meghalaya in india taught me a lesson..

Back from Meghalaya: Shillong local → Cherrapunji → Jowai side. I went expecting beautiful views, waterfalls, and memories and Meghalaya delivered. But I think I’m taking back more than just photos.

What stood out was the discipline even in traffic, there was more patience, fewer unnecessary horns, and a sense of order in small things. But more than that, it was the people. There was a language barrier at times, yet everyone genuinely tried their best to understand and help. Whether it was directions or small interactions, people made an effort, and that stayed with me.

Somewhere during the journey, I unknowingly picked up a small habit too saying “thank you” more often. Funny how some places leave behind lessons, not just memories.

Perhaps beauty was never meant for perfect places.

Maybe that’s why flowers bloom over rusted gates,

why the sky looks softer above broken walls,

and why the most beautiful things often grow where nobody expects them to.

Somehow, the chaos makes it feel more real....

Need help finalizing a Meghalaya family trip itinerary (12–16 May). Traveling with parents, so looking for scenic places with easy access / short walks only, no long treks.

Current structured plan:

12 May – Arrival day

Land at Shillong airport afternoon. On the way cover:

- Umiam Lake

- Reach Shillong hotel

- Evening Police Bazar / Ward’s Lake / local food

13 May – Shillong to Sohra (Cherrapunji)

Morning:

- Laitlum Canyon (early morning)

Then head to Sohra and cover main spots:

- Mawkdok Dympep Viewpoint

- Nohkalikai Falls

- Mawsmai Cave

- Seven Sisters Falls

- Dainthlen Falls

14 May – Jaintia side / Scenic Day

Thinking:

- Krang Suri Falls (top choice)

- Plus nearby places if possible

Would love suggestions on best route for this day.

15 May – Dawki Side (idk if its worth being there at that time)

Thinking:

- Dawki / Umngot River boating

- Shnongpdeng

- Mawlynnong village

- Riwai Living Root Bridge (if easy walk)

Any better alternatives for this day?

16 May – Return flight

If time in morning, can cover:

- Shillong Peak

- Elephant Falls

- Last-minute shopping

My dads frnd gave a contact of cab driver asking 3k per day excluding parking and permits.

So maybe ill get to it

Need stay recommendations WOULD LOVE GOOD WELCOMING YET AFFORDABLE HOMESTAYS

Also

need some good maybe hidden gems we can cover

will appreciate ur inputs

And yeah we arent looking for any guides.
