Finally got my button bands I knit on 1.5mm needles seamed to my self drafted “pin tuck” top!

I was dreading the vertical-horizontal edge mattress stitch seaming as the gauge is so drastically different, but with YouTube(thank you so much Roxanne Richardson) and some patience it was done today. Not professional or perfect but imo passable.

It’s still a long term WIP and honestly I’m just wanting to finish this first iteration to move on and make the second version more polished. I’m a beginner in self drafting but am determined to make my vision work out and become a nice garment. This version isn’t completely up to my standards, but I’m actually so proud of everything about it so will definitely finish it before I tweak many things on the second version.

What species is this newt?

Found up in Alpe di Siusi, Dolomites near a body of water. Not the summit but gondola height. Looked about 5cm.

So beautiful and would like to know its name.

Buddha jewelry quality concerns?

Hi all, I’m interested in getting these disk lazer threadless ends from Buddha jewelry, as they’re gorgeous and I haven’t been able to find anything comparable from different brands. However, given the price and the fact that I have to order overseas through my piercer, I’m wondering if it wouldn’t be a good idea to purchase a piece from them. I’ve read things about their lacking warranty compared to other brands(overwhelmingly so), and that it’s almost impossible to get repaired (and that some piercers don’t carry them due to quality issues regarding the steel pins).

It’s a lot of money, and I don’t (can’t) want to end up with a headache if anything breaks. Please share your thoughts and experiences regarding this brand! Additionally if there’s any other reputable brands with similar designs I would really appreciate suggestions!

Irritation from jewelry change or metal issues?

Hi all, a day ago I changed my years old first lobe titanium hoops out to insert some small gold filled rings as charms, like pictured. Doing the left ear was smooth but I had some trouble inserting the hoop back in the right ear, especially since I can’t grab the lobe due to my healing second and third lobe piercings. In the end I did get them on albeit with some struggle. I’m a bit concerned due to specifically the area of the lobe that is a bit pink. It’s not at the site of the first lobe hole nor the other two healing lobes, but just below where the gold filled rings may brush upon the skin occasionally. Is this just weird irritation from a rough jewelry change or some sort of metal sensitivity from the gold filled rings? I have no known metal allergies. My left ear is fine, no problems at all in insertion and it’s placed differently from the right in that the gold filled rings don’t really touch my skin. I really like how they look and hope this is just some irritation that will go away soon.

My skin is dry, apologies! I’m just not touching the ear unless absolutely necessary due to my healing lobe piercings.

Piercing near existing lobe hole possible?

Hi all, just wondering about whether it is viable to pierce a new first lobe and second lobe 1.5-2mm away (horizontally) from the older 10+ year old established hole. It’s uneven with my first lobe on my other ear, and no matter how I try to lean into asymmetry, I think I really want the main lobes to be relatively even, especially since I have no plans to get my ears fully decked out.

I’m aware that the existing hole is never going to close, so wondering if piercing too close to it may cause merging or if the appearance of the existing hole will bother me. If possible how far/close does the old hole have to be for it to be successfully pierced? If I can get it pierced, I’m going to leave the old hole without any jewelry!

I’ll be asking my piercer for sure, but just want to hear from people with similar experiences and other piercers.

If it matters, my earlobes are quite thin (4.8mm bar fits nicely) and though the existing hole is there, maybe due to the lobe not being plump it’s not cratering (dimple-ing) if that makes any sense.

Picture is what I’m thinking about.

Downsized 2nd and 3rd lobe piercings

(Not sure if it counts as a set up but..)

Got these done a month ago and finally got them downsized! Also got the ends changed to matching 3mm lavender studs (neometal threadless titanium flat backs) as I’m planning to keep them in for about 6 months or so. The previous ends were mismatched (second photo, was my choice) and I wasn’t having it. The ear is a little red and swollen since it was done a few hours ago but there’s no pain. Super happy that they’re healing nicely so far, and my piercer even mentioned that they’re in great shape. I had no blood or crusties at all and just completely avoided touching them with my long hair up while just spraying sterile saline 1-2 times a day.

So glad I decided on a pricier piercer for lobes

At first I thought that getting my second and third lobe piercings on one ear at a place 3-4 times the cost of other places was me being unreasonable, since lobes are known to be less particular. The place I went to does really unique advanced piercings as well, so I figured my lobes would be a walk in the park (I love how mine turned out!). Got my first lobes at a stationary store (with a gun) and had a second lobe fail to heal after getting them at Claire’s (with a stapler thing), so kinda went nuclear and went to the very other end of the spectrum to (over?)compensate.

But honestly after hearing about the piercing experiences of people around me, and comparing it to my experience, I got to understand why it wasn’t too reckless of me paying more, and appreciate what I got.

I need to add that I’m not located in an English speaking country so everything I’ve experienced is very rare.

The piercer:

  1. had a sterile separate room and took longer to sterilize than to pierce me, continued to show me the single use equipments during the process.

  2. gave such detailed aftercare instructions (like where to buy saline spray and how), also assuring me that many things that happen during the healing process is normal (a big deal for the individuals, but nothing he hasn’t seen or treated with) and just contact him when concerned. Also informed me of the type of jewelry used before being asked, which is actually not that common.

  3. pierced me with app certified threadless titanium jewelry - really really rare in my area, many won’t even carry them(not in the US), of course the jewelry costs a lot more but wow the polishing is great even to my untrained eye. Although I can’t afford them, the gold jewelry the shop carries are all app too, him mentioning he couldn’t get detailed alloy composition for the gold jewelry available locally so he only imports from places providing the info. Also gave me a lecture on safe metals and thinner gauges being unstable lol.

  4. told me I need to wait a minimum (emphasized) of 6 months before I can put rings/hoops in. Also to get my bar downsized in time, even for lobes.

  5. only pierces legal adults (probably to not deal with children and parents) and usually the minimum gauge is 16g for ear piercings.

  6. I had so many questions even though I only got lobe piercings done, which were answered very quickly via text. This isn’t very common at lower priced places, especially for small questions. I’m glad to have the peace of mind that I can reach out to the piercer first before overthinking and frantically search on google.

All in all, very happy with my experiences and even planning to get my first cartilage piercing done at this studio. Realistically I’ll be having max two piercings healing a year, so the price point is something I can save up to guarantee a smooth and safe process.

WOW this post is long but couldn’t help but feel happy to find such a legit piercing studio in my area!

Also people please get pierced with a needle, even for lobes. The lack of fuss/pain coming from the blunt trauma is just so worth it. The healing process has been so smooth compared to past experiences.
