Paris's last line to Rory being the thing that made her hate Rory in the first place

The last thing Paris said to Rory in the OG series was "you are going to do such great things with your life, Rory."

I think that is such a nice touch in the writing. Because Paris hated Rory the moment she saw her, and hated her even more once she realized how much potential she had. It was nice to see that all of Paris's character development led to that one moment. She went from someone who saw Riry's potential as a threat to someone who saw Rory's potential as a happy thing.

What was the most shocking Gilmore Girls scene for you?

The moment that had your jaw on the floor.

For me, it was not when TJ fought Jess, but when Luke jumped in and started shaking Jess, telling him to knock it off and all Jess was doing was repeating "stop! Stop! Stop!" My instincts would have been to push TJ off of Jess considering he's older, started the fight, and provoked the fight, but hey 🤷‍♀️

What was your shocking moment?

I rewatched this scene and the principal was so rude

This scene was when Jess was told that he couldn't graduate or go to the prom.

When I first watched it, I was like "yeah, if you miss school, you can't graduate obviously." But on rewatch I'm shocked at the principal being so angry with Jess saying they wouldn't miss him.

I expected an educator to want to make the school more inviting, not less. But this principal (and Chilton's principal) both seem like they don't care if a kid gets left behind.

There is a severe lack of resources for struggling kids in Gilmore Girls' high school education lol

What do you guys think?

Which scene do you think shows Alexis's best acting?

I was watching a therapists breakdown on Rory's and Jess's argument at this party, and he said something interesting: that the scene in the bedroom showed the best acting from the two of them. He said that they displayed the realistic emotions he would expect from people of their age with their backgrounds and their experiences.

So it got me wondering which scenes you all would consider Alexis's best. Do you think it's the bedroom scene, too?

Hot Take: Rory didn't break up with Dean because she didn't want to disappoint Lorelai

They would have broken up a lot sooner if Lorelai didn't make her disapproval of Jess so obvious.

Writing a lot = AI now

Graduated from college with an English degree and a hobby to overanalyze media just to be accused of using AI the one time I decide to get drunk and nerdy and create a "the curtains are blue because of sadness" post.

Symbolism in Gilmore Girls: The Pool House, The Dance Marathon, The Trip to New York, The Climb (the curtains are blue type of post)

I really love the symbolism throughout Gilmore Girls, so I'm posting a few of my favorites in hopes that you guys will share your favorites, too.

1. Redesigning the Pool House (and Rory)

When Rory first moves in, she takes a few of her things with her - but that doesn't last long. Emily is quick to come in and strip her wardrobe + completely redesign the poolhouse, leaving it empty and lacking purpose.

But that emptiness doesn't last long. Emily is quick to redesign it (and to give Rory a job).

Suddenly, the poolhouse is redesigned with a more acceptable look. Suddenly, the speaker has Emily's voice echoing so loudly through the house that Rory finds it impossible to ignore. Suddenly, Rory is doing everything her grandparents wanted her to do (oh yes, and the poolhouse redesign is finalized).

But then comes the discovery that Logan has been entering the poolhouse at night. And Emily vows to keep redesigning the poolhouse over and over again until everything is right again.

Only, it's too late. Rory left the poolhouse, and escaped her fate of being constantly redesigned.

2. Keep Dancing Until You Can't Anymore (Then Break Up)

This one I particularly love. Because it isn't just "Rory stayed in the relationship until she couldn't anymore." This scene doesn't end with Rory collapsing from exhaustion, and it isn't just her dancing with Dean.

In fact, for most of the event, Rory is dancing with Lorelai.

Lorelai, who pressured Rory into doing the dance with her - much like she pushed Rory to stay in her relationship with Dean. And Rory, being a people pleaser, agreed because this was someone she loved and it was what she believed to be the right thing to do.

So Rory danced. She danced and danced and danced for her mother and was growing increasingly exhausted the longer she did.

Then Rory was given to Dean, and for a moment everything was fine because Rory was still dancing. But, again, Rory did not want to dance. She wanted to sit on the bleachers. So she kept looking at them, at Jess, wanting to be there instead.

It was noticeable. Jess was disrupting the event, the dance. Dean couldn't take it anymore. So he quit. Dean was the first of the two to stop dancing.

Then Lorelai returns to see that the dance has ended, that she lost, but cares more about comforting Rory than losing.

Experiencing Something New + Climbing Up The Latter

These two have less to them, but I still really like them because they set up the tone of Rory's relationships with these boys.

With Jess, Rory traveled out of town against her mother's wishes and out of her mother's influence to see him. She had a great time. The experience even changed her a little bit (she now has a withering glare). But she was still hoping to please Lorelai even as she tried to do her own thing - which is why she bought that vinyl record. Clearly, this didn't work out for her: Rory returned to Stars Hollow a wreck, without Jess, and facing a disappointed mother.

With Logan, Rory goes to an elitist event where she has to speak a certain way and dress a certain way. Then, at the end of the event, she chooses to climb the (social) ladder, to grab Logan's hand at the top, and finally to jump... and fall. Rory reached her pique with Logan, but she also had a pretty severe downfall with him, too. Luckily, they both managed to land on their feet.

Which of them would make the best couple? (Dean×Jess) (Jess×Logan) (Logan×Dean)

Let's take Rory out of the equation.

In my last post, a few people had theories that Dean and Jess were secretly in love. So it got me thinking!

u/cleverlynamedgrl — 26 days ago

Give me your most unfounded, insane Gilmore theory (you don't need proof, just vibes)

Here's mine:

Jess doesn't know how to read

He only faked knowing how to read after he saw how much Rory liked books. Then he got someone to scribble their thoughts into Rory's book margins.

Think about it - have we ever seen him read out loud? No! Have we ever seen what he writes down when he's scribbling in class? No! (He's probably doodling).

This is probably why he didn't study with Rory. And why he didn't know that he was failing senior year even though they sent him warnings. And why he got into that car crash (he couldn't read the speed limit). And why he thinks people read with one hand in their pocket (see photo evidence above).

So that's my theory. :)

I was always 100% convinced that Jess was walking around with Rory on his t-shirt

And I was sure that it was Rory when she visited Harvard.

Why was I so convinced of this? Not sure. But I was very confused why Rory didn't mention it and did not, for one second, consider that maybe it wasn't her.

So yeah. Turns out Jess wasn't walking around with t shirts of his ex from when she was in high school. Go figure.

Who checked out first?

We see in the show that Rory is pretty disappointed and unimpressed with this relationship. Especially when Dean was showing her the expired food he'd laid out for her to eat. But I was watching their third break up scene when it struck me how easy it was for Dean to call it off. No tears, no yelling - just a quiet question and then he was gone. So it made me wonder what we would have seen if the show was from Dean's perspective.

Do you think we would have seen that he checked out even sooner than Rory did?

Lorelai's interactions with Logan always give me second-hand embarrassment

Lorelai has been in so many awkward situations. And yes, she gets uncomfortable sometimes. But one thing about Lorelai is she always manages to still leave the situation cool and confident in who she is.

Except whenever she has a scene with Logan.

Every time they meet, I feel so much second-hand embarrassment. Her witty remarks never land for any of the characters and she comes off as so insecure around him that I can't help but feel that she leaves the situations looking kind of lame. It doesn't help that Logan is always looking at her with such a calm smile; it makes her look gittery and him look unimpressed.

Like this scene where she's telling them all about Stars Hollow's events as if Rory has never lived there before.

Idk her interactions with Logan always make me feel like she looks so insecure and uncool.

Dare I say Jackson's hottest moment?

I never liked Jackson, but I like Christopher even less. Watching him calmly let Christopher squirm and be uncomfortable with the knowledge that people are watching how he treats Lorelai was very satisfying.

Rory had every reason to be jealous of Bobby

The way Logan and the guys were acting at that table was so over the top ridiculous. Practically making those cartoon wolf noises as they talked about Bobby standing up.

I would have thought that this was just an error in Logan's actions, but then Bobby turned to Rory to say that Logan was a huge part of her having fun. Not "the guys" or "her friends:" Logan.

This dinner was so weird.

I'm watching it now and always assumed that Rory was just jealous because Bobby is a beautiful, successful, witty woman and she felt threatened by that. But Bobby and Logan were being... weird.

Jess is That Girl but have you ever wanted Logan and Dean to interact?

I was thinking about how Jess got to interact with both Dean and Logan - and how both guys didn't want to leave Rory alone with him.

And realized that Dean and Logan never got to interact.

Apart from Logan seeing Dean break up with Rory, we never see them have a conversation or even make eye contact. And now I kind of wish we had. Because although Rory was wildly in love with Jess, Dean was her first boyfriend and her first. Plus, Dean still had complicated feelings for Rory when she was with Logan as seen when he started yelling at Luke about dating a Gilmore girl. Also, Rory was kind of developing feelings for Logan while she was still with Dean.

So the drama is there.

We just never got to see anything happen with it.

Maybe it's because Rory was kind of over Dean by the time the relationship ended, whereas she never really got closure from the Jess situation.

Do you think the Stars Hollow residents were already quirky when they moved in or is there something in the air?

Like were they normal when they moved in or does Stars Hollow attract a specific type of person?
