First Attempt

At first I was extremely proud of this, but now I’ve been looking at it too long and I feel like I messed up. The orientation I believe I got correct but I’m concerned that I used entirely too much moss and I may have packed it too tight around the center. Did I screw it up? If so, is there any way to fix it without completely tearing it down and trying again? Constructive criticism needed but please but don’t chastise 😅

Home Depot Find

Found this Monstera sitting on a cart with no price tag on it. Took it to checkout and the woman price matched a smaller Monstera nearby at $19. I’m new to the house plant world but I feel like I made it out with a solid price. Excited to have him either way!

Before and After

Bought my first house a month ago and the backyard was completely bare. Made it my first priority to improve it since my wife and I plan to spend most of our time back there when home. We installed the rest of the fence line to close us off and then started the landscaping which was finished today.

All that is left is to lay gravel in front of the crawlspace door, gravel around the shed, put a lean on overhang over the four wheeler, put a roof over the patio, and install a fire pit in the middle of the yard with a path from the patio.

Couldn’t be more excited with the progress!

We planted 15 emerald green arborvitae in my backyard this past Sunday. The goal on the sides was to break up the view of the yard from the neighbors elevated decks (without being a dense wall of trees), and then to add additional trees along the back to balance it out. Originally I wanted to put them 2-2.5 feet off the fence, but after speaking with the guys helping me plant them, we decided on 3.5 feet. At first it felt like a great idea so that the trees would get more airflow and it would give me easier access to the fence, but now it looks awkward with the large gap behind it. I know the trees aren’t fully grown, but even at full grown there will still be a noticeable gap.

Did we mess up? If we did, how can I fix this? Maybe some plants to stagger between them to fill the gaps? The trees on the sides are around 3.5-4’ apart from one another and the ones along the back are 7.5’ apart.
