2 Months with our C-HR+ (EV) - Review
So this is just a random summary of our past two months with our new C-HR+ (EV). Some things we've absolutely loved about the car and some things we're not super happy about. I hope this could help someone who's thinking about purchasing one.
Firstly, we live in Copenhagen, DK and use this as a weekend car. We have the C-HR+ Active model (aka the C-HR SE in the USA).
My fear when purchasing a full EV was probably the same as most people. Range anxiety, long wait times for charging, worrying about battery health. These things all turned out to be non issues and switching to an EV was so easy I was truly surprised. The difference between this and having an ICE was so minimal you hardly notice.
We took it for our first long distance trip from Copenhagen to Berlin recently and the whole experience was lovely. Because it's an EV the ride was quiet and super comfortable. The adaptive cruise control with lane keep assist was intuitive and gentle, if a car slowed down in front of us or someone pulled into our lane the car would gently slow down instead of hitting the breaks hard like past cars i've been in. We did one super charge, by the time we walked over to the gas station store, bought a bottle of water and drank a red bull I was notified that the car was charged and we could get going. It was so much faster than I expected. Also, the charge doesn't slow down 80-100% so if you want to charge fully you can.
On regular drives in the city I love the regenerative breaking, it doesn't have full one pedal drive but I don't mind. The ride is very smooth and I like the gauge cluster over the steering wheel, it is not a problem to see as most car reviewers have noted. I don't quite understand how someone couldn't see it. I like the black on black interior, it feels cozy and I don't worry about accidently scuffing the ceiling lining. The combination fabric and "leather" seating is nice and easy to keep clean. The car itself looks sleek and futuristic without being too loud about it. It's something I can see staying stylish for a long time. I also really like how my partner and I can have our own profiles in the car which is assigned to our keys allowing us to keep the settings we choose when each of us takes the car.
Now some things I don't quite like
The trunk cover (or parcel shelf) is an absolute joke, it comes off its mounts so easily, if you stack a piece of luggage slightly too high it'll come loose and falls off. This makes putting things in the trunk a bit of a headache.
The double floor in the trunk is also useless, it has no benefits and makes placing things below it cumbersome. Also, the trunk has small pockets on each side but once you remove the floor panel anything in these pockets will fall out. They could have placed some kind of mesh or solid panel to keep things in their place.
No glove box is annoying, I don't have anywhere to easily place papers and the like.
The arm rest storage has a false bottom in it where you can place extra items but in order to access it you need to take out everything on top of it first which is frustrating.
The lane keep assist steering sensor could be more sensitive, it hardly notices you're holding on to the steering wheel already so the alarm goes off often.
These are all really small issues and overall we are super happy with the car. We've gotten a lot of compliments and are excited every time we can take the car out for a small trip. I am really looking forward to more road trips in the future and really seeing how far we can take it.
Anyways, that's my take... what's yours? :D
C-HR+ 12V battery died
Hi,
My partner and I went on holiday and left our car parked for over a week. When we returned we tried to start the car and it wouldn’t start due to the small 12V battery being dead. We didn’t leave on any lights or anything running but after speaking to Toyota they informed us that this is due to all the background tech running to keep it connected to your phone and other diagnostic tasks.
We are wondering if there is any solution to this as we dont use it every day and are worried we might run into this dilemma again. Is there a “holiday” mode you can turn on or a device to keep it from draining the small battery that would be approved under the Toyota warranty?
I’ve written our dealership and am waiting to hear back but in the meantime I wanted to hear from y’all if you had a similar issue and a fix?
Thanks!!
Selling 2 tickets - 260€ each
Please comment and I can provide the Tixel link
Would prefer someone buy both at once.
C-HR+ (BEV) - bing bong sounds
My partner and I picked up our C-HR+ (BEV in Europe) and as we’re driving around we still get the bing bong noises as the road speed signs change. I tried turning off the notification sound via the small icon on the top right of the infotainment screen but it still makes sounds.
When we turn it off via the notifications menu (located next to the AC controls) then it stops but we also can’t see the speed limits on the odometer anymore which we kinda like having.
Is this an all or nothing situation? Do we either have it turned on and get some bongs or turned off and see nothing?
Also… does the navigation make chimes whenever a new turn is coming up? And if so, how do you turn this off??
Sorry if this is confusing. I can provide more details if needed.
Otherwise, this is our first Toyota and we’re really excited to be a part of the community 🎉
Lease or Buy
My partner and I are a bit torn whether to lease or buy the EV3 (upgrade long range). We are not daily commuters and expect to use the car mostly for short weekend drives and road trips (live in Northern Europe).
My reasoning for leasing is that the technology and batteries for EVs are constantly changing and if we lease we can upgrade to the new tech every 4 years. But if we buy we can just use the car as long as we wish and even rent it out on GoMore (not allowed when leasing).
My biggest concern is if we decide to sell the car in maybe 5-8 years, will it be really hard to sell when battery technology has advanced so much and this car is basically obsolete? Or do you think people will still be willing to buy the old battery tech?
Did any of you have this train of thought and what direction did you decide to go in?
Any input is appreciated. Thank you!
