Laws in EL for apartment AC

Our apartment AC broke around April 4th. They finally gave us a portable AC unit a month after. Stupid thing doesn’t do crap for keeping anything other than the living room at a good temperature. We have it set around 70*F. Figured we would keep it at that so the bill wasn’t too high. Didn’t know it could get as high as it is right now. Just got our utility bill and we are paying $255 EACH. I’m reading through the lease to find anything on AC listed as a provided amenity. We genuinely cannot pay this. Anyone know if we can fight this or if theres specific laws on it in this area?

Water bowl recommendations

I am at the end of my rope with my aqua cat.(Male 9 months) He sits in the sink all day and is obsessed with toilets and bathtubs. He drinks a lot of water which is great but I need a solution for his bowl situation.

He used to have a water fountain that he loved but lost the fountain privileges because he created water damage to my apartment flooring (there is also a mat under his food/water). I switched to a normal cat bowl in a gigantic popcorn bowl so he flung less water everywhere. That seemed to do the trick but he drinks it quick and I would prefer for him to have more water incase I’m not around to refill it right away. I work EMS 12 hour shifts, sometimes 24.

Just set up a new gravity water dispenser that is lifted like 8 inches off the floor but that did nothing to stop his habits. It is currently in the bathtub with a pool of water surrounding it. Does anyone have recommendations for water dispensers/bowls that would help?

The video makes him look hard of vision. He is not blind😓

Water bowl recommendations

I am at the end of my rope with my aqua cat. He sits in the sink all day and is obsessed with toilets and bathtubs. He drinks the proper amount of water out of his bowls. Doesn’t seem to have a problem with drinking out of them.

He used to have a water fountain that he loved but lost the fountain privileges because he created water damage to my apartment flooring. He repeatedly scoops the water out of the bowls onto the floor. Doesn’t knock anything other thankfully. I switched to a normal cat bowl in a gigantic popcorn bowl so he flung less water everywhere. That seemed to do the trick but he spills it quick and I would prefer for him to have more water incase I’m not around to refill it right away.

I won’t drop what apartment complex we live at but I will say it’s not owned by DTN. Our AC unit broke April 1st. They had a company come in to fix it. Still wasn’t fixed so maintenance came in a couple times after that. Didn’t say anything about it, didn’t send us an email or anything. Still not working. We talked to the front office and apparently they need to replace the whole unit. No updates or anything for a month and they didn’t give us a portable unit. We live on the third floor and it has been freakishly cold and very hot on the warm days.

Went in a week and a half ago to ask about it. They go “Yeah the whole unit needs to be replaced, we are getting quotes for a new one. There’s a list of units that need replacements but you are towards the top.” I asked for a portable unit and they said they would make a note. Still no portable unit. Still no update on a new unit.

My roommate went in today and they said that maintenance ignored their text about getting us a portable unit. It’s going to start getting warm out soon.

I’m getting really agitated. I’m genuinely really chill about living conditions and we don’t make a fuss about much. AC is something I don’t play about though, especially paying $1,600 a month for rent.

Has anyone else has an experience with this? I don’t know if there is anything I can do about it. I don’t think AC is a necessity item for renting but maybe I should look through the lease. Don’t know if I might be able to push for getting money off our rent?
