I think I hit the philodendron jackpot.

A few weeks ago, I really wanted to buy this medium 8”philodendron for $60 but decided to hold off until I had the money. I came back once I had the money and was so sad to see it was gone already. Right before leaving, I took one last look around and found this absolute giant 12- inch philodendron just hiding in the corner for the SAME PRICE OF $60.

I HAD to bring her home. She’s ridiculously huge and heavy. I even smashed my toe walking with her home, but SO worth it!!! This was my dream plant - I’m in love. 🥹

Trust the process. You’re growing even when you can’t see it yet. 🌱

In all seriousness, plants have taught me that some of the most important growth happens quietly. You may not see the results yet, but every small step, every setback, and every day you choose to keep going is shaping you.

This phrase above my work desk next to some of my favorite plants is a daily reminder for the days when I’m feeling low, doubting myself, or struggling to see how far I’ve come :)

Whatever you’re going through, give yourself the same patience you give your plants. Growth takes time, and not all progress is visible. Keep showing up. Keep growing.
Trust the process!

🪄 I Literally Manifested My Dream Plants.🪴

This year, after finally having a place to truly call my own, I fell in love with household plants. What started as buying “just one” quickly turned into spending countless hours (and probably hundreds of dollars 😅) exploring local nurseries and scrolling Facebook Marketplace in search of the perfect additions to my little indoor jungle every day.

I’ve always been in LOVE with pothos and philodendrons. There’s something so beautiful about their lush, cascading vines that makes a space feel alive. Trailing plants have completely stolen my heart, so I was genuinely so bummed when the philodendron I’d been dreaming about (and the only one I could afford) sold before I could get it. I was so bummed and couldn’t stop thinking about it for days - I let it go and just prayed a better deal would come my way.

And it did. Yesterday, something absolutely incredible happened. A super generous and kind man randomly decided to donate a whole collection of plants as he was moving across the country, and somehow I was lucky enough to bring home 9 of them: 3 philodendrons, 4 pothos, a monstera, and even a 40-year-old jade tree. I STILL CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!! 🥹😭

When I realized I was finally bringing home my dream philodendron (pic 3), I actually crashed out. I know it sound ridiculous, but these plants represent so much more than greenery to me. They are a remind of my passion, how far I’ve come, and finally having a home to fill with things I love and care so much about. 💚

I’m feeling so incredibly grateful, blessed, and so excited to care for these beautiful plants. I couldn’t stop thanking the guy. Sometimes the things we wait for have a funny way of finding us!

Anybody in their 20s here? Looking to meet new people and make new friends! 😊

My partner and I are both Cal grads (mid-late 20s) and recently moved to Alameda for his job downtown. We’ve absolutely fallen in love with the area. The neighborhoods are beautiful and safe, everyone has been incredibly friendly, and there are so many great restaurants and local shops to explore. We especially love South Shore and how convenient and family-friendly everything is.

For the most part, Alameda has been a perfect fit for us. But, the only thing I really miss is the social scene I had in college and while living in San Francisco for work, where it felt easier to meet new people and build community and it's making me sad. Everyone is married and has kids here which is also kinda hard for us to relate.

Anybody in the same boat?

EDIT: Thank you so much for all of the comments guys and being so welcome to the community!!! Sorry I am very busy with work currently, but will definitely respond to everyone by this weekend once things settle down a bit. Excited to make new friends! 😃

The boba/matcha/coffee prices here are becoming INSANE...😭😭😭

I love having a drink to motivate me for my morning study sessions...but man, I am noticing a HUGE spike within boba/matcha/latte prices every semester and yes, I know it's not just Berkeley but I can't take it anymore.

I wanna pass out every time I order on SnackPass (TPTea or Binge Coffee House) or even Strada which has extremely subpar coffee, but open late night and the total is $8-9 just for a freaking DRINK. Even a cup of hot tea is $5 these days. I know it's my choice obv, but sometimes my temptations can't help it or I can't go home to make it.

I had a free drink pass from Gold Bean Cafe, but the app didn't even allow me to use it because "none of the menu items quality". WTF?!?! These prices are becoming INSANE. Soon enough, we will just pay $10 for a drink like it's nothing.

I've resorted to making my own matcha/lattes at home. And although I had to spend a lot of money and learning, it's been sooooo much more worth it and I can add whatever flavors I like without feeling the guilt of adding an extra dollar. Just sucks when I'm outside and don't have that convenience.

Curious to hear - what are students thoughts on this?!? Or am I the only one crashing out from this 😭

Thoughts on 996 Startup Culture?

Thoughts? I know this is the startup mentality, but it’s actually depressing how 9-9-6 is becoming more and more normalized in startups and corporate America in general.
