She is daughter of Don Carlos Smith and Agnes Moulton Coolbrith and was born in Nauvoo. After Don Carlos died in 1841, Joseph Smith took Agnes as his sixth maybe seventh wife.

Anges lost her faith, and fearing for her life escaped Nauvoo with her daughters. Agnes married a man in St. Louis and the family ended up California 1851.

She was a big deal in literary circles. Wrote a lot for Overland Express, knew lots of famous authors like Mark Twain and was Poet Laureate of California.
