Lee Cronin's The Mummy: Miles Better than Obsession or Backrooms
Sure, the latter two films have apparently overwhelmed the senses of low-attention span / second-screen kids. It's understandable if you a) have not actually seen that many movies and b) have been trained since birth to give equal attention to whatever flashing light is most recently demanding your attention.
Watch just a few more films and you will instantly realize that Obsession is just a super simple-minded Monkey's Paw story - with zero interesting variations. Backrooms has a more interesting concept, but is equally poorly-executed. Kudos to the latter for trying something slightly (um, David Lynch's works have been around for decades and Backrooms doesn't even hold a candle to any) new.
Lee Cronin's The Mummy is no masterpiece, but it was actually really watchable. The child actors are great. The touches of humour, jumpscares, and backstory are appreciated. The characterization is actually pretty good - rare for a horror. The twists were minimal, but they were there.
Obsession and Backrooms are trendy, but The Mummy was an entertaining movie.
