kindness, support, and generosity.

Kuruchi’s Rescue Story: From a Tiny Kitten Dragging Her Hind Legs on the Streets to a Safe Home

Kuruchi is one of my 30+ rescued cats. I found her on the street over a year ago, dragging her hind legs. She was only about one month old at the time.

According to the vet, her hind legs were underdeveloped. Surgery may be an option to correct the issue, but so far, she has adapted well to life as an indoor cat. She is now over a year old. ❤️

If you'd like to see more of Kuruchi when she was still a tiny kitten, you can check out these posts:

APPRECIATION | Rambo Update and Heartfelt Gratitude to This Amazing Community

Hello everyone!

This is Frequent-Towel-5762. Unfortunately, I lost access to my old account. I tried appealing several times, but it was unsuccessful. I’ve heard that similar situations have happened to other rescuers as well.

Thankfully, I was able to create this new account, earn enough karma, and get approved to post donation requests in this sub.

A big THANK YOU to r/rescuecats for the approval and continued support, with a special mention to u/maddestofcheeses.

I would also like to sincerely thank everyone who has helped and supported me since last year through my old account. Your kindness has made a tremendous difference in the lives of the cats I care for. Thanks to your generosity, more than 70 cats have been spayed and neutered, and countless others have received much needed medical care.

As for Rambo, he is slowly showing signs of improvement. His white blood cell count is no longer extremely high and is now only slightly elevated, although his platelet count is high.

The wound near his scrotum is healing well, but he is still dealing with a respiratory infection.

During his recent visit, the veterinarian collected swab samples for fungal and bacterial cultures. Since these tests are not available at Serbisyo Beterinaryo Animal Hospital, the samples were sent to an external laboratory. The results should be available within 1–2 weeks and will help determine which antibiotic will be most effective for him.

In the meantime, Rambo has been prescribed doxycycline and a supplement to help with his respiratory infection. I was able to purchase the medications, but unfortunately, I accidentally left them in a Grab vehicle. If I am unable to recover them, I will purchase replacements.

Despite everything, Rambo's appetite is good, which is very encouraging. I will continue caring for him and will bring him to all of his follow-up appointments. I will also continue posting updates on his progress.

Once again, thank you so much to r/rescuecats and to everyone who has helped Rambo and supported my rescue efforts!

Update | Rambo's Recovery Journey Continues

Good day, everyone!

This is Frequent-Towel-5762. Unfortunately, I got locked out and I still do not know the reason why. As a result, I can no longer send or receive messages, and I am unable to post in any subreddit, including non-animal-related communities. I have been submitting appeals for almost a week now.

At the moment, I am working on this new account, trying to earn karma and eventually get verified and approved for donations in communities including this sub.

I already sent a message to the mods if I need approval to post to raise funds.

Right now, I do not know what the future holds. Sooner or later, I may run out of food and supplies for both my rescued cats and the stray cats I feed daily. At any moment, another cat may require urgent medical care, and I am afraid I may not have the funds to help.

Update on Rambo

On August 16, I visited Rambo at Serbisyo Animal Hospital. According to the veterinarian, he still needed a few more days of confinement before he could come home. Unfortunately, due to financial limitations, I had to request his discharge the following day.

Thankfully, Rambo is eating well and seems to be doing okay. I will continue monitoring him closely over the next several days. I sincerely hope he will not need to be hospitalized again, but I am planning to bring him back to the vet for a follow-up checkup as soon as possible.
