SF last night

Incredible. And overwhelming. Started off classy and kinda demure. But then she got her guitars and started spitting—some landed on Jules’ pants 💀💀💀. Her voice sounded amazing; maybe the best I’ve ever heard her sing. Really glad I got to see the show.

Daniel Lanois interview for RS; talks about making Unshaken

“I did one of his last big interviews and spent some time with him in 2015. I loved D'Angelo and obviously we've lost him. What were the extent of your collaborations with him, perhaps beyond what we've heard?

I met D'Angelo quite early on in the Red Dead Redemption music making. I met him at the Rockstar Games office in Manhattan, speaking of Manhattan, and we hit it off nicely. I played him a track that I had at the time as a 6'8 rock song that he loved.

He said he would be happy to work on that with me. So, that's what we initially went to do together, and that track did not pan out. He worked on it for a couple of days.
He said, Dan, I'm not really getting anywhere with this. And I said, well, we're here to have a good time and get to a special place. I said, give me a chance, give me a day and I'll come up with another track.

I built a new track for him. And we already had a one line that was used on the soundtrack, that line, May I Stand Unshaken Amidst the Crash of Worlds, which is something we had recorded in New Orleans. It was written by Rocco De Luca, that line.

And I took that line to D'Angelo, but I wrote then the 30 other lines to the song. And that became the song that you'd be familiar with from D'Angelo.

Wow. And anything beyond that? Any, did you guys stay in touch?

We did keep in touch. Only so much. We talked about doing some more work together, and he came up as a church man, and I came up through church, and worked quite a bit with church folks, including Brian Blade and his family in Shreveport, Louisiana.

D was very touched by my having worked with the Neville Brothers. He was a fan of the Neville Brothers, and was always a point of reference for him for magnificent work done in the South by the meters and so on. And so I think there was an underlying respect there, that we were both in this for the right reasons.”

Did women in the 80s actually find Prince sexually attractive?

Genuine question. He comes across as a complete caricature to me, like some comedy characters who are comically self confident and hit on every woman despite being utterly unattractive

Request: D’ on MTV TRL video

Anyone have a video of D’s appearance in TRL from 2000? Carson was interviewing him. And it was on his 26th birthday! He was talking about Electric Lady, the video, the upcoming tour, etc.

I’ve seen clips of pretty much every MTV appearance (MTV Live in 97, all the Movie Awards clips, with Bill Bellamy) EXCEPT for that TRL appearance. Thanks.

New Pride Source article/interview

“I mean, I never was not openly queer. I think it just really entered the conversation in a big way 12 years ago. In terms of music press, if you were asking, yeah, I was clear about it from the third record or something. You can't get gayer than, like, a wife and a child.”
