how do we feel about the IPAC officer having no dental background?

so, the IPAC/health & safety officer of my office has no background that provides IPAC education in healthcare. she will literally grab gloves (without washing her hands), and then use them to grab things from inside of cabinets and drawers because she is “too lazy to wash” her hands. like. what.

i mean, im aware gloves are not sterile but. why are you grabbing them with unclean hands ?? why is she wearing gloves while setting up a room? how would i have known her gloves weren’t dirty if i didn’t see her put them on??

i tried to correct her on this and she completely brushed it off and acted annoyed with me after. like i’m sorry.. i went to school for three entire years learning this.

anyone else ever experienced this? 🙃🙃

artwork i made as a depressed 16 year old

i have nothing to do with this painting so i’m posting it here, i made it in high school for art class, i don’t remember what the prompt was, i was deep in my first flare and failing mesalamine. i remember being terribly depressed and traumatized by my diagnosis, as well as all of the medical procedures and symptoms. i got graded terribly LOL.

i’m 21 now and in remission!

weirdest pre-interview questionnaire ever

struggling to find a job seven months (due to travel) after graduating as a new grad. and i’m faced with this 💀 the job posting said it “only takes 40 minutes” to complete all of their tests. immediately no LOL.

i just can’t believe it, there’s so many job offers, but it’s like no dentist or office actually wants to hire anyone. they want corporate drones even in private practice!

i just want a job, but it’s so impossible as a new grad.

he bit my buttcheek and i can’t stop thinking about it

food is a chicken & catupiry pastel and caldo de cana (sugarcane juice) to drink!

so, me and my fiancé were 69ing and he was absolutely eating as he does, everywhere, as he does. but suddenly, he did something i’ve not only not experienced, but also never expected.

with all his teeth, he grabbed my ass cheek and started biting and sucking all at once.

y’all, i was absolutely floored. but it was so amazing, oh my god.

we’re apart now, as i’m back in my country, and i never thought this would be one of the things i’d be missing the most, but it is.

i miss him so much, obviously not just for sex, he’s my person, my world, i feel so deeply for him, i’m desperate to be in his presence again.

but guys, i miss having such intimate, fun, loving sex!!!!!

i can’t stop thinking about it, so i had to share.

edit: do not fucking dm me it’s extremely pathetic and i will NEVER want you

gynecologist told me incontinence is normal and i need help

title 😭.
went to gynecologist because i have torn like four times now from sex and sex is very painful (yes foreplay yes lube), i have stress incontinence, pressure/pain in my pelvic region after peeing, and both me and bf can feel a bulge of tissue in my vagina.

i seriously need help because i don’t know what to do so im welcoming any and all medical advice.

she told me it is normal to have pain during sex for up to a year after beginning your sexual life and this is so extremely strange and depressing to me and i can’t accept this. it seems untrue?? unreal?? i’ve only been having sex for one month.

im on BC and have skin fragility too and i asked about estrogen cream for the tearing as i’ve heard it has helped many people but she said it’s for menopause. im wondering if anyone here has any experience with this.

she also told me the stress incontinence is normal and many women just pee when they sneeze or cough or exercise….??????????

me and my bf can both feel a bulge in my vagina but my GP and this gynecologist would not give me a pelvic exam. i’m not sure how pelvic floor prolapses are diagnosed and i’m super confused by information online on what the appropriate diagnostic tool is. she told me a urodynamic study.

basically it was a very strange visit and i feel quite uncomfortable with the information she provided. it seems i just have to suffer lol.

she also didn’t know what HSD or hEDS is and asked how long i’ve had it (i’m in south america).

being an educated woman is exhausting

i’m a dental hygienist. so, to the world i’m the teeth cleaner, the dentist’s lackey. a girl who isn’t smart enough to be a dentist and does the dirty work.

truthfully, i am a healthcare professional who performs medical procedures (dental debridement) daily. i diagnose and treat disease. i perform cancer screenings. i provide nutritional counselling. i offer pain management through local anesthetics. 99% of people don’t know that dead tissue is often being removed during a dental cleaning if disease is present!

i went to school for three years. i took embryology, histology, advanced anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, pathology, microbiology, periodontology, radiology physics, and more.

but a man will always argue with me.
how could i possibly know ANYTHING about vaccines, fluoride, nutrition, health, or anything related to science???
my knowledge on science and medical/dental science will never be enough.

it’s impossible. i am simply not capable, i am just a woman.

anyways, shout-out to women who are nurses, dental assistants, dental hygienists, LPNs, PSWs, imaging techs, scientists, vet professionals, engineers, doctors, physicians, teachers, and all other educated and STEM oriented women 🫶🫶🫶

edit: someone asked me if i am pro vaccine… YES!

edit 2: @ the comments insulting me for saying i’m educated, or saying they wouldn’t trust dental hygienists to be educated in medicine, please, tell me the links between periodontal and systemic health 🥰🤭
when men are proud, they are strong and admirable. when women are proud, we are hysterical and naive.

disability humiliation: sports edition

warning this will be a self pity ramble but all advice is welcome. hoping it’s relatable.

so to give some context, i’ve always been horrible at sports involving balls or pucks, so like every sport. growing up, i tried to play sports, i tried to do foot hockey, soccer, basketball, badminton, volleyball, tennis.. everything! i knew i loved being physically active because i did gymnastics and i was good at that.

but it became something humiliating to me, because of how much i struggled. i never wanted to be a star, just to have fun, but i genuinely never could. i cannot hit a ball, i cannot catch, i just can’t. it resulted in a lot, a lot, a lot of bullying and hardship in my childhood, gym class was torturous, even worse being a girl, i was yelled at, called horrible things, insulted, and just bullied and humiliated. when the gym teacher put me on a team, everyone was upset.

it’s such a confusing thing to think about, i know i struggle immensely with poor proprioception and poor vestibular function, i do vestibular physiotherapy for this reason, but i don’t want to give an excuse, and say oh i must suck at sports because of my disability, and i don’t want to push a narrative that people with HCTDs cannot be successful in sports. i know i was successful in gymnastics and am successful in martial arts.

anyways, the other day my bf took me to volleyball with a bunch of his friends, cousins, and little brother/little brothers friends. i really wanted to have fun, but i just have to admit i didn’t have fun at all. i never showed any sadness or annoyance, but it was again humiliating to stand there and be completely incapable of playing. i tried, i got hit in the face, i failed, i laughed at myself alongside everyone else, but inside i feel embarrassed and like a little child again. it makes me want to say to everyone that hey i have a disability, i have no sense of coordination or movement in space or reflexes and everything hurts, that’s why i suck!!

but is my disability why i suck? i don’t think i’ll ever know really, how can i say? it’s such a complicated matter. i wish i found joy in sports like this, i know the point is not to be a star, it’s just to have fun, but how can i have fun when i can’t even play? when i see how much better my team played when i let someone sub in for me.

i don’t know, i’m just having a pity party about this tonight 😵‍💫

i offended my grandma and i can’t take this

dinner is pizza i made with BF ❤️.

long story short my bf is here from another country and my grandma offered to host us for 12 days, yay!
i’m so happy and grateful, i’ve been doing my absolute best to be polite and show gratitude, ofc i wash all our dishes, cook, i hang her laundry for her, i clean, i keep quiet, pay for groceries.. blabla.

but i guess i’m a failure and she’s perfect. because EVERYTHING I DO IS WRONG. i’m at a breaking point, i just want to sob. i feel like she’s made it her life mission to humiliate me in front of my bf. she says in front of him that i cook with garbage ingredients, she laughs at the way i wash my hands, she makes fun of how i do laundry, she says i eat at the wrong hours, she criticizes how much i sleep (after i just had a biologic medication infusion mind you which causes intense fatigue for 24hrs).

i may sound whiney but the constant micro criticisms are killing me, i feel humiliated, and then even more embarrassed when i get mad in front of my bf.

but i’m actually evil. i guess i really fucked up. she keeps a swedish dish cloth in her sink and uses it all day to clean stuff.. and then just rinses it with water and leaves it wet in the sink.. she told me to wipe up flour with it and i said isn’t that so dirty for the counter and that completely offended her. she went upstairs to bed and slammed her door. i went up to ask if she’s okay and what happened and she went on a rant about how rude that was and it’s her house and how she’s the cleanest person ever and chemicals are bad. i’m a dental hygienist, i studied chemicals for disinfection and sterilization for three years, but okay. i fucking suck and am a failure of a human being

i do NOT think you’re 18 just because i ID you

i ID literally everyone who looks like they could be 30 or below (policy). i get 32 year olds thinking i’m a fucking idiot who thinks they’re underage for ID’ing them due to this, getting mad at me due to this, or thinking i’m giving them the biggest dick sucking compliment of all time due to this.

please just leave me alone and show me your ID lest i get audited and lose my job. you’re not special

possible bladder prolapse??

hey guys, i just wanted to ask about people’s experience with bladder or pelvic floor prolapses, from the perspective of female anatomy, because i’m confused!

i’m not saying i necessarily have a bladder prolapse because i don’t really know, but i’ve been experiencing symptoms that have made me worried for a while but my doctor told me to do kegels and didnt feel like a pelvic exam was necessary. it’s not that i won’t do the PT but i’d like it documented as my GP denies i have a CTD now for some reason (she was the one who first introduced me to the possibility of eds, im currently with an hsd dx).

my symptoms include: stress incontinence, urge incontinence, feeling like i need to pee with a tampon in, a feeling of not fully emptying my bladder, and heaviness inside the vagina after urination. though i’ve never seen anything bulging out and don’t get the sitting on an egg feeling. but if i feel inside, it’s very squishy, like a balloon is there.. i’m not sure how to describe this.

anyone with experience? worth asking again for pelvic exam or just go ahead with PT for this?

new grad questions about appt sequence

hey guys, i’m a new grad and just completed my second ever shift as an RDH. it was a temp shift, as was my first.

i’m just wondering what’s normal, for reference i’m canadian.

so i had two NPs booked in my column, but i only had one hour for each. so i asked why it’s only one hour if i need to do complete hx, rads, perio charting.. and a woman (i’m not sure what her role was), told me it’s because i do hyg first and then the COE will be done afterwards with the doctor..? is this common? i felt pretty uncomfortable doing the debridement and education without having a diagnosis or any radiographs!! it’s my understanding that best practice is treating pts only after completing assessments to achieve a baseline and dx??

it’s not that i can’t somewhat guess the diagnosis or give general recommendations.. but i didn’t like going in so blindly. it felt wrong and inappropriate. or am i being too textbook about this?

i liked this office but this COE sequence is strange to me. and then i didn’t do the fluoride varnish because i knew they were going to be doing assessments on her and i wrote a physical note for the pt to bring about the tx i completed. but afterwards the doctor came into my op and questioned why i didn’t do it and asked me to go in and do it 🙃 it just felt strange to me

oops.. (i was rude to a customer)

not sure if flare is appropriate LOL but i (cashier) really oopsie-d yesterday.

normally i stay customer-servicey as best i can, but i’ll be blunt when needed and do a shitty/slow job when people are nasty.

so anyways, i was on SCO, one of my biggest pet peeves are people who leave their fucking receipt on the machine. literally slobs leaving their garbage for me to collect and throw out.

well i try to give benefit of the doubt and i ask before people leave to be sure: did you want your receipt?

well i asked this guy and he straight up looked back at it, looked at me, and said NOPE.

i said well you can throw it out next time 😐…. and he was taken aback.

i couldn’t be happier my boss is away right now 🫠 idek why i said that. i’m burnt the hell out. what i said was nothing compared to the things they say to us at least..

anyone else had an experience like this? 🤭

hello, i have a connection coming up in ORD that is three hours. incoming from brazil international at T5 going to outgoing to canada international at T2. this is july 17th. it’s one ticket (round trip).

my understanding is that i will come through immigration when i come at T5, and pick up my checked bags at baggage claim? or is this incorrect?
i’m not sure because the airline is changing from united incoming to air canada outgoing.

and then i need to get to T2 with the ATS? because this will be at 6:45am.

after this i’m not sure, i go through TSA again and check my bag again? i’ve read that the ATS is not in a secured area so i’ll have to go through TSA and then again since my outbound flight is international too.

im sorry guys i’m so unsure and very nervous!! 😩

hey guys, i graduated in december and got my license in march. i’m now taking my first ever shift in general tomorrow as a temp hygienist. i’m not seeking full or even part time in an office right now due to some personal things i’m taking care of.

what’s made it even worse is, i’ve been trying to contact the office this week, but turns out they actually changed their clinic name and haven’t even updated it on the agency, so i had trouble finding the right contact 😭 and today they’re closed! so i’m truly going in BLIND tomorrow.

any advice?

the office has 60min appts at least, rather than 45..

i’m so nervous! not just about treatment/time management, but not knowing where anything is, who anyone is.. but i’m super excited too
