Should I just buy a 2026 or wait for 2027 version?

And how likely do you think we'll find one at MSRP price without extra dealership fees?

As a DBA I don't do much performance tuning

I understand that performance tuning is part of the DBA function, but in my environment most tuning is handled proactively in dev/test by the development team. My role is more production-focused: monitoring, validating changes, supporting deployments, and responding if performance issues appear in production.

So I don't get to spend all day tuning queries, creating indexes and things like that. I don't get to investigate why a query takes 3 minutes long and then come up with a solution to only take 3 seconds to run instead. Some would say that having these kind of resources and processes is a very good thing. Having to fix missing indexes and rewriting inefficient queries is often compensating for weak development practices and that's not a good thing.

My fear is because I don't do much performance tuning, I may lack the skillset to do so. I've been meaning to have this conversation with my colleague and boss to see what they think. Should I create my own test environment and cause these issues and bottlenecks so can keep this skillset? What are your thoughts?

BIG RANT AHEAD

I was going to quit because of the unfair workload they were giving me. When I first started the job they said my closing duties as a closing driver was to

  1. Break down the boxes and throw them out along with the trash
  2. Do all the dishes
  3. Sweep and map the back

That's it. But then very recently we had 3 inside guys quit and another driver quit so we were low on workers so one of the managers asked me to also help close the front too. I had to do this for a couple of days. I was not cool with this at all.

What made it worst is they keep making me work with another driver who is lazy as shit. He drives like a slug. He doesn't know how to hustle. Me and another driver would get done with 2-3 deliveries and he'd still be on his 1st one. Every time he came back from a delivery he would sit in his car for a couple of minutes before returning into the store. The dude will do everything he can to avoid doing any inside work. He always looks half dead and blames it on his insomnia but I think it's because he's always high. He loves to socialize and talk about his week about his family and while doing so he will do no work. But in the end the problem isn't him, the problem is management condoning his work ethics. I think they let him get away with this is because he shares his weed with coworkers and managers(surprise surprise that nearly everyone working here is a pothead) and we desperately need workers that they can't afford to let him go even if he is a shit worker. Sometimes he will just sit in his car and wait for a delivery to be ready for him and he expects us to come get him. One day his car broke down at work and he called his friend to come help fix it. They were out there for about 2 hours fixing his car all while he was on the clock and not doing anything else to help the store. Store manager was really nonchalant about it while I was at awe. Another time he parked his car in the back and stayed there for an usual long time. Finally he came back in and said he's leaking brake fluid and he became super depressed about it. I told the in-store manager that he's gonna use this situation to not do anything else for the rest of the day while on the clock and his workload will fall on us, like last time. This manager that was in that day told him he can clock out and get his situation fixed or he can stay and work inside jobs and not make anymore deliveries. He looked visibly upset the manager didn't take pity on him and let him mope around the store doing nothing while getting paid.

Called the GM on Friday and told him I'm quitting. Told him I don't need this job. It was only supposed to help supplement filling up my IRA faster. I work harder here than I do my main day job and my day job pays me 5x more than this pizza shit. He asked me why I'm quitting and I told him exactly what I said in this topic; unfair share of the workload and letting the shitty coworking do jack shit. He told me if I stay I will strictly only close the back and I will not have to do any front jobs. He will also talk to the lazy worker and make the place an equal share of workload. He will also give me an extra 50 dollars in my paycheck too if I stay.

Yesterday night things already improved. I did my normal closing back duties and the lazy driver got put in a situation where it'll improve his work ethics. So we close at 11:30PM and the lazy driver likes to leave at 11PM on the dot, avoiding any closing duties. At 9PM, the lazy driver will stop taking deliveries and he will start doing closing jobs. He will do as much dishes as he can. sweep the entire building and basically make it as easy as it can for us closing workers to close when he leaves at 11PM. He wasn't happy about this as he's now gonna be missing out on deliveries for 2 hours. Oh well. Thanks for reading my rant
