Just clean your AirPods

I’m tired of people posting how the “NC is no longer good”, “transparency sounds like trash after the latest update”, “there’s a rare beep sound”, etc. Just clean your AirPods.

I personally do it every 3 to 4 months, but this will of course vary depending on use and lifestyle. The telltale sign for me is when they start playing a subtle white noise in absolute silence with nothing playing.

If it’s your first time, don’t use tap water for deep cleaning, and especially NEVER use alcohol, as it can loosen the adhesive over time. Apple’s website and YouTube guides are pretty easy to find.

I will add that Apple suggests letting them dry for at least two hours. While it’s probably safe to put them back in the case after this time, in my experience, they only truly go back to normal after a day.

Note: I know visually there isn’t that much difference, but the micellar water does a good job at getting the tiny bits of dirt and buildup out

16 Pro gets 90 Mbps while 13 Pro Max gets 250+ Mbps on the same Wi Fi

I’m trying to figure out why my iPhone 16 Pro is getting significantly worse results in Steam Link’s network test than other devices on the exact same network.

My setup:

- PC is connected via Ethernet and gets around 900 Mbps on the network.
- iPhone 16 Pro and my GF’s 13 Pro Max are connected to the same 5 GHz Wi Fi.
- We’ve tested from the same relative distance from the router.
- Steam Link has the same settings on both phones, including bandwidth set to Unlimited.
- 16 Pro consistently gets around 90 - 100 Mbps in Steam Link’s network test.
- 13 Pro Max consistently gets 250+ Mbps.
- Both iPhones are running iOS 26.60
- An older Android phone also gets 150+ Mbps under the same conditions.

What’s weird is that this doesn’t seem to be a general Wi Fi problem. I ran Ookla Speedtest on both iPhones and they get roughly the same results. The huge difference seems to be specific to Steam Link.

Things I’ve already tried:

  1. Low Power Mode is OFF on 16 Pro (It was enabled on the 13 Pro Max and that made no difference)
  2. Low Data Mode is OFF.
  3. No VPN is currently enabled.
  4. Steam Link settings are identical between the devices.
  5. Confirmed I’m connected to the 5 GHz band.
  6. Reset Network Settings on my iPhone, but it made no difference.
  7. I’ve also tried placing the iPhone right next to the router, but Steam Link still stays around 90 - 100 Mbps. (This is driving crazy)

I’m wondering if there is some obscure iOS setting, privacy setting, battery optimization (although I’ve tried everything at this point), or something else that could be affecting Steam Link specifically on my 16 Pro.

The fact that the 13 Pro Max and an older Android phone both get substantially higher results on the same network makes me think there might be something specific to my iPhone or the Steam Link app on this device.

Has anyone experienced something similar or knows of any iOS settings that could affect Steam Link’s network test?

Update:

I was mistaken when I said both iPhones were running 26.6. My GF told me she had updated recently, but after checking, she was still on 26.5

She updated iOS, and her 13 Pro Max is actually performing worse now, at around 75 Mbps.

It sucks that it came down to a faulty software update. Hopefully Apple fixes it.

I’m still curious if any of you are experiencing the same thing on iOS 26.6.

My pocket sized leverless controller

The model of the controller is the 8BitDo Lite SE 2.4g. I was immediately interested in the full face button layout, but none of the reviews I watched tried taking advantage of it.

I’ve been using it for the past month, and even though the hand placement feels a bit awkward at first, it’s definitely viable.
It’s a great option if you’re already used to a leverless layout and want something with a similar feel on the go.

Alternatively, I set up a second profile with the directional buttons mapped the same way as a JoyCon. That lets you hold the controller instead of having to lay it flat on your lap or a table.

Unfortunately, it isn’t recognized by iPadOS or iOS, whether you try wired or use the 2.4G receiver.
It does work with Android and macOS, on top of Windows and Xbox.

I definitely recommend it for fighting games and 2D games in general

Got Rain World running on my old phone with an emulator

There are occasional frame drops, especially during the first few minutes after booting the emulator for the first time, but after that it gets surprisingly stable and very playable.

One drawback is that the game crashes randomly. Sometimes it’ll run for an hour, other times it’ll crash after just 5 minutes. That could be due to my device and/or configuration.

The emulator is Winlator, my old phone is a Poco X4 Pro, and the emulator resolution is set to 640×360. It’s very low, but for a game like Rain World it doesn’t really matter, and it helps with stability.

If you’re wondering how I got the DRM free files, I bought the game on sale on GOG and downloaded the offline installer.

As far as I know, there’s no easy way to do this on iOS or iPadOS. Hope this helps someone wanting to do the same

Difference in Batfly movement at 60 vs 180 FPS

I don’t think this makes any difference during actual gameplay, but aside from looking smoother, it feels more “organic” to me

Both videos were recorded at 240 FPS and slowed down to 24 FPS

I’m getting these unavoidable flash messages every 30 minutes telling me to pay for a service I canceled a month ago

Customer care confirmed the cancellation, but apparently they can’t do anything about the messages

I’m the only one who didn’t know this was a feature?

I’ve completed Monk’s, Survivor’s, Hunter’s, and Artificer’s campaigns without knowing this was a thing
