"I Need My Space"

My 3 year old has been saying, "that's my space" a lot in the last few days. I assume he learned it at daycare. He mostly directs it to the dog if the dog is on the couch where he wants to be, he says, "that's my space."

Tonight he wasn't settling down for bed so I asked if he wanted to snuggle. In the quietest voice he whispers, "I need my space" and my mama heart broke a little.

My Toddler's "Favorite Book"

Tonight, I asked my three year old what his favorite book was and encouraged him to go get it. He stood up and hovered by my fiction books, so I said, "your books, go pick your favorite book."

He turned to the nonfiction shelf and got this one and brought it back to me. I read the whole intro by Hillary Clinton out loud and kept asking him, tearfully, "THIS book is your favorite?" and he kept nodding very seriously. Lol

P.S. I'm not running for office. I can't with my job. I was just intrigued by this on Bookshop.org. But I hope you ladies are inspired! Maybe my son was too!

What Hits Differently Now That You're Older?

Meredith and Derek's relationship for sure. Not how it started which is certainly suspect post #metoo.

The struggle over whose career gets to take precedence feels very relatable in a dual working family. Couldn't relate at all watching it in high school and college but those scenes hit home now.

But also that part where he leaves to go to the store and is gone for over an hour while she's stuck with the baby. Honestly appreciate those episodes where they are struggling through the baby days lol

Crying in the Mothers' Room

Today was my first day back at work except I'm not back at my old job, I'm enrolled in a post-graduate program that my job sent me to.

There's a bulletin board in the mother's room where someone left a note in 2020 that spending hours in this windowless room is isolating and left her phone number to text her, in an effort to connect with other moms in the same "season." That made me cry.

There are photos up of babies from 2017, 2018, 2019, and her note and baby picture from 2020. There's a couple others without names and dates. I don't know if women have used the room and not put up photos or if it's really been that long since it was used.

I couldn't help but think about how those kids are 6-10 now and their baby photos are still up in this windowless room, almost like a shrine to their mothers' efforts and love. These photos of babies I don't even know made me so emotional. This program is mostly men and they will never know what it's like to step out to go sit in this windowless room.

There's a list of email addresses but most moms left their work emails and who knows if they even still with their respective organizations after all this time. I'd kind of like to tell them their photos are still there.
