Took my baby to a parking garage for a photo op

Im trying to find the safest option for traveling with my pup. I drive a smart car so no back seat and I have no real way of securing him in the trunk, plus it gets hot back there being right above the engine bay.

*** edit Trunk makes it sound much worse and I should have said hatch, but my intention is that most people have a back seat to secure their dog in. For the smart car there is just a small amount of space right behind the seats.
