Debrid legal trouble is it a bad sign for usenet?

I know in general usenet networks are more resilient than debrid services. However it seems like usenet has historically survived by obscurity.

Do you see Crack downs on other platforms leading to a large infusion into usenet? Will servers get overloaded? Will this lead to more legal scrutiny for usenet? Or is this just a temporary glitch in the matrix that will fix itself?

What say you? Will all the legal trouble debrid services are getting be good, bad or have no effect on usenet ?

Using AIOstreams with Usenet... how to be a good citizen of the community?

First of all I am not sure this is the best place to ask this question but I am nervous to ask in one one of the Usenet forums. I have been an avid user of Usenet for a few years now. I have a pretty nice media server setup. However as we all know the price of hard drives has gotten crazy lately so it has sent me on a hunt for a reliable way to stream my media instead of downloading it. As it happens the whole dribid drama happens so I am quite nervous to go that route. Then comes AIOstreams..... wft I can direct stream Usenet? often with better reliability than my automated arr stack can grab content? This has literally been a God send.

So now I learn using Usenet this way is a bit controversial. I don't fully understand why..... well I guess streaming brings more attention to the platform, and the first rule of Usenet is "don't talk about it". The other objection is "server load". However even when I stream high bitrate content I am only using like 100mbs, when my arr stack is hitting the servers I can easily saturate my gig connection. They say streaming is a "different type of server load" I guess but I don't understand.

Can anyone help me understand why using AIOstreams with Usenet is so controversial and help me also understand how I can setup my instance to a better member of the Usenet community?

AIOstreams as middleware for usenet and stremio do I need a vpn?

I have been an avid Usenet user for a couple years now. Managing my arr stack on an unraid server has been a fun hobby. However with the rising prices of hard drives I am looking for options to stream instead of download. For years the best choice would be a debrid option however, I feel like I am late to the game for that, all kinds of legal trouble happening there.

In the USA generally you get in trouble for doing peer to peer, direct downloading doesn't tend to get attention from law enforcement or your ISP. Considering my connection to my usenet provider is secure over https and everything in encrypted I have never felt a need for a vpn and have never had any trouble.

However if I add AIOstreams into my stack am I introducing any security or privacy issues that should make me reconsider my use of a vpn? I only want to use AIOstreams to direct stream from the usenet provider I already have... ATM I have no interest in torrents. So can I safely add AIOstreams without running it through a vpn?

How to unlock phone with a broken screen?

I have an S23u whose screen started cracking a month or two ago... tiny crack it had no effect on usability until today.... all of a sudden I noticed the touch wasn't working right. There is multiple dead spots on the screen. So I figured the most tried and true solution should be tried "have you tried to turn it off and on again?". Once the phone rebooted, I had to enter my pin to unlock it... face or fingerprint won't work after a restart. And don't you know it.... there is dead spots where I need to enter my pin.

Researching online the only solution seems to be to plug in a usb keyboard and/or mouse. However any usb device I try to plug in I get a "unlock to use usb" message. After doing some more digging, it appears this is a security "feature" intentionally put there by Samsung. If the phone has been locked for long enough or if you reboot it you have to unlock it to use a usb device with it.

Are there any work a-rounds? I have already ordered a new phone. The vast majority of my photos are backed up. However all my app data and passwords are on my phone so I want to get it unlocked so I can transfer everything over. What are my options?

[w]Anyone willing to trade 128 (4x32) ecc udimms AT 3200 for 128 gig Rdimms?

I have an older home server running on the am4 x570 platform. I would really like more pcie lanes. My first choice would be threadripper (so I could reuse my memory), but any system that would actually be an upgrade would be insanely expensive.

Now I have found some deals on epyc system that are very tempting. However I have no rdimms to put in it. And to buy new would cost probably twice what the board and cpu would cost me.

Then I realized I have udimms, and they sell for more than rdimms. So I am looking for a person or business that might be interested in trading like udimms for rdimms.

Air "fresheners" at skilled nursing facility are making me sick.

I work as an RNA (restorative nursing assistant). For the industry, I work in a great building. We either have 5 or close to 5 stars. Everyone who visits says it is the cleanest building that they have ever been in.

From time to time our dsd will go spray the entire building with air freshener. The crazy thing is we don't need it... our building is CLEAN. Today I think it was our admissions director that sprayed something really nasty... even those not sensitive like me said it smells bad. God help us if we ever get a site visit from one of our contractees or public health is in the building..... they bring out the strong stuff. I don't understand why they do it, it makes it feel like we are trying to cover something up but we have no need to do that.

When housekeepers spray stuff that bothers me... I have complained and they stop. There are only very specific products they are allowed to use. However management can do what ever they want. I feel very uncomfortable complaining about management.

I am a relatively healthy strong person and it is making me sick. I feel bad for the residents... they have no voice in the matter. These products use known carcinogens and endocrine disruptors.

I work in California, and according to our laws I have a right to a safe and healthy workplace. This right is not being respected. My question is how best to get change. I see two paths....

  1. I can complain to public health on behalf of our residents. These products should not be used around sick people.
  2. I can complain to OSHA as a workplace violation.

Which option is most likely to lead to actual change with the least chance of retaliation? Should I follow both courses simultaneously?

I have even considered when they spray and I get a migraine... going to hr and tell them I need to go to the clinic, or complaining to corporate, however I see many ways that could go badly for me.

Help me understand these plx switches.

So I would love to make better use of my pcie lanes for my unraid server. At the moment I am not too interested in Ai but I could make use of extra 8x or 16x slots. Doing my research i see two ways to do this and I am curious of the benefits/downsides to each solution.

The first option would likely need its own enclosure (i have a meshify 2xl) i would love to mount it across the bottom but all the boards i have seen are too big. Also i don't see any enclosures that would work well with just this plus a powersupply.... cases are mostly made for standard mb sizes and full pc builds.

The second option would allow me to squeeze my new slots where ever I can find room ( case is big so it is do able). The downsides i see ate cabling costs will be much higher, and cable.management may be difficult. I also doubt I have enough molex power leads from my psu to power all the slots so I might need an extra power supply regardless.

What i don't understand is which solution would be easier to.maintain a pcie gen 4 signal down the whole chain? Will that single cable in the first solution give me more stability than the multiple cables in the second solution?

Last question.... when it comes power consumption is there any significant differences between these solutions? I know the 88096 is a power hungry chip.... however if it is plugged directly into the mother board vs powered by its own power supply, does it make a difference?

Trying to diagnose a pfsense router issue...

Twice in the last week i have had pc's loose internet access, even though a ping from the router shows it connected and all my modem lights look right. While this is happening the pcs thankfully still have lan access. So far the the fix i have found is rebooting my router.

I strongly suspect I am overloading my router with out bound connections, since I am trying to process thousands of iptv links with dispatcharr.

However two thing make me question this assumption.... #1 my router has an n5105 with 8 gigs of ram... it should be way overkill for anything home related. #2 my dispatcharr app routs everything through a vpn even before it hits my router.

So if I am sending hundreds or thousands of connections at once through my vpn... is my router required to keep an open connection for all of those links? Or does my router only see one vpn connection leaving the house?

Perhaps my isp is blocking me or throttling me... but then i don't understand why a ping from my router would work.

Also if my routing table is getting overwellmed... would that effect lan traffic at all? Maybe my switch is the one getting overwhelmed?

Mta: before having this problem my router had probably over a year of uptime... I have never had to reboot for basic maintenance or problems.

Security conserns

So maybe I was a bit out of the loop and I am just learning about glassworm and github vulnerabilities to stolen tokens.

I am quite concerned about the security of most of the repos.

Also considering how unraid is setup and is particularly vulnerable to containers that escape...

With that in mind I want to increase my security. Would it be worth it to build a vm within unraid to host all my apps? This would improve portability and make backups/snapshots easier. I just want to know if it will significantly improve my security posture.

New type of bank "urban development fund"

This is an add on to my earlier post.... I did make it out of my temporary crisis.

In the real world governments don't spend cash from the treasury for building projects. They great investment funds or write bonds to cover them. Often they invite private investment to participate.

If tropico had a bank work mode "urban development fund" I think it would really awesome and add a level of realism to the game.

Budgeting tool that would really help

So I am in the modern era... At least for me it has felt like a speed run.

My economy is strongly cash flow positive. However I am trying to do very big projects, and you know all the shit you have to do to get elected.

Considering all the new expenses of the modern era and all the building i am doing I have found myself living from.one transport to the next. I am not that worried because if I stop spending my treasury starts filling up.

The problem is if I am not careful with my spending on building I can go quite in debt before the next barge.

What i would like is a tool that would either tell me what profit I have from each ship (vs gross). Or some option to have a building fund where your expenses is paid first then everything else gets put there. This could even be an option to improve el president's slush fund.
