this song is called I Need to Radically Change My Life in the Next 24 Hours Or I'm Ending It All. in 2019 i had a manic episode where i changed my name, my gender, my hair, and asked out my same-gender best friend of four years all at the same time. i finally wrote about the experience in song form

my riot grrrl band, Cat Crash, is going on tour! i booked this entire tour entirely by myself, we are a DIY band without a label or management. i book, promote, and manage everything myself. ticket sales have been horrendously slow so if you can buy a ticket in advance, please do!
on August 29th, my band is celebrating our 3 year anniversary of our first ever concert. we are hosting Riot Grrrl's Not Dead Fest, a 7 band festival with bands from NYC/NJ/MA/CT to represent where we're all from. every band is femme-fronted and queer!
we are donating 1/2 of ticket sales to Trans Lifeline and other LGBTQ youth organizations across Connecticut! in Connecticut, hospitals have just agreed to stop providing gender-affirming care to minors. we feel it is especially important to support and uplift trans youth during this time.

it's not punk to be transphobic. i'll be the first to say that "punk" being = to "morally good" is laughable. in my view punk is counterculture, and there is nothing more "in with the culture" right now than transphobia. transphobia is more mainstream than ever with trans people getting legislated out of existence, historians are calling it an "anti-transgender genocide." so when i see people who call themselves punk and frequent "punk" spaces like r/punk being openly transphobic or covertly transphobic by downvoting and hating on every band posted here with trans members, it makes me sad but also makes me wonder about the cognitive dissonance involved with claiming to be counterculture while also working so closely with the machine you're doing its job for it.
so anyway, i'm going to list some punk bands that you've probably never heard of (unless you're involved in their local scene) that have trans members, make trans rights a big focus in their music, and/or are trans fronted!
- Eevie Echoes & the Locations
NYC-based, majority-trans members and black-femme fronted, makes queercore music honoring queer history and their current oppression, check out "Dead Elders" and "I JUST WANNA PEE"
- Jack Flowers & the Petaltones
NJ-based, synth-pop/electronic punk, transfemme fronted with an album called "girl clothes" about transitioning, check out "slur" and "the internet"
- Bad Static
NYC-based, riot grrrl, makes intersectional riot grrrl music that is determined to improve upon the mistakes of riot grrrl in the past, guitar player is transfemme and dating the lead singer, check out "Sapphic Lipstain" and "Anatomy Autonomy"
- Sex Van Floor Plan
State College PA based, all transmasculine riot grrrl, just released their new self-titled EP, check out "afab" and "pay2play"
- Pinkshift
Baltimore-based. Okay, I know Pinkshift is more mainstream than the other bands listed but I am adding them here because not many people know Pinkshift is nonbinary fronted! I see them listed among female-fronted punk bands all the time, which is not true, Ashrita is nonbinary, and has also spoken out about losing opportunities ever since coming out as NB because of the industry's failure to categorize them. They're like the coolest band ever, all of them are people of color, so if you haven't heard their music already check it out, I recommend starting with their Saccharine EP and then listening to the rest of their music because all of it is good

NYC-based, all transfemme dance punk trio. check out their debut album, "GO!" dropping 7/31!
- Film & Gender
Western Mass based, highly political bass + drum duo, puts on the best live shows, check out "T4T" and "F.W.A.G."
- tricktheriddle
NYC-based, witchpunk, they've posted a bit here on this sub! just released their new album "a chance encounter with the everpresent"
- Lollirot
NYC-based, black nonbinary grunge trio, they have one song out called "Dear Diary"
these are only a handful of bands i can think of that are transgender and proud of it! i tried to include bands that are usually forgotten from these types of lists. i've played with all of these bands before in my own all transgender riot grrrl trio Cat Crash-- (i'm opening for Pinkshift twice this weekend!) and i actively listen to all their music so i know they're good and they are good people.
if you are in the Bridgeport area/live along the metro north/CT rail line, on August 29th I am hosting our 2nd year of "Riot Grrrl's Not Dead!," an all-femme fronted 7 band festival highlighting bands with people of color, transgender people, and queer people. 1/2 of the proceeds will be donated towards Trans Lifeline! "Trans Lifeline is a grassroots hotline and microgrants 501(c)(3) non-profit organization offering direct emotional and financial support to trans people in crisis – for the trans community, by the trans community" [from their website].

my riot grrrl band, Cat Crash, played a gay drag wrestling cabaret called Cabarestle in Cambridge last weekend! it was so much fun!
in case you couldn't tell, the stage was located directly behind the wrestling ring. for one of our songs, i went into the ring!
the girl on guitar is my girlfriend btw :) she was filling in for our usual guitarist!
the actual drag/wrestling show was so cool and i'd love to go back just as a spectator:)

last month on May 13th my band Cat Crash opened for VIAL! we played with Scarlet Demore and VIAL at Space Ballroom in Hamden CT. this was a very special gig for me since several of our songs (notably WDYMHDOSP? and I'm Yr Bitch!) are directly inspired by VIAL! the day we got asked to open for them was one of the happiest days of my life. i've been big on social media promotion since 2024 and commonly one of the ways to promote yr band is to compare it to an already big artist, i used to compare our music to VIAL's so it's actually crazy that we got to play a show with them.
in August we're playing with Pinkshift and Fishbone on Staten Island. i am also very excited for that! 2026 has been a big year of playing shows with our idols, considering we've now played shows with Girl in a Coma, Skating Polly, bugsy. i'm very excited for what the future holds for Cat Crash!

me & my girlfriend (she/her) (i am nonbinary and use they/them pronouns) have been playing shows together this whole pride month since our usual guitarist is in India. we're in the band Cat Crash and marcie has a solo folk/ska project called Marcie! we have been playing one of marcie's songs, Gender Neutral Love Song, but making it punk!
she is my first girlfriend and she's so multitalented. we've been to New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts so far, we're going to Connecticut and NYC next! i love her so much 💓 we get to be gay on stage and it's awesome
