Is my plan feasible?

Planning a trip to Europe next month. Originally, I wanted to book business from Boston but the prices are too steep.

Thus, I was thinking -> 1) book main 2) get main extra at check-in 3) get 3 hrs early before flight and see if we can pay for a mint upgrade Total costs would be around $1,000-1,500 if the data points I found are true ($500 for main, $500 to $1,000 for upgrade). The flight I want has 7 seats open right now that are around 6k each

Is there a flaw in my plan?

Save a guest honor award or pay for one night?

Booked a few rooms - tempted to use GoH to save on parking + breakfast. But it feels like a waste since we are only staying one night + reservation was booked with points. First time as a globalist and not sure if the savings (maybe $100?) are worth using the certificate now. Has anyone used it and regretted it?

Same-day confirmed change with Choice?

What is the deal nowadays with same-day change? I thought it was included with Choice, but only same-day standby was an option on my flight a few weeks ago. Is it limited to certain flights? Only for A-listers? I would like to leave slightly later on a flight next week - but not sure if this is a lost cause and I should just take the original flight to avoid headaches (830 am departure vs 7 am departure).
