When will first year classes start??

I got admission on 4august at pict IT branch .till now i haven't received any message about college opening . I am currently in my hometown(ngp) don't know when they will share a message to come to college.

Can someone tell me the most important things to carry with me?

1.Many seniors are saying start dsa from first day of first year.

2.Many are saying attempt hackathons from day 1

How's the second point even possible??? If I don't know python then how will I attempt hackathons ?

Btw i took IT branch and i aim for good packages.
