My solution to the tedious setup of Brass: Birmingham

I recently caved and got the #1 on BGG and it does live up to the hype! The problem is the setup. Not that it’s long, but sorting all the industry tiles every play is not fun at all.

I have a 3D printer and after a lot of research, I decided to design my own insert from scratch. The main thing is solving the setup by holding all industry tiles inside trays that themselves fit inside organizers in the box. Every organizer has a removable tray for the link tiles.

For the text, i used the font used for the title, and on the back of all 4 organizers, I placed a little surprise that you won’t see that often, but is still a cool party trick.

Claude for session prep

Hi! I am running Curse of Strahd as a new DM for a party of 3 in romanian.

Prep for a session includes some kind of roadmap that i can follow to an extent (of course while not railroading; the players still have free choice on what to do and where to go, i just like to have 1-2 encounters ready and whatever i think they’ll do next), putting maps and tokens into owlbear rodeo, setting up creatures into improved initiative and handouts wherever i can.

You can probbably guess that between translating things in the book, adding stuff for flavor and all the other things, prep takes a lot of time.

Recently, i got a month of claude pro for some projets i had in mind, but it gave me the idea to integrate it into my prep workflow. I gave claude cowork access to my obsidian vault and uploaded all relevand files and started to experiment.

Here are the things i found most useful for my setup:
- creating .json files for improved initiative with all the statblocks and comments for the fight (ex. at half HP, runs away)
- requesting a list of maps and tokens i need to prep
- organising my ideas inside obsidian.

Now, this last one is controversial. I get that the ideas and creative part is the essence of DND and i totally agree. So i never generate new stuff (at most some ideas for flavorful encounters or integrations; example later). I just dump my ideas into Session 6 for example and prompt claude to organise them using headers, pull statblocks and create hyperlinks.

Curse of Strahd begining (first 5-6 sessions) SPOILERS BELOW!!!

I did try to generate some story elements but they felt empty, so i updated them to better fit what i want. One of my players got bit by a werewolf in the first session and while i gave the players some oportunities to figure out that it’s bad, i never said anything directly. PCs will go to tser pool shortly to figure out what the deal is with Madame Eva, and i figured this is the best moment for a reveal.

Claude gave me this idea: Have an encounter with WWs from which the players need to flee before they get to the camp. There, have 2 vistani test everyone with a silver blade and when the infected is tested, have him roll a con saving throw to stop him from screaming.

I found this very dull but liked the concept a lot so i changed it to this: same thing but without the roll. The player will feel it sting but not think much of it. Then, Eva, before reading, will say something ominous like “the whole land is against you”, look at the player, loot at the moon and then look away, preparing for the card reading.

What do you think of these use cases?

TL;DR: I tried Claude to speed up my campaign prep and it worked really nice. I tried to generate some story elements but they felt dull, so i updated them to my liking.

Oculus quest 2 connection problem solved

I have an Oculus branded quest 2 that for some reason i could not connect to the meta horizon app anymore. I factory reset the headset, but the app still showed it there, just inactive. Meanwhile, the headset required me to set it up with the app, which did not work since it figured as connected.

I tried to contact meta. Their customer support required me to choose a connected device that i need help with, but my headset did not show up. I tried to enter the serial number and got hit with a warning that meta does not offer support for my device.

After that, i went to AI to try to figure out what i can do. Did not get the answer i needed so i just tried stuff out and finally got it to work.

Here is the fix:
I made a new account (2) that i used to set up my headset. I used that account to give myself access to the headset using my main account (1). This fixed my problem but i didn’t want (2) to be the owner to the headset so i removed the device from (2) and now it works just fine.

TLDR - Meta no longer offers support for oculus quest 2 so i fixed the problem i had: headser factory reset but still showing up as connected but offline in the meta horizon app.

I just got the new Americas expantion and saw that the scoring pad lacks the nectar scoring row. So naturally, i got mad and made my own web app that can score every category.

Of course i didn’t stop there and hosted it on github pages so i can access it from my phone. I realised that github only allows static pages so i linked the database to firebase that is free for up to 50k reads / day.

Then i made the whole thing pretty and added sorting buttons for all categories and displayed some stats for each player (win rate, high score, etc.)

While i can’t make the link public since that will give anyone access to my database, what i can do is share the code. So if anyone is interested, comment or pm me and i can send the code!
