[Android Beta] I built a free, offline cognitive trainer. Need DNB veterans to test my adaptive timing (is 1.7s too fast?)

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on Kognix, a neurocognitive trainer focused on working memory and executive functions. It’s 100% offline, completely free, with no ads and zero telemetry.

The core modules (Adaptive Dual N-Back, Stroop, Digit Span, eCorsi, Memory Palace) are functional, but I’ve hit a wall with calibration and I need objective data from people who actually play these tests regularly.

Specifically, I need your feedback on the Dual N-Back Adaptive Algorithm:

Currently, the adaptive difficulty drops the timing to 1.7s per turn at higher levels. Some initial feedback suggests this is too aggressive for a mobile UI and turns it into a reaction-time test rather than working memory. I would love to know how this pacing feels to experienced DNB players here. Is 1.7s playable on a touch screen, or should I hard-cap it at 2.0s?

(Secondary ask: The app generates a KCI radar chart based on your baseline. I need fresh eyes to tell me if the psychometric normalization feels balanced).

How to test (Android only):

You can download the APK directly from my GitHub Releases page here:

GitHub Release v0.9.0-beta (Download APK)

(Note: I have temporarily enabled Wiredash in this beta so you can send me feedback directly inside the app without leaving it. The final release will be entirely offline).

Any harsh critiques on the UI or the timing limits are highly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

[Beta] I built a 100% offline cognitive trainer. Need expert help calibrating the KCI scoring and adaptive Dual N-Back (is 1.7s too fast?)

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on Kognix, a neurocognitive trainer focused on working memory and executive functions. It’s 100% offline, completely free, with no ads and zero telemetry. All psychometric data stays strictly on your device.

The core modules (Adaptive Dual N-Back, Stroop, Digit Span, eCorsi, Memory Palace) are functional, but I’ve hit a wall with calibration and I need objective data from people who actually understand these tests.

Specifically, I need your feedback on two things:

1. The Dual N-Back Adaptive Algorithm:

Currently, the adaptive difficulty drops the timing to 1.7s per turn at higher levels. Some initial feedback suggests this is too aggressive for a mobile UI and turns it into a reaction-time test rather than working memory. I would love to know how this pacing feels to experienced DNB players here.

2. The KCI (Cognitive Profile) Scoring:

The app generates a radar chart based on your baseline. I need fresh eyes to tell me if the psychometric normalization feels balanced or if certain tests are weighted too heavily.

How to test (Android only):

You can download the app-release.apk directly from my GitHub Releases page here:

v0.9.0-beta

(Note: I have temporarily enabled Wiredash in this beta so you can send me feedback directly inside the app without leaving it. The final release will be entirely offline).

Any harsh critiques on the UI, the timing limits, or the scoring math are highly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Time to spice up my grocery routine. What's your "wild card" ingredient?

I usually stick to a staple list of healthy ingredients that I just restock every week. But sometimes I like to throw in something completely new just to experiment—sometimes it’s a hit, sometimes a miss! I want to mix things up this week. What’s your favorite unexpected or underrated ingredient that you always make sure to put in your grocery cart?"

Possible reason for the lack of vaping cravings

Day 6, I feel practically zero cravings. I have no motivation to do anything, but that's about it, and that can be managed and is already managed (pacing my work and doing aerobic exercise).

I kept wondering why I have absolutely no urge to take even a single puff from my vape, even though it's literally within arm's reach. I quit regular cigarettes about 20 years ago and it was hell; for weeks, I thought about practically nothing else. This is completely different.

Other possible reasons that come to mind: for almost 2 years, I was vaping about 10ml of 3mg liquid daily, but unflavored.

However, I was just looking into what else could affect cravings, and I take somewhere between 1.8 and 2g of magnesium threonate in the morning.

According to the study https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18557129/ Mg should reduce cravings. Is there anyone else here who takes it, whether experiencing cravings or not?

End of Addictions

Hi, I wasn't exactly addicted to alcohol, but I regularly got drunk to the point where I couldn't even speak. It's been a year and a half now that I've had it completely under control.

And this Monday I said to myself, "How about quitting vaping? And why not right now? Any day is just as good for it."

Day 4, the nicotine is out of my system, no problem.

After all the changes I've made in my life recently, it's actually very easy.

I'm really glad I didn't put it off until "someday".

A study of 4.5 million ex-smokers found that people who quit cigarettes but kept vaping had a 56% higher lung cancer risk than those who quit nicotine entirely. The largest study of its kind, published in Nature Medicine, directly challenges a decade of harm reduction messaging around e-cigarettes.
