Getting rid of unwanted roommates

My spouse and I just moved into an apartment a few days ago and we have somewhat of a roach problem. I think they're German roaches but I'm not entirely sure. The largest ones I've seen are only as long as a dime. We see about 5-10 crawling across the floor/walls a day and I would really like to get a handle on it.

The last tenant in this apartment was somewhat of a disaster, from what we've gathered. He made a badly done DIY fire pit in the small yard and cooked food out there which caused an ant infestation that I'm also trying to take care of- any tips are welcome. I used a pet safe ant killer this morning and am waiting to see what it does for the problem- He got evicted about a month ago and was here for quite a while before that. Based on all the little problems we've found (leaky faucets, bugs, dented walls/doors, loose hinges) it's pretty clear that he didn't take super great care of the place. It seems like he was a bit of a mess and we're trying to straighten everything out as we move in. Twice monthly pest control is included in our rent already and they bug bombed the place the day before we moved in.

I put sticky traps all over the house. We have two dogs so we don't want to do anything with poison in case one of them eats a roach that has eaten poison and gets sick. We have diatomaceous earth on the way and when I finally get all these boxes unpacked, I'm going to mop the place with peppermint oil and sprinkle cinnamon along the baseboards and corners. We're fairly clean and don't keep any open food out. We have a trashcan with a lid and I put all the dog food in air tight containers so the roaches don't get into it.

I know it's only been a few days and the problem will likely get better as we clean and truly move in, but I want to get a head start on it as I HATE bugs.

Mattress recommendations?

My spouse and I are looking to buy a new mattress and we're hoping for some recommendations from people who need a lot of support.

I have a few different disabilities that cause me to be mostly bed bound. I spend about 80-100% of the day in bed on average and have pretty severe back and hip pain. Because of this, I've literally worn a divot into our current mattress that we've had for the past year.

We are looking for affordable options (500$ MAX) and something in the medium to soft firmness range. We're probably going to get some kind of supportive mattress topper as well, and will be putting a bed-sore air pressure mat on my side as I'm prone to them during my more heavily bed bound times.

Any ideas?

First time hand poking

Any advice is very wanted!!!

My friend is Inuk and wants to get kakiniit tattoos (traditional Inuk style). Traditionally, they are done by a member of the community/family and because of this, he wants a friend to do it instead of going to a professional artist.

I have just under 20 professionally done machine tattoos and have been doing research on hand poke tattooing as well as the sanitization/health and safety processes.

I want to know the Do's and Don't's as well as any tips that y'all can think of. I will be practicing both on second skin beforehand as well as doing a small one on myself and one on him to make sure I know how to do it correctly on real skin. This is a very meaningful tattoo for him and I want to make sure that I do a good job and do his culture justice.

I'm attaching an example picture of kakiniit and my current list of supplies. I already have 90% rubbing alcohol that we will be using for sanitization. I also have nitril gloves.

Anything else y'all can think of?

Mod-severe and declining- vent post

I'm having a tough time recently as I've been declining pretty sharply. I was nearing severe and about 95% bed bound for 6 months last year and finally started doing better this spring. I got a few months of being truly moderate again but after a handful of seizure clusters in the past month, I've deteriorated again.

I'm even worse than I was before. I'm in bed 23 hours out of the day minimum and the other day I could barely drag myself to the bathroom and had to lay collapsed on the cold floor dry heaving for a while until I could get the strength to get back to bed. I'm having trouble caring for my pets, much less myself. My spouse is doing everything they can to help but they work full time and are chronically ill themself so it's hard to balance.

My roommate/mother in law expects me to keep up with house chores and take care of her dogs because I don't have a job (she doesn't either, mind you) but I'm so sick I can barely leave bed. I don't know what to do about her anymore because it's either stay in bed and feel slightly less awful while getting berated, or doing the chores and throwing up/passing out/seizing on the floor in the main area while trying to clean. She has literally walked over my passed out body on the floor to go berate my spouse about how I didn't clean the house to her liking.

I'm just so tired, man. All day, I lay in bed doom scrolling and find myself thinking "I'm bored of this. I don't want to do this anymore. What can I even do to pass the time that won't flair my symptoms?" And come up with nothing... So I keep scrolling and maybe pop an edible or two to make the time go faster. It just feels like my entire life consists of Clean, Get Sick, Lay in Bed, Get Sick, Clean, Get Sick, etc.

While y'all are here reading my sob story- any tips on things to do while bed bound and very light sensitive?

New chair day!

I have needed a power chair for over a year now and I was able to finally get one today.

I am incredibly grateful as this chair has given me the ability to be up and around the house more and independently leave home to go on short rides around the neighborhood (with some help to get it on and off the porch while I raise money for a ramp).

I haven't been on a walk in over two years, but today, I got to have that again.

New wheelchair coming soon!

AAAAAHHHHH I am finally getting a power chair!!!

For about a year I have been house bound and mostly bed bound. My manual chair was broken when delivered to me and I've tried to get new parts for over a year and haven't heard anything back. It's also large and bulky so it cannot fit through the small doorways in our home- they're weirdly tall and skinny.

This chair will be able to fit into my bedroom and the bathroom which are the main places I spend my time. It will also allow me to leave the house independently (once I get ramps put in. Hopefully my GoFundMe picks up soon) which is something I haven't been able to do in about a year.

I'm counting down the days waiting for delivery and I'm so so so excited! I can't wait to take my dog on a walk for the first time in almost two years. It used to be our favorite thing to do and we have both missed it.

I'll post some pictures when I finish decorating it but for now here's the website photo

New Wheelchair Coming Soon!

I am so incredibly excited to order my first power chair, the OAS Cruise Pro!

I have a few different disabilities which cause mobility issues and fatigue. I was seizure free for about three months but unfortunately had a cluster a few nights ago and am still having trouble walking. It's much better than it was as I am now able to stand without my legs shaking violently, but it's still not perfect. I've had a manual wheelchair for a while but I can't use it in much of my home as the doorways and halls are too small to fit my bulky chair. It has worked out ok as I can still walk short distances on my good days, but this lasting flair has really shown both my spouse and I that a new wheelchair is an essential at this point.

This power chair is going to open up a whole new world for me! I haven't been able to leave the house unassisted in about a year now and this chair is going to make that possible. I'll finally be able to take my dog on walks again! It was our favorite thing to do together and I haven't been able to in nearly 2 years.

If anyone has/has had the OAS Cruise Pro, can you let me know anything that you liked/didn't like about the chair? Just want to make sure I'm covering all my bases here as this is a pretty important investment.

Thank you!

Help me pick a power chair!

I've been looking for a new chair as my manual one no longer suits my worsening condition and I decided to go for a light weight power chair.

My needs for my ideal chair are:

- folding and light weight

- adjustable headrest

- high back rest

- reclinable

- at least 18 inch wide seat

I have been looking at different options and am interested in the Culver Mobility Panther as it not only reclines, but also has an extending leg rest so that I could lay flat for some relief from my orthostatic intolerance.

Does anyone know anything about this chair? If it's not so great, do you know of any that are similar in terms of my needs?

EDIT: I am also looking at the Rubicon DX11, though it doesn't have the leg rest on it

Plank4ME

Some people I really respect within the ME community over on TikTok (yes, boo hiss, I know) have created the plank4ME challenge to spread awareness for this disorder.

Participants who do not have ME and can safely hold a plank are challenged to video themselves planking for as long as they can to replicate a fraction of what it feels like for those of us with ME to lay "resting" in bed. Those who have ME are encouraged to share their experiences. All are encouraged to post with the #plank4ME to spread awareness.

All donated proceeds go to the Open Medicine Foundation in search of a cure for MECFS.

Make sure to pass this info around to friends, family, and followers. We can make a change together!
